The US now uses F-16CJ for Wild Weasel missions. SEAD/DEAD. The tactic which Russia failed so miserably at during their invasion and still haven't learned 800 days later.

You should study history and how the U.S. exit came about.
It's risky but very effective. It's true that it was developed during the Vietnam War but that makes it sound like an antiquated approach to dealing with surface to air threats but in reality the US has been consistently improving and refining their techniques ever since then. The US military still uses Wild Weasel missions to hunt down enemy radars and surface to air missiles when conducting SEAD missions.
Anyone else excited that the JDAM is gonna go full HARM soon.

Weird report… Wild Weasel, now SEAD, first introduced many years ago is by no means an “old” tactic. It has evolved considerably over that time.
As have defences against it. Radar can be located far from launcher, and operator can be almost anywhere. Multiple radars for one launch site turning on and off etc. etc. etc..
our best and brightest minds are working around the clock to find new ways of killing or not being killed.
I worked on F-4G Weasels in the mid 80s in Spangdahlem, W. Germany.

I find the parallel between using HARM missiles and the Vietnam war quite a stretch.
Why? It's broadly the same cat vs.mouse game (attacking air force vs. enemy air defence and vice versa) as it was performed for the first time almost 60 years ago by the U.S. Navy and Air Force in the Vietnam War. And like any other aspect of warfare, it has evolved over all the years in both tactics and technologies.

HARMs are a mystery to the casual observer. Presumably if the radar is turned off, they head in via inertial guidance to the last known location. Whether they detect any structures that look like air defence equipment with their radar on the seeker, who knows ? Can they be programmed just to hit the right spot via GPS ?
Seems like a risky tactic in the drone age which can scout the area in any case.
Yea harms remember where the radar signal originated from which is nice.

Ukraine must be getting ready to run wild weasel missions with F-16s, otherwise, it wouldn't make sense to risk their limited remaining Soviet airframes on high risk, high reward wild weasel missions.

@@sauron73 using and using properly are different things the range of those missiles is nearly 100km the radar on those migs is 40-50 years old it does not span more than 40 km and the data link is digital a very complex modulation scheme is applied how are those old junks going to control such missiles ...... ukraine is really at the bottom of the pit it does not have weapons to fight this war in any shape or form either NATO steps up and gives modern fighter jets and large missiles or they will lose
400k "lost captured or wounded", that is completely wrong, it's almost 500k JUST LOST, and it's about 1 million captured or wounded, all together about 1,5 million, probably more, closer to 2 mill.

Ukrainian sources, I mean the official Ukrainian Government, talk about 450.000 Russian casualties. Casualties means dead, wounded, missing in action, prisoners and deserters. It's not as you see it. Yet, it is in any case a huge casualties figure. I don't think Putin can afford, politically, to double that.

The Soviet Union, with a larger population, withdrew from Afghanistan after 80.000 casualties. The US withdrew from Vietnam after 200.000 casualties. Waging wars abroad is very different from defending your Country. Ukraine is fighting for freedom and independence, and will not "run out of men", Russia is fighting for the will of one man, and will lose the will to fight much sooner than Ukraine. The "internal enemy" will decide this war in favour of Ukraine.
