About the Bliss Totem + Mystic Dreamscape Mill deck from 2:02, you were wondering why they chose Crimson Hammer instead of PhDF; it turns out that in a deck with so few blockers and creatures in general it is crucial to remove weenies as soon as possible. When facing rush, destroying an enemy attacker at 2 mana rather than a turn later can actually save you from defeat.
These videos are awesome man. I always wondered how the OCG meta progressed vs our TCG meta in America. An odd thing I realized is that even though Corile was played in OCG, it wasn’t always a 4 of. In the TCG, Corile had such a strong vicegrip on the game. It often made cards that would have been otherwise great (like Alcadeus, Glenva vuele, or any evo) decent at best or even bad, since it essentially bounces a guy and prevents your opponent from drawing for their turn. It’s even worse if they Coriled your evolution creature. I guess astral reef, aquan, and cyber brain heavily watered down Coriles impact on the game, and those cards getting severe nerfs in TCG lead to Coriles prominence for the entire life of the TCG. Keep up the vids! Also, when are more DM plays videos coming?
Thanks so much! I've really been waiting for this part because I am working on a Bliss Totem/Mystic Dreamscape-based deckout, and I heard that this strategy was used in Japan. Turns out what I've built is a lot like a mix between what you show in the video and Phal Control.
Even thought I've seen and written about this stuff before, its still nice to see in video form. And useful to show how the decks were built at the time.
So since I missed the first video, I am a bit confused about how this can be 4 parts.......as the OCG is a lot more expansive? Though I would be curious to see a full retrospective of the history of the OCG up to now.
