He was one of the premiere bass singers of all time, certainly in the top ten!

My parents loved listening to his voice, esp as he did yard work! my parents lived catty wonkas across Stillman and his voice carried like an X-ray beam of light! My mom, Eleise Barnsdale, said she loved his voice more than George B Shea!!

The first time I saw the Florida Boys in person was in August 1968 in Columbus, Ga.
I remember we got to Columbus early in the afternoon and we went by the auditorium to purchase tickets and the Florida Boys were doing a sound check and this was the song they were playing. They played it later on during the concert.
The Concert that night consisted of the Florida Boys, the Happy Goodmans, The Thrasher Brothers and the Lefevres a first for me seeing all those groups in person.

Billy Todd's bass was sweet, even at age 73. The stretch starting at 3:12 was tight. Tommy could hit the high ones, too.

Thank you for posting this video. It was wonderful to see the all the guys: Les, Glenn, Billy and Tommy again. Have heard them many times in concert years ago. The Florida Boys were one of my mother's favorites and mine also. I didn't appreciate Tommy's fiddling back then. He sounds good to me.

Loved Billy Todd when he traveled with the Dixie Echoes in the 90's as well.

I hate it that Billy Todd left the group and then passed away. I wish that both he and Tommy Atwood had stayed with the group. To me, that was the Florida Boys

Was this sort of music used mainly for entertainment, concerts, etc? Or, is this sort of music played during church services, too? I arrived here by accident. Binging on episodes of William F Buckley's 'Firing Line'.

Some churches will use songs like this (or at least they once did). Songs like this were common at gospel music concerts

This would definitely be used as a choir and/or congregational hymn during a regular Saturday/Sunday service, or a revival. This was back in the 40’s--1970’s. Mostly found in fundamentalist denominations. Rousing song!

@@marsmannix I see. Not the sort of religious music I'm accustomed to.
