  • Video from a Baltimore Sea Safari whale watching boat trip off Baltimore in West Cork, Ireland - watching Humpback whales bubble net feeding on sprats. Humpback whales have developed an unusual technique for feeding on shoals of fish, they drop deep in the water and swim around in a circle blowing bubbles. the circle of bubbles rise slowly to the surface, trapping fish in the center of the bubbles (like a curtain of bubbles), then they rise through the center of the ring with their huge mouths open scooping up all the fish contained within the ring. They usually settle on the surface of the water for a few seconds to force the water out through their baleen plates, and to swallow the fish, before often repeating the process. This is an adult and a sub adult working together.
Baltimore Sea Safari operate daily coastal sightseeing boat trips with whale, dolphin and wildlife watching from Baltimore in County Cork.
