As suspected the article was a typical clickbait piece designed to stir up the local gammons (check the comments, they have arrived) who can't drive over Hardknott on this specific day of the year to visit a cafe on the other side. No mention either of the benefits that the event brings to the local area. Hope the cyclists are ok and make a full recovery.
The Great North Air Ambulance Service posted the following on FaceBook today: “We'd like to say a huge well done to everyone who took part in the Fred Whitton Challenge on behalf of our charity on Sunday; we know it won't have been easy! If you were there, you may have spotted one of our helicopters. 👀 At 2.40 on Sunday, paramedic Lee, Dr Mark and pilot Mik responded to reports of a casualty near Hardknott Pass, Cumbria. The team arrived at the scene within 23 minutes and treated the patient for their injuries. Before returning to the helicopter, the team noticed another person who was in need of assistance; the team liaised with North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust and the local mountain rescue team to assess and treat the patient. Our team spent an hour and a half at the scene before being diverted to a road traffic collision near Maryport, where they later airlifted the casualty to hospital. During the bank holiday weekend, our teams were called out to a total of 12 incidents. We need your help to ensure casualties like these have access to our advanced care. Take part in May's Race to the Base challenge to raise vital funds for our service: www.greatnorthairambulance.co.uk/support-us/fundraising-events/race-to-the-base/ “
I'm assuming all of the riders, well rested, in this video went to the bottom and started the segment again? Hope all are ok, glad the injuries are only minor. 🙏
@@-M-2-K- yeah, there's no way I'm going back down from there. If it was my 1st climb of the day, never mind 97 miles in!! Kudos to all riders that did the FWC this weekend. 👏
Hello, I am a reporter for the Cumberland News in Cumbria, and I was wondering if we would be able to use this video in a piece I am writing up about the crash. If so, please could you let me know/reply to this comment?
Hi Oliver. Certainly, it would be good to hear about the recovery of the cyclists. Hopefully speedy! Please can you reference my channel video link in your article.

I saw the result of the crash on the Wrynose decent and it looked very bad. Haven't been able to get the image out of my mind since. Hope they are ok.

I think most riders were happy for the midway rest before tackling second part of Hardknott Pass.
