Ooohh, let’s see where the good stuff is this week! 😍 Do you ever put rye seed out yourself? Doesn’t it grow up quickly with a short lifespan? Does it taste sweet to them? Or maybe just fresh and different?
It is definitely sweet. We used to over seed with Rye every fall, but stopped doing it because the last 2 times we did it the grass came up sparsely and the cost and man hours are very high. I just supplement with more hay at this time of the year instead =]
Am i seeing this correctly... when they forage natureally they don’t seem to push each other out of the way and don’t seem to feel the need to take the same amount of space as when it at the times that people put out the food... is this because instincts say we are in natural way so space is closer and when people give them food they want more space because they know they don’t have to be as much sharing within herd? Hope question makes sense.. thanks
This questions makes a lot of sense and it is an excellent observation. I wonder if the reason they argue a little over the food we put out is when we put it out in front of them so they don't know how much food there is going to be to choose from. We put hay out in the pasture after lessons before we turn them out so they are pretty quiet and just slowly walk up to the hay flakes. When we put the flakes out one at a time when the horses are al ready in the pasture they seem to fuss more, unless there is a lot of grass in the pasture.
