In the TV version of this clip, the edited out all the swear words, so the clip made no sense. They told the nun she was "in trouble" and she just starts beating the crap out of them for apparently no reason. An example of where editing for television can just ruin a good story line. I always thought this was really funny. She hits them for saying a swear word, and they swear more when they are hit, so she hits again.
In the theatrical cut, the Penguin says “I’ll be sent to the missions” and Jake immediately responds. I think he got stuck in it, he couldn't get out like Elwood did, so when he tried to leave, he had to hop out the door, taking the desk with him, with the nun following him, beating him with her sword.

When I first saw this scene in a theater at age 14 I never heard a crowd laugh so hard and so loud. I also saw Caddyshack in a theater and I remember the crowd going wild with laughter. 1973-1988 Definitely was a classic time period for seeing movies in a movie theater. I personally have not stepped foot in a movie theater now for some thirty years. And I can't name a single classic movie I missed during that time. Same for music. Every week for 20 years while growing up in the 70s and 80s I was at the music store buying something or recording off the radio. Now I have not bought a single piece of music or turned on the radio in decades. I also grew up a huge NFL fan. Now I haven't watched a game in 20 years and I could care less. Same for pro wrestling. I grew up on 70s and 80s pro wrestling. Attended dozens of live shows. The first thing my friends and I did when one of us was the first to get his license in 1982 was take a road trip to Atlanta and see a Georgia Championship Wrestling Omni show. Now I haven't watched wrestling in 25 years and whenever I stumble across it on TV I sit there in stunned disbelief. What the hell has happened? I can not believe the disintegration of all forms of entertainment in the last 50 years. Now on Sundays instead of watching the NFL I find myself more entertained watching QVC's In The Kitchen With David. I'm an eyewitness to yesterday's greatness and today's crapola.
You know, after rewatching this clip, I almost wonder if that was Belushi going down the stairs in the desk. I always thought it was a stunt double, then they switched out Belushi in a break-away chair, and he "fell" a few feet from off camera to make the edit look seamless and realistic. Clearly it's him on the floor when the chair "smashes" and "breaks." That could be accomplished with the balsa wood chair meant to break and him either falling forward off of the same stairs or from a small platform just behind the camera. But now, I wonder if it was actually him that did the stunt. He was in great shape when he made this movie. Even with the drugs. He could have done that stunt. That's a confined space to limit possible injury, he could have been wearing padding underneath the suit and the chair of course was always breakaway, they probably had more than one ready to go for multiple takes. It wouldn't surprise me if he had the balls to do the falling-down-the-stairs stunt on his own.
There's a reason why the camera only shows her from waist up. The way she smoothly slides back as the door closes kills me
You don’t need a lightsaber when you have a ruler.
This IS one of those movies that I will always watch to the end if I find it during channel surfing. I love it that much.❤
When I first saw this scene in a theater at age 14 I never heard a crowd laugh so hard and so loud.
Do you post this comment on every film clip you liked when you were young to make this point?
The desk falling down the stairs killed me XD
I have seen this scene more times than I can count, and yet I was laughing so hard I couldn't breath. Such a great movie.
She plays the drums better than Willie "Too Big" Hall
LOL!!!
Classic of classics

2:15 I see how she could be star wars related but 2:55 Sweet Jeebus this woman knows the force!
This is why I started calling nuns penguins.
iammontecristo
Nuns started getting called penguins with the first explorations of Antartica. 😄
I remember Kathleen Freeman from Hogan's Heroes - she played General Burkhalter's sister. She was great in that too!
The way she slid back into the door with it shutting behind her. 😂😂
There's a reason why the camera only shows her from waist up. Because she's standing on a moving platform that goes all the way back into the room, hidden by the camera and by the desk in the room where she was sitting when they entered. Then a production assistant hidden behind the door slowly pushes it closed as she hits a certain mark in the room. Easy stuff to build and film, but badass look for her character and this scene.
@@cainster yep
Glides backward through the door. 🤣🤣🤣🤣😃😃😂😊😆😁😁😅😌 That old 5 panel door.
This is what happens when you cuss in the house of God.
Ab-so-lute-ly a TOTAL classic.
"You fat penguin!"
Love it.
I can't even count how many times I've seen this film. Great scene lol.... This and Scene with John Lee Hooker are my favs!
I adore Kathleen Freeman. Best scene in the movie.
The best scene from a great movie with many, many great scenes.
I wonder how many times John Belushi had to roll down the stairs and how many desks had to be destroyed for this scene. Comedy Gold.
That stunt is insane.
I doubt that Belushi did it himself, but whoever did it was a beast.
Miss Kathleen Freeman, incredible actress and this is one of her greatest roles.❤
The penguin is the only person the Blues Brothers were afraid of.
We’re on a mission from God.
The part at the end when she retracts back into the room 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅. They pulled that off perfectly.
I still remember, the first time I saw this scene, at the moment when she starts hitting them rapidly back and forth with the ruler, I laughed so hard I woke up everyone in the house.
