Ben, I’m sorry but you are misinformed a bit about the EV energy demands during extreme heat. The issue doesn’t lie with the amount of EVs and the need to charge them, it’s actually that the grid infrastructure is so ancient and outdated that it’s failing to meet the demand during heatwaves. If we modernize the grid we can meet the demand of an all-electric vehicle future.
Small modular reactors are a very viable option in their specific target marketplace. Westinghouse Evinci reactors and AP300 SMRs will allow nuclear to be a more accessible power source for remote or small operations. There is a lot of potential for SMRs to become more main stream, however, I think most utility companies are still going to look toward building the AP1000's based on the cost per output for an AP1000 vs AP300.
