It's AOL Sessions. I think the purpose of it was to observe the talent I have no idea. They should have moved more. That room seemed so small to move around though. :P
It depends on who is filming, and what they ask the audience to do. On TV/video movements look bigger, so sometimes when doing things like this they prefer to have audience members not as active as it may be too distracting and can actually take away from the performance as it is seen on TV/Video.
Best crowd ever. They sing along incredible at 2:40 and they weren't supposed to stand up, sing, shout and what so ever. It's about recording Gavin's performance, not about filming a live gig somewhere, because then they would have done that. So stop bitching on that crowd, they have to stick to the the rules. They're having a good time, so should you!
