    whats your thoughts on anterior open bite correction via braces. i was told i need jaw surgery, but sorta hesitant due to complications, and its a pretty invasive surgery. also, the oral surgeon told me it could relapse, which completely negates the point of the surgery. im just tryna see whats the best option for long term success. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. thank u

      A lot can be possible with braces these days but it really depends on the nature of the anterior open bite. I would recommend an assessment with an Orthodontist and following their advice.

    Is it fixable with a operation too? Instead of a braces.

    My ortho wants to pull my pre molars but I don’t have any crowding. Can I get orthognathic surgery without extractions? I have a severe open bite

      It is certainly possible in certain situations🙂, something to ask your orthodontist.

    Im 16 . Is it too late for my open bite to get fixed without surgery ..? I went to a specialist orthodontist, and he said that he would
    - Only be able to close the bite a little bit
    BUT , I don't get why this may be ..
    Is it because I got them on too late or is it because of my type. I know you can't give a case specific answer, but could you just perhaps give a general overview of why this might be ...

      I'm afraid this is too specific to advise you on without performing a full clinical assessment. I would advise you ask your Orthodontist this question. Best of luck!

    Hi, thanks for the informative video !
    I wanted to ask, I have an anterior open bite from thug - sucking from a young age. I did get braces last year when I was 13 and have them off now. I now have been wearing my Vivera retainers for 6 months now and it still fits no problem. Does this mean my teeth have remained in position and not been affected by tongue -thrust?

    • @bracebook1965
      @bracebook1965  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question Molly! Viviera retainers do not generally retain vertical correction (extrusion of teeth to correct Anterior Open Bites) and fixed retainers are additionally recommended (belt and braces) in these cases. Worth discussing with your orthodontist!

      @@bracebook1965 So does that mean there's a possibility my teeth still could've shifted, despite me wearing my retainers in all day ?

    • @yessirski9801
      @yessirski9801 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bracebook1965 Also, how come orthodontists don't tell us all these things..? They just say to make sure you wear your retainer and keep good oral hygiene .. and you teeth will stay straight ?

    • @yessirski9801
      @yessirski9801 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So are they not technically lying

    • @bracebook1965
      @bracebook1965  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@yessirski9801 Orthodontists will advise on a case-specific basis. Your question was quite general and interchangeably used tongue-thrust and thumb sucking which are different aetiological factors in AOB. So I can only generally tell you that Viviera retainers do not maintain extrusion as well as fixed retainers and that you should discuss this with your Orthodontist if you have concerns. They might say that you had no extrusion (only posterior intrusion) so don't need them, your aetiological factors (tongue thrust or thumb sucking) have been removed, the risks of fixed retainers outweighed the benefits in your case, or they might say a number of different other valid reasons why this was deemed inappropriate for you. Anything that I say here is always trumped by case-specific advice from your Orthodontist as there are too many variables to factor in giving generic advice when I have not seen your teeth or the movements undertaken. I always recommend you seek the advice of your own Orthodontist and use this merely as a platform to spread awareness never to undermine my highly trained Specialist Orthodontic colleagues. Hope that helps!

    jaw surgery is compulsory for open bite can it correct with braces

    • @bracebook1965
      @bracebook1965  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the enquiry. Jaw surgery is not compulsory for all open bite corrections and some astonishing corrections can be made with braces (+/- mini-implants / temporary anchorage devices) or even aligners like "Invisalign". You would need to discuss this with a Specialist Orthodontist however, can I ask where you're based?
