    KCP-000
    "The Kraken"
    Object Class: Keter
    Special Containment Procedures:
    KCP-000 is to be locked in a 3m x 3m x 3m faraday cage encased in a 0.5m thick concrete-lead exterior in Site KR-12. No less than six 9mm x 1m steel bolts are to run through the faraday cage and concrete shell. The washers and nuts are to be tightened and welded securely such that there are no moving parts, with the long ends of the bolts running into holes drilled directly into bedrock and filled with concrete. Under no circumstances are the bolts to be loosened, nor the cage disconnected from direct contact to the bedrock. Unnecessary loose objects are to be kept away from the containment chamber, and no moving parts are allowed in the containment chamber. Containment chamber is to be kept under constant video and audio surveillance. No less than three electromagnetic sensors are to be placed in the room tuned to detect rays in the [REDACTED] range. Motion sensors are to be placed facing the containment chamber. Any video, audio, electromagnetic anomaly, or movement is to be reported immediately to any Level 4 personnel. Objects exhibiting properties similar to instances of KCP-000A (see Description) are to be reported immediately to any Level 4 personnel, followed by immediate evacuation of all Level 3 or lower personnel from Site KR-12 with exception to any class K personnel as authorized by any Level 4 personnel. KCP-000 is not to be relocated or experimented on without approval from all of O5.
    Description:
    KCP-000 is an entity with no physical form. The only way to detect the presence of KCP-000 is through electromagnetic radiation in the [REDACTED] frequency or through it's effects on it's physical surroundings. All physical objects within an approximately 1m proximity to the center of KCP-000 exhibit anomalous properties and can be classified as instances of KCP-000A. Instances of KCP-000A will show signs of rapid movement back and forth when any force is exerted upon them, increasing in velocity at an exponential rate depending on the mass and complexity of the object, proximity to KCP-000, and amount of time exposed. Massive objects and objects with many moving parts tend to be the most susceptible, however large objects require longer exposure to reach a critical point. Object may cause extreme heating due to air resistance, rapid oxidization and combustion, and extreme damages to the surroundings. Instances of KCP-000A will continue to accelerate as they oscillate until they have completely disintegrated or have reached escape velocity.
    Addendum:
    Seismic sensors have been placed in Site KR-12 following concerns that keological activity will disturb the KCP-000 containment cell and bedrock, causing an XK-Class end-of-the-world scenario. Preventative measures are being considered by O5, however no feasible solutions have been found.

    • @psilynt1
      @psilynt1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't seen the changes in the new version, but this was entirely possible in older versions too. I've done playthroughs where I did nothing but focus on using minmus as my "last hop to anywhere". You can get good at timing when you drop down to Kerbin to reach other bodies. Since you refuel in minmus orbit and a transfer orbit from kerbin-minmus is already almost an escape, it makes it cheap to go places. You drop down to kerbin for the oberth effect, since the gravity is so much higher than minmus or mun.

    • @cjmars822
      @cjmars822 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I'm not a rocket scientist as you appear to be. Thanks for the effort

    • @psilynt1
      @psilynt1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's not rocket science. It's orbital mechanics. If the rocket explodes, that's another department (heh). I think you'd just need to see it done a few times to be able to do it yourself.
      If you can do a return trip from minmus and can do an interplanetary transfer orbit, you can do this sort of technique.It's just doing both at once: the trick being the timing. My advise is to practice it with a bunch of dumb satellites around minmus. Learn when to go home so that the return orbit is almost the same as an orbit you would to reach during a burn to another planet.
      For instance when you want to hit Jool, you'd do it when minmus is moving in the prograde direction. If done right, you escape without having to spend a significant chunk (about 750 dv) of fuel.
      If you want to do what Scott did in this video, it's just playing gravitic pinball and using flybys to 'suck' you in the right direction and repeat. With a lot of waiting and a few tiny correction burns, you can slingshot the same planet multiple times.

  • @MobileTech296
    @MobileTech296 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I'm just imagining some poor Kerbal, straight out of college being put to work on what they were told was going to be an exciting new satellite mission, watching as friends and colleagues are promoted or assigned work on cutting edge technologies while they continue monitor the same little satellite they sent into space all those years ago...then 36 years later finally being able to retire having worked on a total of one project their entire career.

    Keep doing KSP, Scott! Love gravity assists, wish there was a good tool to plan/calculate them, also to know in advance how much dV a mission will take, total. I'm sure NASA don't eyeball these gravity-assist Pluto missions, etc, and I hate spending hours launching a giant spaceship for Eve/Jool that looks over-specced, only to find, on arrival, that it lacks the dV for Orbit Capture, or to return home.. I end up making a fleet of tankers and run out of playtime making them meet up, dock, transfer fuel, etc and never actually get there. Once you're in Orbit, being able to get the perfect mission plan inc. assists, etc, would be great.. in fact I wish NASA had a public tool for people to look for interesting missions to suggest that could actually be done..

    Yeah. Just my luck. At last, the last of the mods i'm using was finally updated to be compatible with 1.6.1, i was waiting for ages. Until recently, i was still playing 1.2.2. Really a long wait. Few days ago, i routinely checked curseforge, without any expectations, and there it was. So i downloaded it. I updated KSP to 1.6.1, installed all the mods and started dealing with the trouble of unknowingly picking the version of Kerbal Attachment System that doesn't support legacy parts anymore. So, some of my struts-added-in-space orbital stations and ships are a bit screwed now, but they're still there, which was important to me. I made everything work (sort-of), and then bam, new KSP version released. Seeing how much time it took to update Kerbal Attachment System, i think that again - it will be ages before i'll be able to update to 1.7 (or, more likely even later versions). Still, i love the game very much. Too bad that the mods always took so long to catch up. I'm a bit surprised, that KSP developers didn't consider the option to include super-useful mods like MechJeb, Kerbal Engineer, Kerbal Alarm Clock and KIS/KAS into vanilla KSP. I couldn't imagine playing without MechJeb. Not that i can't get to orbit, dock, undock, deorbit or transfer between planets without it, i can, and i always made sure i'm able to do it manually before ever using MechJeb, but it's much more comfortable to use MechJeb, especially when repeatedly doing routine missions like launching scanning equipment, relays, getting new modules to orbital stations and so on...

    What I would really like is for you to remake a "how to use maneuver notes", because there are so many new functions and it can be wary hard to understand all the info's, plus it is so easy to get confused by all the icons that are popping up when a maneuver line is crossing a target.

      @@tetsujin_144 Mostly, I think, it's because bears are significantly more massive than kerbals and thus need more powerful spark engines to compensate.

    Scott, you forgot to mention the problem of n-body gravity . Now not simulated in KSP. Otherwise it would be almost unplayable game (due to limits of our hardware and our brains).
