look at the positive side - store owners and shoppers don't need to worry about crime
You can thank the Biden supporters for massive crimes.

This is so sad. Who would've guessed enabling criminals would lead to stores closing?

good idea i giant downtown JAIL!!!!!!! we don't need shops anymore we need PRISONS!!!!!
No bro. Haven't you seen the news? They want to turn the space into biotech, or college campus. Besides, criminals don't go to jail nowadays.

With crime, lol.

I think revitalizing the Mall into a Homeless Shelter or Safe Drug Injection Site would be a good transition in the rebranding that San Francisco has been working on!
lol, it's funny you say that because as I was watching this I was thinking "I bet the city would love to turn this into homeless shelters/housing for people having crisis". Because anytime they've done that in the past it almost instantly ruins the surrounding area and brings crime, trash, chaos, etc. Living on the same block as 2 homeless hotels, a navigation center and 2 assisted housing/low income housing facilities, I can personally attest for the deterioration they cause. Many of us just miss feeling safe.
drug addicts and and homeless are so yesterday....illegals is where the real grift is now......sf is asleep at the wheel while ny and chicago are getting all of those most favored desirables
And send the bill to J.Crew and Adidas and other former tenants and tell them it’s their obligation

Equality Equity Inclusion not working out too well for SF?
Santana Row is great, free parking, no homeless, don’t worry about car being broken into. 45 minutes south of SF.

Pathetic mayor and her NAACP president denying crime in SA and criticizing Asian rapper is so pathetic. Every criminal haters should write a letter to their family members of Mayor and her supporters.

I remember those days! You could walk everywhere (everywhere!) and have a nice time, people weren’t looking at you like you were an opportunity, you know? I was seeing homeless addicts sleeping in doorways by the Stinking Rose, and that was shocking for the time. Now I’m sad to say it’s every big blue city. I cannot see things improving I’m sorry to say. Human beings are falling into Neanderthal behavior and thought patterns. Laws only work if they are enforced. How long do you think it will be before martial law gets declared and we law-abiding folk get thrown under the bus for real?

NBC Bay Area. Your journalism here is devoid of content. Did you edit out the real reason the stores are leaving? We all know what it is, you don't need to pretend like that lady you interviewed (or maybe just severely edited) that this is an opportunity to diversify. The area is dying from the crime and rampant drug use.
God forbid they actually report the TRUTH!!!
@@TomSmith-ls5rn I'll judge each story independently and when they start doing their job, I'll post a positive comment. (And I do occasionally, ABC7 News has had some good stories where they interview the people affected by the crime and don't edit out or distort what they are saying).
Recently ABC7 News sent a reporter to watch the new BART gates and just reported what they saw. I appreciate that kind of reporting.
This story by NBC was drivel.
@@alansnyder8448 Spot on. I'm sure they all bow to political pressure, and I too saw the BART piece. That one was at least accurate and objective.

You have to be NUTS 🥜 to have stores in SF
Abby: If you have to be nakedly dishonest for the reason business is leaving San Francisco, don't bother being interviewed. The rampant homelessness, crime, high prices, and ridiculous tourism fees being charged for such an underwhelming experience is the problem. The current Board of Supervisors are tone deaf and out of touch operating as if the San Francisco Bay Area is still the epicenter of the technology boom.

Don't you know since the 1960s they always find some idiot standing by that will agree to whatever stupid topic they're talking about it's usually admitting to being frightened or scared
Malls have long been on the decline, empty offices are part of the loss of traffic however, how many people go shopping right from work? Crime is the number one issue as without crime, the stores could remain open.
@@bobroberts2371I live 45 minutes from San Francisco and almost all the shops are present in my city within walking distance. You can buy a Rolex at the jewelry store and not get accosted.
We are seeing more foot traffic in my city as this area is clean, luxurious, and not piled up with the homeless doing drugs on the street.
Fix the homeless, drug, and crime issues OR there will never be a renaissance in San Francisco for another 10-15 years.

It is so sad that those criminals did not receive proper education from their parents and grandparents as to how to grow up to be good citizens. If all parents in Oakland and San Francisco TAUGHT their children properly, they would not become criminals. I blame the parents and grandparents more than I blame the government.
This is why San Fran can't have nice things...
After all the businesses leave, crimes will go down.
No, they'll just steal from each other more often
Bravo! Leave and don't ever come back! Businesses big or small deserve better than paying taxes to local municipalities and get next to nothing in support!
I thought the mall overall was closing
“Reimagine” - Mayor London Breed
For those people saying it’s the economy, that’s a bullsht lie. I get it, the wallet is tight right now, and many people shop online.
But here in the Boston area, stores, shops, and malls are thriving! It’s not the same as what I’m used to back home in the bay. With crime rates back home, you don’t wanna deal with possibles shootouts driving on 80 or 101 or even just going to the grocery store. It’s drama. People can’t act right!
I do miss home but seeing everything closing and get locked up behind plexiglass is just sad.
Defund the police and vote Democrat

that is our only hope!
Meanwhile Sonestown and Serramonte are bursting at the seams. The crime and anti car policy is sure making things great.
It's spelled Stonestown, stupoid.
They are coming to San Leandro .
San Leandro dont have money to maintain this chain... you all shop RACK
they being stores or they being criminals and drug addicts
No worries - London Breed said they can turn that into low-cost housing too.
ADDY YOU ARE WRONG. i worked on downtown sf and near that mall. none of my co workers ever bought anything in that mall because it was just expensive. that mall and the surrounding shops are mainly for tourists. It is the rising crime and lack of tourists that killing that mall. the did have a decent food court
Shoplifters made cost high in products and Democrats love to raise property tax and criminals. They just don't want their political supporters in jail, lol.
CRIME CRIME CRIME!!!
What never would have expected such a thing! Wonder Why? Type in answer will be Banned from commenting on TH-cam! Comeback ? Yea hold your breath. Blame in the pandemic again!
Greed and apathy played well into the mall and surrounding areas downfall. The city charges $6-$8/hour for public parking and ignorantly tells the public to take BART and Muni which makes no sense when you're purchasing large box and multiple items that paints a target on your back when taking public transportation. The sheer laziness and political agenda against vehicles is another thing too. There has been everything to support Muni and bicyclists, but NOTHING to support drivers and maintaining the road. There are potholes left and right everywhere downtown, Hunter's Point, Tenderloin, and many other areas. A second bridge is desperately needed between the Bay Bridge and San Mateo Bridge to offset the traffic going to the Bay Bridge that spends zero dollars in the city.
If the city wants people to come and spend money, they need to make an effort to give people a reason to come and spend money. People want to go to quality stores and venues, not walk through a place that looks like a 3rd world country.
When they shut down Market street to cars, that was a massive blow to businesses downtown. It was all downhill from there.
@@lyndsay4153 As someone who’s politics lean left, the extreme left has moved in, creeped into SF leadership and taken over the city with absolute nonsense. The same thing that happened to Market St. is happening to Valencia. Closing down streets hurt businesses because if you can’t see for yourself what’s there when you’re driving by, you won’t be curious to stop and go inside. This dumb war on vehicles needs to stop. Every time public transportation’s ineptitude is threaten, bridge toll fares and public parking are always targeted to subsidizing their shortfall and 6 figure salaries they don’t deserve
Your bridge idea is interesting. Apparently there's an old idea called the "Southern Crossing" proposal and there's been a number of versions since the 1940s. One was from Potrero Point to Alameda. There's a wikipedia article about it.
But why was everything so easy when China came to gloat?
This goes well with the broke income housing being built on treasure island.
Valley fair is absolutely thriving!!! This is about crime. San Francisco needs the national guard.

Property taxes make it too expensive for ordinary businesses to operate to pay fir needed policing. And so you get this. I remember when Borders was in Union Square, along with the last Thriftys and some others. They couldn't make enough money to pay the taxes nor the leases, and could not apprehend shoplifters. So they left. I would too, and haven't seriously shopped in SF for over ten years.
wait that happened at Borders wow and where was the Thriftys isn't it just car rental?
@@thatwastakenagain Borders folded some years back ... lots of reasons, but I can't recall one single reason for them going under. Thrifty's, Wolworth's, I. Magnin and J. Magnin (though I never shopped there, some family did). A few others. FOA Schwarts, that high end toy story used to be there, SF Just attracted a lot of scum for some reason and it just became too expensive to do business there.
When your a progressive politician, you promise a lot and deliver nothing, works every time.
As a former San Franciscan, you voted blue and have no clue.

I actually worked in a start-up very close to the mall in 2016. It was a nice area back then. This should be a lesson on how much left-wing progressives can screw up something nice. Turning it into a Venezuela it is so screwed up with drugs, shoplifting, and govt corruption.
