Lockdown sessions...My BFS set ups!

  • Right its mid Lockdown here in the UK, we haven't been able to get on the bank for what feels like 15 years and I've finally caved and decided to make a few videos! This video is a look at my BFS gear and a very honest appraisal of why I fish what I fish and how I got into BFS! Remember as always my way is not the highway and there are so many ways to get into BFS fishing or indeed not bothering with mega low casting reels at all based on your fishing. I hope it is interesting and like I always say if you have any questions after watching this vid on anything in it and indeed anything not mentioned i.e cheaper options like the GH100 or the like just drop me a msg on here or on Instagram and I will help you out! And if I get enough questions who know I might get a GH100 just to do a test against my Aldebaran BFS XG 😉👊🙌 I hope you and your family's are safe and well and dealing with this unprecedented time as best you can. I hope you enjoy the vids if you are getting a bit stuck for something to do stuck inside the house!! This is my third video in the lockdown sessions series and I'm planning on doing a few more so please keep asking questions in the comments and I will keep going!! All these lockdown sessions will be based on questions that I have been asked over the last few months from you guys and girls and I will make as many as I can based on the questions I receive!!
    Fingers crossed this whole situation will start to get relaxed sooner than we all think and we will be back on the bank very soon! But until then apologies its just me in my living room and there is no action from the bank!!
    Stay safe and speak soon!
    For those of you interested in looking at anything I have talked about in this or any of my videos all the bits can be found at Todber Manor. If you want to have a look for yourself please follow this link to my page on their website!

    Also if your interested in the Anglers only Tees clothing I wear please head over to their website and use the code LPF10 for 10% off their entire amazing range!

    Just got my first BFS reel a calcuta conquest BFS as a naughty present to myself, looking to make a versatile allround setup (perch, chub, jackpike?, trout) used on the bank and from kayak. Would the days be a good match with some heavier braid? Also like the finetail as its shorter and would handle on the kayak better but that seems more trout specific, probs end up getting both lol.

    Hi Adam, some great videos that have really fired my imagination. If you had to choose , Speedstyle or Days rod for fishing Ned, Neko, small jighead worms and shads for small river Perch, Pike, Chub and odd rogue trout? I do a lot of UL spinning style but enjoy using a baitcaster for my 15-45g lure rod when I’m after pike, so going to try out BFS.

    Nice video, I feel your pain with the lock down. Luckily here in nj, we have not had a total lock down barring us from fishing, or going outside. Just directions to stay 6 feet away from people, and wear masks around people, for the most part. 2 days ago I pulled the trigger on a Calcutta conquest BFS, and it's scheduled to arrive sometime mid to later next week. Also ordered a Majorcraft troutino 4'10" UL trout rod, which it says will arrive later this month. It'll be my first high end BFS reel, and still the most I've spent on a BFS rod.

    Just a FYI if anyone wants to get in on a cheap BFS rod, AnglingDirect were selling a Korum Snapper 1-10g BFS rod for £20. That is practically giving them away IMO. I've no experience with the brand but I couldnt pass up a £20 rod. If you dont want to spend £200 on a big brand BFS orientated baitcaster, A Kastking Zephyr will sort you out for £40-50. There are better reels but if youre just getting into it and wanting to learn, the Kastking is a very good starting point and you can upgrade the bearings for even better casting performance for even lighter lures, there are tonnes of guides how to do it on youtube. Alternatively you can go a little up market and get a TSURINOYA Dark Wolf Ultra or GENIUS/ELF - DWU is a great reel if a little long in the tooth by now as it has been around for a while and probably being phased out by the GENIUS which is supposedly its replacement. newer and improved reels should start appearing soon enough.

    Hi Adam, loving the channel. I’ve just bought a late birthday present, 3 months late😂. The new Abu, looks great, can’t wait for it to arrive. Thing is I need a new baitcasting rod now! I use Gunki iron Ts for my spinning so am looking at there Chooten finesse rod but am interested in the major craft speed styles. I notice theee both rated up to 7g but will they handle slightly heavier lures eg 7g skirted jig with a Heracles rugby craw or similar. Thanks for the vids, finally catching on the Ned rig after watching your vids. Was never confident fishing lures that slow but it works. Just damn annoying TH-cam not sending notifications to my email anymore 😡. Keep em coming Adam👍👍🎣🎣

    Nice video man, I'm really struggling with what method to focus on. Should I Texas rig, carolina, should I be hopping it along the bottom ned rig or weedless style, should I fish jigs, does it matter? Im just swamped really and don't know what to try? I like the look of the Carolina rig with the bait fished with a slow drop inbetween twitches?

    • @Watercraftfishingtv
      @Watercraftfishingtv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ernest sorry for the delay. I usually put about 70yards on if I'm using braid and if I'm using fluro I will fill up as much as I can which is usually about 50 yards sometimes less on some spools! Hope that makes sense. Hope you are well! 👊

    Hi Adam
    Can I ask a question? Which braid or line would you put on a Shimano Calcutta BFS reel? I’m fishing for perch. Thanks Adam
    Your help appreciated
    David

    • @Watercraftfishingtv
      @Watercraftfishingtv  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave. The key is low diameter and 8 strand for the rounder profile. I tend to look in the 11-14lb range and then pair that with finesse fluro or wire leaders. Have a look at the Shimano Kairiki as a starting point but there are loads out there with the same properties in various price ranges. But stick with the above parameters and you won't go wrong! Hope you're well mate! 👊

      Abu bf8 Rox dont really have bfs spool under 8 grams. But maybe you getting away with it
      not spool it fully and use thin braid ! 0.08 that really works well.

    I'm new to light lure fishing and wanted some advice on what's best to use flouro leaders or wire trace?

    • @Watercraftfishingtv
      @Watercraftfishingtv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Stu thanks for watching and thanks for the question. To be honest it's a difficult one to answer because for the most part it's down to your local waters. If there is a high population of pike and Jack's I always use a light wire trace but if like alot of my local waters you encounter pike rarely and I'm searching for perch generally on the bottom I will use Fluro. For my perch fishing I tend to use 8-10lb as well just to give me more chance of landing any rouge pike as the diameter of the line is i and more resistant to being bitten off. For trout I use Fluro. Once I start fishing bigger swim baits and crank baits I always use a light wire as it's very difficult to be picky as to what attacks your lure and no one wants to leave a crank in a pikes mouth. I have been thinking about experimenting with heavy duty Fluro traces like they do in Europe but I guess being British I am very used to using a trace. In short if in doubt use a trace. If I'm fishing on the bottom and targeting perch specifically I will use Fluro as pike attacks are rare and tend to be in the corner of the mouth as they often pick it up sideways (although I recommend 8-10lb Fluro to give you added diameter just In case) if you are fishing medium sized shads and if it's the first time you have fished a spot and there is a likelihood there is a few pike around use a trace. Hope that makes sense. Best thing to do is to carry both Fluro and wires as they meet different needs and fishing situations. Hope you are well mate! Thanks again for watching! 👊👍

    I have the Beneki and the N-One and I've noticed the N-One is more cable of throwing the 2gram and under baits. The Beneki seems to not be capable of throwing much under 3 grams despite its rod listing of 1/32. My question is how do the speedstyle or the days compare with regards to throwing around 1/16 or lower?
