Great Paisley review. One major omission is the Rainy Day Project, in which members of the Rain Parade, Bangles and Three O'Clock team up for a jam session with their favorite songs. Also, I'd argue that early Game Theory belongs to the PU. There were also a number of smaller banda like Eyes of Mind.

I have enjoyed your series on “Jangle Pop”. This Paisley Underground segment is my favorite. These are the bands that interest me the most in this genre. Especially The Rain Parade. They are definitely on my radar now. I know you have researched and did your homework to make these presentations knowledgeable and entertaining. Thank you 🙏. This year has been so hard for everyone and has affected all of us in sometimes unexpected ways. I love that “E.L.E.” mind set. Beautiful.

Hanna- another fantastic jangle pop video. I hope there’s a part 4 sometime down the road. So cool to hear your intro song by Erik Voeks. He’s a really talented pop singer songwriter. You should definitely check out his two albums (CD only) both essential listening! As for paisley underground 3 o’clock and Rain Parade are my favorites and like you I prefer early Bangles/Bangs. I’ve been a fan of the Connells for a long time. Saw them live at a small venue in early 90’s. Good to hear they’re working on new material. Guad Diary is another favorite, I love side 1 of Jamboree. I bought two Jazz Butcher CD box sets in the past few years, a bit hit or miss but some really good songs on those. I have the first two volumes of Twelve String High comps and enjoy them. Look forward to more of your videos and hope you’re well. -Matt

Hey Matt! Thanks for the kind words, my fellow jangle pop aficionado! I'm sure I will have jangle pop collection updates in the future! I'm always buying. :-) I will definitely check out Erik Voeks' offerings. Let's hope we get that new Connells album. It was only this year that I became a big fan of theirs! I was thinking the same thing about side 1 of Jamboree - that's definitely the winning side! Ah, I didn't know those Jazz Butcher CD box sets existed. Off to do some research on those now! Hope you're doing well, too! Not sure you're too into shoegaze, but I know you dig some power pop, so I'll have some power pop updates soon, too! Enjoy your weekend!

    • @DeflatingAtheism
      @DeflatingAtheism ปีที่แล้ว +1

I saw the Connells as a kid when they played a street fair here in Greensboro! They sadly never seemed to get their due- as contemporaries of R.E.M., I think people just had their ‘moody Southern jangle pop’ band mentally slotted off, although they were of course quite different. Then they had a breakout in Europe in the ’90s with with ‘74-‘75, and did a European tour, which they apparently hated. Sometimes it’s better to be playing for a small, dedicated fanbase than to crowds who only know you for one song.

You closed down your Jangle Pop 'holy trinity' series wonderfully, Hanna (although, never close the door on a Part 4, ha ha). As usual, so many bands you presented are lifetime favorites of mine, and so many great memories from my nostalgic college radio days, especially The Rain Parade, Dream Syndicate, Green on Red, The Connells (love this band), The Jazz Butcher, The Woodentops (got to see them live). Love to see a copy of the new Fontaines D.C. over your shoulder. It's been my most played album since its release and will no doubt be in my top 20 for 2020. Also, loved your intro song, so thanks much for sharing the compilation it came from. I definitely need to pick both of those up. Thanks again for all three informative videos on all things 'Jangle Pop.' I both learned things and took a nice trip back in time. That indeed is a nice combination heading into the weekend. Can't wait for the Shoegaze update. That genre is even more in my wheelhouse--if that's possible?

Oh no, I wouldn't dare rule out a part 4...although it may just be collection updates from now on! So glad you noticed the Fontaines D.C. album over my shoulder. Yeah, it's been in constant rotation for me, too! Love their moody sound. 2020 has been absolutely stellar for music, has it not?! Usually I don't pay too much attention to new releases, but wow, this year is impressing me. Ah, very cool you got to see the Woodentops live! I'm thrilled you're looking forward to the shoegaze update, too! I'll be showing old and new! :-)

I love Bangles and have on CD their albums All Over The Place (1984), Different Light (1986), Everything (1988) and Greatest Hits (1990) from Columbia/Sony Music. Love this video and all the memories came flooding back of those long far off days of The Paisley Underground, great times for me. I can still remember having to get Sixteen Tambourines by The Three O' Clock and All over The Place by The Bangles on import (I'm from Cool Britannia) and we, at the time couldn't get those two albums anywhere. I have a lot of what you have been showing us, on CD. Going to have to do some serious crate digging to find them all on vinyl. Well done Hanna. I never really concentrated on genres too much. If I like the music I listen to it. But its nice to see what categories some of the alternative bands that I heard on terrestrial radio and also bought fit into. There is one band that you and I showed Miracle Legion that I guess would fit into this genre as well. Some of the bands like G Diary, Green on Red and the Dream S definitely bring back memories of the eighties. Well done Hanna. As always~

Hi Hanna, I've been collecting records since 1970 when I was 14 years old and not too long ago was arrogant enough to think that there wasn't much I hadn't heard of and new to discover but you are constantly proving me wrong about that. Thanks for the video. It's a nice distraction from the smoke and fire currently around here.

@@TheOmahaIntrovert My vinyl collection is around 1800 records. I've pared it down three different times and quit collecting them for a few years in the 90's when they faded away and into the 2000's before making a comeback. I went waaaay overboard on collecting cd's though. lol Some friends and family think I went way overboard on vinyl too. The fires came close enough that I was a little worried on Wednesday but it looks better now. Though they warn us to stay ready just in case conditions change for the worse. Saw the sun this morning for the first time since last Tuesday morning so the smoke has thinned a little. Got a few photos. Sun turns an awesome shade of pink/orange when seen through smoke.

Always nice to learn about new groups & genre's of music that were not on the immediate radar. Not to mention the song samples. The Bangles on colored vinyl looks good. The Pandoras with their take on the Shadows of Knight Gloria LP. Right down to the colors. Nice 3 part series on Jangle Pop, Paisley Underground. Hi Hanna, great to see you promoting the Three O'Clock, one of my favorite early-80s bands. One of the best shows I've ever seen was them opening for REM, a perfect pairing for the summer of 1985. They were touring Arrive Without Traveling and Fables Of The Reconstruction respectively - if you're not familiar with Arrive it's worth checking out IMO, a little slick compared to 16 Tambourines maybe but still unmistakably the Three O'Clock.
Unrelated: the Under The Covers series by Susannah Hoffs and Matthew Sweet (how's that duo for jangle-pop lineage?). Three albums faithfully covering some of their favorite songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Their version of Bell Bottom Blues (Derek & The Dominoes) is totally killer.

Love that first Three O’Clock record. Regret selling mine a while ago. Game Theory is so underrated. I’m in the minority and tend to reach for Crashing Dream more than Third Rail. Not familiar with any pre-I.R.S. Bangles stuff. Looks rad. I think I heard they used to be called The Bangs but got them confused with a 90s act. I really like the current Dream Syndicate stuff. Goes back to more of the psych roots. Long Ryders yes yes yes!!! Love them so much and another band who had a great new album last year. Green On Red is definitely not the easiest band to find in the wild. Love Gravity Talks and finally this year got into their later stuff. Fun & Games by The Connells is a scorcher. Seen that Woodentops around but never grabbed it. I’ll have to get that next time. Guadalcanal Diary, one of the best for sure.

I just realized I wasn't subbed to you before. Argh. That has been corrected! So cool you are a fellow fan of Game Theory as well! I pick up their LPs when I see them! I actually know of a few people who prefer Crashing Dream more than the early psych stuff from Rain Parade, so no biggie! All fabulous music! Yes, the Bangles used to be called the Bangs early on! I need to get on the bus with the new Dream Syndicate offerings. Time for me to sample finally! You're right about Green on Red being pretty elusive in the wild. I have only seen Gravity Talks twice, and I do a lot of digging! I hope you find Giant from the Woodentops! I see other albums by them, but not Giant too often! Cheers!

Hey Hanna! Great to see you back to continue this series. I just traded in my two albums by The Three O’Clock. I just wasn’t spinning them. I do have a few of their songs on playlists that I stream, though. I would’ve sent you Arrive Without Traveling, but I thought you already had it. 😞 I’m very focused to paring down albums by certain artists and specific genres that I really like but don’t feel compelled to own everything. I have an OG of Emergency Third Rail Power Trip that I picked up before I even really knew what “paisley underground” was. It’s amazing and I’ll never let go of that one. I also have The Day of Wine and Roses and Opal’s Happy Nightmare Baby. Both essentials in my book. The one band that I’m missing and would like something by is early Bangles. They were garage badasses. I will be mentioning The Connells in a future video on more NC artists. You do such a great job with these genre-focused series and it’s great to see how your collection has grown over time. Hope all is well. Looking forward to your next video. Cheers! ✌🏻

I'm paring down my collection, too. Getting rid of a lot of classic rock LPs I just don't need. I think radio overkill has killed some of my love for classic rock. I'm just keeping the essentials. I come across "All Over the Place" from the Bangles somewhat frequently. Let me pick that up next time I see it so I can send it to you. I have something else in mind I can send to you, too. I look forward to your chat about the Connells! Fantastic group and they need more recognition! Cheers, my friend!

I got to see Rain Parade with Winter Hours and Let's Active at a show at the Ritz NYC (the original one downtown) July 18, 1986, a true omnibus type show, it seemed to go on, with intermissions, for about four hours, or so it seemed. Rain Parade I didn't really know, but they did a great set, and I recall hearing them play "No Easy Way Down" which I had heard on college radio around that time. A totally hypnotic, and mesmerizing band. The Let's Active set was hilarious, bracing, full of goofs by the encores, including Deep Purple covers and stuff. Winter Hours got opening slot, and it was sure something to finally get to see those guys live, and they sounded easily better live than on record. I was right up front stage middle or left, to my vague recollection. Didn't get home until like 3 a.m.

"2x4" by Guadalcanal Diary is one of my favorite records (the CD version has a bonus track of them singing "And Your Bird Can Sing"). Speaking of The Bangles, have you ever heard Continental Drifters? Members include Vicki Peterson, Susan Cowsill, and Peter Holsapple. They put out three very good albums. And on a side note, you bear a striking resemblance to Amy Poehler (and I mean that as a compliment!). Another great video, Hanna!

    Hi Hanna!
Just watched your Jangle Pop trilogy. Well done, it was a great overview of a group of bands I'm very familiar with, and some that were completely new to me. I love it when people show music which goes beyond the usual VC fare. You clearly put a lot of thought into these videos, and I really appreciate that.
I know how easy it is to fall down musical rabbit holes, I've done that many times, most recently with the UK Pub Rock scene.
Here a few bands you might like the jangle of...as if you need any more recommendations. Excuse me if you're already familiar with these.
Bristol's The Blue Aeroplanes jangled enough that they might be up your street.
Stary Eyed & Laughing's eponymous debut from 1974, is an early Jangle Pop/Power Pop record. It kind of bridges the gap between The Byrds and the 80s jangling.
Scotland's (again!) Cosmic Rough Riders had some jangle to their blissed out sunshine psych pop, which you may well like.
    Cheers - Hedley

    • @TheOmahaIntrovert
      @TheOmahaIntrovert  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Hedley! I'm thrilled you stopped by! Thanks for the comment. My three favorite rock subgenres are jangle pop, power pop, and shoegaze, so I do focus on those a lot which not too many VC channels showcase, I guess. I only talk about what I'm passionate about.
As far as UK pub rock, maybe one of the only bands I have in my collection of that particular scene is Dr. Feelgood. I'll have to investigate more!
Ohhh, how did I forget to mention the Blue Aeroplanes? Shame on me. I actually own Spitting Out Miracles on vinyl and then Beatsongs on CD. Darn! There will be future jangle pop collection updates in the future and maybe I will finally mention them in one of those. Thank you for the reminder! I always forget to mention something in a video!
I have sampled Starry Eyed and Laughing before based on someone's recommendation and have to agree that they are very Byrds-y and I truly enjoyed what I heard. Perhaps I will find that debut soon!
Cosmic Rough Riders are definitely on my radar as well. They are up my alley after sampling a few songs a couple of months ago!
Seems you are quite familiar with this excellent subgenre as well. That being said, I'm glad I was able to introduce you to a few new ones as well! :-)
      Cheers! Thank you!

Hey Hanna! Thanks for another really enjoyable video! I can never get enough jangle pop. Love that you concentrated on the Paisley Underground in this installment. Such a wonderful collection of bands in that scene. The Bangles album All Over The Place, The Dream Syndicate's The Days Of Wine And Roses, and The Rain Parade's Emergency Third Rail Power Trip have remained in my listening rotation for so many years now. Those albums never seem to get old. Btw, there's a great informative article on David Roback in a recent issue of Uncut Magazine (with George Harrison on the cover [January 2020]). He really was a special talent. Re The Bangles and The Dream Syndicate, my all-time favorite local NOLA band - The Continental Drifters - featured Vicki Peterson (Bangles) and Mark Walton (Dream Syndicate) along with Peter Holsapple (The d.B's as well as R.E.M. sideman). Was so cool to be able to see that band play live on practically a weekly basis for several years. Speaking of The Dream Syndicate's more recent releases, I definitely recommend checking out their 2017 album How Did I Find Myself Here? It's possibly their strongest collection of songs since Wine and Roses. And so glad you mention that 3x4 compilation - I love that album. Very cool that those classic Paisley Underground bands chose to do an album like that.
The Connells - yes, love them! Their song "74-75" (off of Ring) is one of my favorite songs ever. Great news that they are preparing a new album!
Thanks for the scoop on those Twelve String High comps - I was totally unaware of those. Will definitely check 'em out. I see The Junipers' "And In My Dreams" is on Vol 1. I recommend checking out The Junipers' song "They Lived Up In The Valley" off of Paint The Ground released in 2012. One of my favorite jangly tunes and I think you'd dig it.
Looking forward to the shoegaze video!

Hi Ivan! Thank you for the extremely awesome comment! It's so great to connect with fellow jangle pop fans here. I agree, those 3 paisley underground albums you highlighted never get old! Classics that belong in every collection! You must be the 3rd or 4th person to give high praises and mention of the Continental Drifters. I have only heard Vermilion and loved it immensely upon first listen back in the mid-2000s. I don't know why I haven't checked out their others. For some reason they got pushed to the back burner, but I'm changing that now! Peter Holsapple remains a favorite artist and the Continental Drifters had quite the lineup!
Crossing my fingers for that new Connells album!
Hope you can get your hands on one or several of those 12 String High CDs. Wow, I have that Junipers tune on repeat while I respond to comments right now. Reminds me of the Notorious Byrd Brothers era. What a gorgeous song. Now I want to check out their Paint the Ground album you recommended!

One of the key moments for me was hearing Dreams So Real's early single "Everywhere Girl" on WNYU FM college radio: produced by Peter Buck, besides already being a huge R.E.M. fan
and starting to hear bands like 10,000 Maniacs, Green on Red, The Three O'Clock, Let's Active, Long Ryders, and many of the jangle and Paisley Underground bands just coming up around that time, this song was another key track that just hit me right between the eyes hearing it on radio. Same with hearing Winter Hours' "Hyacinth Girl" on radio, once I heard these new bands, I knew we were in for several more waves of really great music, and that there was in fact, a counterweight to the more commercial, annoying, trendy, ephemeral and gimmicky side of 80s pop and rock music (and dance music). That's when I started to look beyond the usual classic rock schlock at Record World here on LI and make train trips into NYC to do some serious record shopping. I was
still in high school, so the clubs and bars were not in my realm of experience. The dance clubs here weren't gonna play these bands, anyway, honestly.

Professor Hanna, Really enjoyed Chapter 3 in your Home Schooling Course on J-Pop, The Paisley Underground. I was running some record shops in SoCal ( Hollywood, Costa Mesa and San Diego) in 82/83... and it was really cool watching these bands/scene emerge. I sold over a 1000 pieces from my collection in 98 and now when I see cool reminders, like your videos, go to listen and discover those records and are gone...I just want to scream. But it will be fun looking for them again! Thank you for all the work you put into your tubes...they are rockin!

Well! I'm still a relative newcomer to your channel, and so I've just completed watching your jangle pop series. I consider myself pretty in-the-know, and I have a lot of the music you featured, but I don't mind admitting I learned more than a little watching these, for which I'm grateful. All the talk about Mitch Easter reminded me of another jangle artist, Shalini Chatterjee, who was, among other incarnations, in Vinyl Devotion and her self-named band Shalini. Easter produced much of her work, and I believe they were even married for a time. If you haven't already, she's worth checking out. Looking forward to catching up on your other vids, and, of course, the next new one. Hope all's well. And thanks!!

Nicely done, Hanna. I bought "Gravity Talks" at a record store in Jamestown, NY back in 1985. I was in college and working the summer as a waiter at a hotel at Lake Chautauqua, NY. The songs from that album filled the staff quarters on many a night. I don't think Dan Stuart ever sounded as wigged-out again as he did on that album. Almost Roky Erickson-esque. "Snake Bit" and "Five Easy Pieces" are so cool.

So the Rain Parade, early Bangles, Pandoras, and the Dream Syndicate are on my list. Thanks so much for going into the definition of the Paisley Underground and how you described it made total sense. The Dream Syndicate is a band I have been aware of for a long time but have never bothered to sample. I sampled a bit more online after watching this video so I am definitely going to go after them. I know the samples are a pain to put in but boy are they ever worth it! The Long Ryders didn't sound too bad either. Green on Red and the Connells were also totally new. As with all of your videos, I learn so much. By the way, if you want to respond, which you don't need to, you can just say 'Thank you.' I want to save you some time. 🙂🙂🙂

Thank you! :-) The samples do take time to import and then shrink down to 10 seconds or less, but it's nice to give everyone a little taste of a band's sound. My goal is for people to learn something new about these excellent subgenres that are sadly overlooked! Hope you have an awesome weekend!

One other artist who is one of my all-time favorites that never got his due. Jules Shear who's a long-time recording artist who wrote a ton of great, well-crafted tunes. He did 3 albums with his band Jules and The Polar Bears in the late 70s THe last one aptly called Bad for Business wasn't released until years later. He also recorded a number of superb solo records. He wrote a hit for the Bangles and Cyndi Lauper. If you haven't discovered yet, I highly recommend. Have a great weekend! Gary

Hey, love your channel and this particular topic is wonderful. I'm a big Robyn Hitchcock fan too! I'm writing to thank you for reminding me to listen to some of these bands. I pulled out a cassette mix tape I made in the early 80s that featured a number of Rain Parade and Long Ryder songs. I have to get these on vinyl again, having sold many of my albums in the past and am starting to recollect. Having been from Norfolk, I'm curious if you can recommend any Omaha record stores other than Homer's, which I used to visit often while in high school. Stay cool!

Hi Tim. I'm thrilled you stumbled on this series I did! I had a lot of fun with it! I bet that cassette mix tape you had is incredible! So, unfortunately Omaha lost 3 good record stores last year - Ear Wax, Almost Music, and the Drastic Plastic store. Drastic Plastic now exists on the upper level of the Monster Club, but the vinyl selection is very limited and they have been closed during COVID. There is a new store in the Old Market called Vinyl Cup. I recommend you stop by. it's a nice new store. Also check out Record Benders and 402 Vinyl, both in Bellevue. If you want to venture out a bit farther for a road trip, Sioux Falls, South Dakota has some pretty amazing stores...especially Total Drag! I wish Omaha had more...

Hi Hanna , Living in Los Angeles in the early 80's , I saw all these bands The Bangles , The Dream Syndicate , The Three O'clock , Green On Red , Rain Parade ... 16 Tambourines is my favorite by The Three O'clock with " A Day In Erotica " being the highlight along with the near hit " Jet Fighter " Opal put out the great Happy Nightmare Baby only to have singer Kendra bail mid tour. Her replacement , a teenager named Hope Sandoval ! Her & David decided to carry on as Mazzy 🌟. Fun Fact - Arthur Lee ✍ 5 string Serenade for Mazzy 🌟. In closing I used to date Gwynne from The Pandora's sister. Gwynne was dating Joe Nolte from The Last whose album " LA Explosion " is classic ! Seek it out on Bomp. As for her sister , she bailed on me for Tom Verlaine ! RIP Kim Shattuck. It was fun being young in Los Angeles in the 80's. All the best Hanna ! Shoegaze coming next 😎

Welcome Back Hanna, you've been missed :) you haven't missed a beat here, wonderful stuff on this paisley underground deep dive. It seems that 1981 was a helluva year over in California!! I haven't heard every band here but of the ones I have I'd line up with you on Emergency Third Rail Power Trip as the pick and highlight of the alumni. That said, I've not heard the Three O clock (lovely of Digital Gramophone to send it thru) and the Pandoras. That's a nice idea for the RSD comp of bands covering each other, something you don't see very often at all. If I find that dream syndicate or green on red I'll be grabbing them. I like you showing the kindred spirits of paisley underground with the Jazz Butcher and the Verlaines. It got me thinking - I used to lump bangs like the Church and the Stems in there, but I'd probably be happier now keeping Paisley underground to the US (LA even) from 81-86. But as you show, there's a lot of kindred spirits in 80s psychedelia... now there's another niche video!! Fantastic stuff here, really enjoyed. And an excellent thought to leave on - we are all having a weird year together, but supporting each other thru it will make it easier. have a great weekend Hanna, take care :)

Dean, hey there! 1981 was magic for this movement, for sure! The 80s as a whole had it going on for incredible music, right?! Cheers that you agree that Emergency Third Rail from Rain Parade is the standout album/winner! Hope you like the Three O'clock after giving them a sample. Michael's vocals can maybe take a bit of getting used to, but they were brilliant - especially those early offerings! 3x4 is a unique and worthy collaborative comp! Ah, you mentioned the Stems...didn't the leader of the group recently pass away? :-( Their stuff is pretty rare. 80s psychedelia - oh yeah, that would be another idea for a video! As my collection expands more, that's one I'm keeping in mind and if I ever carry through, you get the shoutout! Oh yes, kindness and respect goes a long way. Took you long enough!, but worth the wait. ;)
I got a lot of the Paisley Underground stuff when it first came out. You may think that makes me lucky, but it also makes me old! LOL
'Emergency Third Rail Power Trip' is my 2nd favourite PU album. The first is one of the inevitable recommendations you know are coming.
My absolute favourite PU album is The Dream Syndicate's second studio album - 'Medicine Show'. I absolutely adore that album, to the extent that I paid well over the odds for the first CD pressing after it was deleted. Of course, they remastered & reissued it not that long afterwards.
Another one you must find is an obscure covers album, called 'Rainy Day'. Rainy Day were a sort of PU supergroup, consisting of David Roback, Dennis Mehaffey, Karl Precoda, Kendra Smith, Matt Piucci, Michael Quercio, Steven Roback, Susanna Hoffs, Vicki Peterson & Will Glenn. Kendra Smith did the cover art, which brings it into Mazzy's latest thread.
They cover 'I'll Keep It With Mine', 'Flying On The Ground Is Wrong', 'Sloop John B.', 'Holocaust', 'I'll Be Your Mirror', 'Rainy Day, Dream Away' & others. I've always loved it.
You have an amazing talent for reminding me about UK bands I used to love that I'd all but forgotten. I need to go on a Woodentops hunt!
I await the Shoegaze update with great interest.

Isn't it frustrating to pay quite a bit for an album, only to have a reissue come out soon after?! I have done that!
Ah, you reminded me about 'Rainy Day.' I think Matt, a friend who comments on here from time to time, also brought them up to me but I just forgot about them! I need to give it a listen because those are choice songs to cover!
Hope you find the Woodentops! I'll be sampling the last album they recorded soon! Glad I was able to flip a switch about some of those brilliant UK bands, too! Shoegaze will be a fun video(s) to put together! Cheers!

Hi Hanna, enjoyed this a lot. Reminded me of the "good old days". Rain Parade's first 45 "What She's Done to Your Mind" b/w "Kaleidoscope" is great as is Salvation Army's first 45 "Mind garden.' Both heavily recommended. Annette Zalinskis, the first Bangles bassist, supplied the 4th of their 4 part harmonies. She later became lead vocalist for Blood on the Saddle. Also loved Annette's replacement Micki Steele who also had lead vocals from time to time. Saw the Pandoras live once. They were loud and fun. They also did an "original" song whose title escapes me but it was a rip off of "How Is The Air Up There" by the Changin' Times and La De Da's (New Zealand band). Anyway, good job and keep jangling.

living in so cal during the 80s all these bands were very talked about in the day ,and as youve shown they were all good ,i love that sound and for me dream syndicate really were an awesome band that really could have been from the mid to late sixties, that style of music also was a breakaway from what else was 80s popular, new wave, dance ect, problem for paisley underground they were part of a scene that had come and gone and with exceptions of a few bands, long ryders, bangles, that were able to break out with success,it was a scene that as you have shown deserved a better look and with time we can go back and found gems, so thanks for that im going to somehow get the rain parade album(your favorite), i passed on that so many times in 80s,but yeah i believe i need to change that , pandoras were great deserved much more success , most all female bands seem to kick ass and really rock without the hangups male bands have ego and jealousy issues, they may but its not as obvious , when they break up its usually a financial issue . another nice video ,that you did the work to put together for us, thanks, cheers and as you stay safe KTF.

Hi Harold! Great to hear from you. I find it fascinating how some of these bands may have started more garage-y or psych influenced but then morphed more into an Americana sound. Interesting to see a band's growth! Hope you are able to get a copy of Rain Parade's Emergency Third Rail Power Trip! What a stunning album! I agree with what you said about female bands kicking ass and not letting ego get to them as much as some male counterparts! Glad you enjoyed this installment! Enjoy the rest of your weekend! Cheers!

Hi Hanna - wow, Game Theory! I hadn't thought about them for a while. Their song "24" is so awesome. Oh man...I love Emergency Third Rail Power Trip too! I would like to get Explosions in the Glass Palace. Glad to see you have it. I love Crashing Dream too! That was the first Rain Parade album I heard when it came out. I saw the Bangles at La Fiesta street festival in San Antonio in 1985! Hoodoo Gurus also played...cool show. I have a fantastic Green on Red bootleg tape of live performances. I would offer to make you a copy but I think the recording side of my tape deck drags. Great looking copy of that Verlaines record...I've heard it but never had it. Those CD comps look awesome! I enjoyed the janglepop rundown Hanna! ~ Randy

Hey there, Randy! I haven't been too active in the "VC" as of late, so I apologize I haven't stopped by for your videos. Game Theory were a solid band. I recently picked up a Loud Family CD, which Scott Miller formed after Game Theory. Also a great band! Crashing Dream was my first listening experience and album I bought from the Rain Parade as well! Wow, the Bangles/Hoodoo Gurus on the same bill in '85! What a show that must have been! No worries on that Green on Red boot. Sweet of you to offer, though. I'm gonna get a new tape deck in the future. Mine bit the dust. Haha. The Verlaines are pretty hard to come by in the wild! I did a double take! So glad you stopped by! Later!
