The right technique would be to gently press down on the strings to touch the fingerboard. If the strings are raised much above the fingerboard it can be difficult to press down on them, in that case, you may need to reduce the height of the bridge.

I'm from a western classical background and I'm just learning about carnatic now. It looks so weird to me! I can't say which is easier or best because I have no knowledge of carnatic. But I can say that if you play one style for many many years, then try to learn the other, it will feel very very strange. It's different tuning for the strings too. Although, for a beginner, I'd say it would be difficult for you if you try to learn both almost simultaneously. Find a private teacher in one style, and ask them when they think you are ready to try the other.

I have to create pressure with fingure or not?
The right technique would be to gently press down on the strings to touch the fingerboard. If the strings are raised much above the fingerboard it can be difficult to press down on them, in that case, you may need to reduce the height of the bridge.

Can I know which is best for a beginner either Western or carnatic classical?
I'm from a western classical background and I'm just learning about carnatic now. It looks so weird to me! I can't say which is easier or best because I have no knowledge of carnatic. But I can say that if you play one style for many many years, then try to learn the other, it will feel very very strange. It's different tuning for the strings too. Although, for a beginner, I'd say it would be difficult for you if you try to learn both almost simultaneously. Find a private teacher in one style, and ask them when they think you are ready to try the other.
