I bought a 2005 sx230 about 5 years ago. It has been the best, most reliable, most versatile boat I've ever owned or operated. I absolutely stole it from a guy that had over filled the oil by 4 quarts per engine, and every time the engines started they smoked like they were on fire. I changed the oil, cleaned the air boxes, and put in high flow filters and it has not skipped a beat!
Thank you. I could not tell from the service manual how to get at the plugs. The manual made it look like the rocker arm cover would need to come off. I knew that was wrong and your video took me straight to the easy answer.
Hi. I have a 2009 AR230HO and it would always start right up without any issues at all. Both motors. I got stuck at the end end of last year because a boater was flagging me down so I stopped to see if they need help not paying attention to where I was. I sucked up some mud and ever since my starboard motor takes for ever to start up and stay running at idle and has a vibration. Flushed a lot and ran in river 3 times after the incident. It is garage kept and I’m wondering if you know anything that I could check? I pulled the jet pump and checked impeller and seems good. No trash or anything.
Wayne, I can’t think of anything specifically to check. If you haven’t checked out yamahajetboaters.com and jetboaters.net, I would highly recommend both of these sites. They are a treasure trove of knowledge. Good luck!
I just got a 2009 SX230 and I changed the plugs yesterday. My plugs looked like yours. They were black at the bottom of the plug threads for about 3/16" like your plugs. My question is do you think that is normal or maybe a sign of too high oil level in the tank. My oil level looks too high to me. It reads completely full even at cold temperature.

I think spark plugs look normal. As long as they aren’t oily, you should be fine.
How long of an extension was needed to go down the hole for the plugs? 6"?
I believe that is what I used.
What was your source for the type R plugs? I can find the Cr9EB but not the R. ????
Amazon. About $20 for 4.
