    I like the wings a lot, I just kinda think they'd look better on the top socket despite it not being "realistic" place to put them. The armor would get in the way of the flapping motion, but it makes more visual sense to my little brain.

    • @ModernSynthesist
      @ModernSynthesist  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I fully agree with you...even if the armour would be awkward.
      Then again, with the thing being this big, it lifting off at all may already require some suspension of disbelief!

    I like the wings, as for why it's in the midsection it makes perfect sense it's balanced because of the size of the creature too far forward you create drag = more work to stay aloft, too far back you are nose-diving, as for the talons the arms are pointing back so they can be moved out of the way when engaged in combat. A mantis is like this forward claws, Wing's midsection, and legs last.
    As for the hoves that's near zero effort to mod talons/claws.

      This is the first argument I've seen for middle section wings, and it's a damn good one. Thanks!

    i do wonder if this is a dual kit with a walking prime too, and they could not manage to have extended wings because they did not fitted within the sprue count for they kit, so they engineered a position for it to make sense to have them closed.

    • @flynnhammer5311
      @flynnhammer5311 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see what you mean, but with this most likely a mono-pose kit from the starter box, that model seems to be designed for that pose, but the their are loads of weapon options to give it without the wings

    • @blallocompany
      @blallocompany ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@flynnhammer5311 didn't the indomitus necrons warriors got later re-released with extra options? I indeed expect this model to be single pose in the starter box, but his design looks way too much like a walking prime, with its big torso, rather than a model conceived to be winged from the start. I think it will be released again after some moths in some kit with options.

    • @tylerblevins4083
      @tylerblevins4083 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think i know what you mean about the model- they interrupt the flow of the overall piece, in front of the leg and in the middle of the body. i think there's a way to put them in the middle 'socket' but this isn't quite it. i'll still take it though!

  • @NecroGoblin-yl2fx

    looks like the model will be so that he can be made as either walking or flying prime.

    • @milktenders6219
      @milktenders6219 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree, the pose is very neutral, and not committed to being flying. It also looks like the upper arm slots will be open for alternate weapons. But we also have to remember that the Indomitus box was all monopose with no options, so this might be too

    It looks really cool and I really like the wing pose, reminds me a lot of Pterosaurs and how they walked on their wings
    I can imagine this guy moving almost quadrupedally
    I think it'd be pretty easy to move the wings into the upper slot and move the weapon arms into the lower slot, but I prefer them the way it is

    • @matthewdenum2103

      I really like the pterosaur comparison. This model actually reminded me of a bat crawling around on the ground on its wings. Personally, I really dig this model but I'm afraid that all of these new sculpts are going to make the older stuff look comical by comparison (so many of the Tyranid kits already do, honestly).

    • @ModernSynthesist
      @ModernSynthesist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! You are right that the link to a pterosaur is really nice.

    • @ModernSynthesist
      @ModernSynthesist  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd disagree on the older kits looking that bad. A lot of them have stood up pretty well, and I love their modular nature and pose ability. If the new kits are similarly modular, you can breathe new life into the old ones by adding the new bits to the old ☺

  • @felis1977
    @felis1977 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My first thought when I saw it was "OMG! This is so cool!" My second thought was "where do I get the proper wings to convert it" ;)
    I also have another concern. This sculpt gives me a strong "limited Lictor from 2004(?) Tyranid army box" vibes. It might've been the crouching pose at first but there's more - very nice and dynamic pose but completely incompatible with the different weapon loadouts, suboptimal wings placement and some others. It looks like it might be a model specific to this box and I abhor limited edition minis. Of course it would mean we'll get a different, multipart plastic kit for a Prime later but this will make the preorder week that much more stressful for me.

    Looking at it here, I think if one were to clip the shoulder pads off, swap the left wing to the top right socket, and vice versa, it'd result in pinned back wings that are out of the way and actually work for the concept.

  • @ArynCrinn

    The new Terminator Librarian seems to have a gun option, based on the datasheet... so maybe this one comes with optional limbs to make a foot Prime?
    It would kind of explain why they posed it the way they did.

      @ArynCrinn ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ModernSynthesist His smite had two different profiles, but there was a non-specific "Combi-weapon" profile at the top of the list.
      I'm guessing that's what combi-weapons are going to be in 10th, especially in those Chaos Terminator or Space Marine veterans squads that spam them.

    As some already said i also think the wings on top maybe would look better just for and upright pose BUT if it were to land and fight they would have to fold back up behind it or else they would be in the way of the weapon arms. I guess the solution would be to have them mounted further back kind of like a dragon. Still really pleased but i would tinker with it i think 🤔

    I for one love this model BUT I will be turning it into a walking Prime. Mostly so I can take the wings and put them on a Parasite to have it in a “brooding Batman” style pose which will fit my dense rainforest basing scheme better. Not a lot of room to stretch your wings wide with all those trees around!

  • @chaosspawn5491
    @chaosspawn5491 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Personally I love how the wings look! It's weird and just feels really alien in a good way. I do understand that practically they might not be placed in the best spot but this is 40k after all so I tend not to view designs in that way.

    • @ModernSynthesist
      @ModernSynthesist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, you've got a point.
      And, to be clear, I think the wings look great! Just not in this configuration. I think the side view of the model from the 360 video is what most sells me on the wings.

  • @BlitzMekanika

    They put the wings on the bottom to match the trailer animation. Pause the trailer when the Prime is about to tear the marine apart. I will buy this and use the wings for a Tyranid in a stoop (dive bombing like a Peregrine Falcon )

      Well someone just discovered that if you reverse the arms, and put the left arm in the right socket, and the left arm in the right socket, the wings can fold up behind the prime in a pretty convincing manner!

  • @meinfuss1709
    @meinfuss1709 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Man, I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking the wings kinda suck. I also think this thing is posed like it's in the process of tripping. Warriors are bi-pedal, so having the one wing knuckle on the ground makes it look like it's trying to regain its balance. That said, model has potential.

    • @ModernSynthesist
      @ModernSynthesist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh indeed. Look at the wings form the side, and you might love them a while lot more. Particularly on a model wmthat is built to look more like a Wyvern!

  • @IshanDeston
    @IshanDeston ปีที่แล้ว +1

    SCNR: How to tell the difference between a Wyvern and a Dragon? A Dragon as 6 limbs, with a dedicated set of wings and 4 additional limbs (arms and legs usually). A Wyvern has 4 limbs with the Wings attached to the "arms". So in short, if it is "knuckle walking on the wings, its a Wyvern, not a Dragon." :D Again... Sorry :)

    • @ModernSynthesist
      @ModernSynthesist  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I'm wondering if a winged prime might not look better converted to look more wyvern 🤔
