Very good video and explanations. I just bought a 1972 C3 and the key got stuck in the run position. I could not even turn off the engine. The tumbler do not rotate backwards at all, only forward. I had to pull the leads from the distributor to make it stop. Do you think this could be a similar issue like yours, or a new lock cylinder would fix it?
It could be a stuck ignition switch (the one on the column under the dash), or the rod that actuates the ignition switch when you turn the tumbler to start the vehicle. If both are ok, you may need a new tumbler. 😊👍🏻

They will be able to tell you which one will work perfectly for your Vette. Thank you! From Off to Start, yes. The only “resistance” would be from Off to Acc where you need to push the key and tumbler in a bit so you don’t go into Acc by accident every time you turn the car off. Hope that makes sense. 😊👍🏻
I'm working on a 74 454 4 speed car that doesnt have keys. I can not seem to be to push that pin in and release the cylinder. The metal handle part actually broke off unfortunately. Any help would be massively appreciated.
Yes, it can be tricky since the tumbler pin sort of rocks and keeps it from releasing. This makes removal even more challenging. The best solution is to try to find a flat piece of metal just wide and big enough to hopefully help you evenly push so you can release the tumbler from the column. If the tumbler ears are broken, you will have to use a large enough screwdriver to help pry the tumbler out. It does not require a lot of force as you can easily chip or break column parts, but a great amount of patience is indispensable. I’d also spray PB Blaster or a similar penetrant fluid to help the process. Good luck. 😊👍🏻
@@76vettehow did you remove the entire assembly? I removed those bolts but couldn't seem to separate it from the rest of the column. Would a steering wheel puller do the job?
@@adammcclellan9658 To be able to reach the release pin you will need to remove the steering wheel and the turn signal switch (or at least pull it out of the way). Otherwise I don’t think you can get the job done.

Any Corvette parts vendor should have those available. It's a GM part so it may fit many other car/truck models also. Dorman probably makes the replacement parts so even O'Reilly, AutoZone, NAPA would carry them. Check with Eckler's, ZIP Corvette, etc. Here's another, for example: bit.ly/3zFLkNd You will need to specify the year and whether yours is a standard or T&T column. Apparently, it makes a difference.
