I am just starting this job with a Sierra 1 piece replacement similar to yours. Thanks for the video! I assume that you have to staple the replacement? What kind of staple gun did you use? Do you think it is worth removing the back seat to remove the rear staples?
Hi Adrienne, thank you for posting this video. I am in the middle of this same job, same top from Amazon, 2004 Chrysler. I watch where you take the rivet off from the top which holds the wire spring in place. And I watched you pop the rivet back in. Mine is stuck. Should I force the rivet out and won't that break it? Also my top is like three inches too short to cover the front. I was thinking I could open the top, giving me plenty of slack and staple it in the proper place. Any advice?
Oh my goodness- yes, install with the top half open- then there is plenty of fabric to cover. As far as the front rivets, I must confess. One was already broken and I used a small self tapping screw in the existing hole. It worked so well, that repeated the process on the other side.
One more thing, please. Do we have to remove the rivets or can I just pull the fabric over it and not try and replace the underlying small piece of fabric that is under the rivets?
How much did you pay for your top? And what’s the difference going from glass to plastic rear window ? Is plastic easier to install then glass? Thank you, that’s an excellent video
I think it was about $174 for the one piece, vs about $ 380 for the two. Cost and ease were the biggest factors, since the car is rusting out. One of the disadvantages to the plastic window is that when the light hits it a certain way, it's almost impossible to see through. Especially if there is condensation on it. Plus, you loose your rear defrost function. My rear defrost didn't work before I switched tops, so nothing really lost there.
Adrienne Boutillier hi, sorry to keep bothering, I just got my top and I have a quick question, do you have to staple the top back and if so what kind of stapler did you use? Thank you
Thanks. We're starting this project tomorrow. Fingers crossed and appreciate the video.
I have one of these to do Eventually I had no idea that you could do it without taking out the headliner that’s awesome
That cable is easier to get out if you drop the top about halfway.

I used an upholstery stapler and I had enough room to do the job without removing the back seat. I am not petite.
I’m thinking of just ripping out all the roof gear and putting in a roll bar and just taking it out on sunny days

Adrienne Boutillier hey thanks for your prompt response, I’m gonna try to do it myself, it’s a 2003, any particular brand that you recommend?
This was purchased from Amazon $189.00
Adrienne Boutillier cool, I just ordered it, should get it next week. Thank you
