This is another great example of how good the music was in this time period. These long-haired mountain boys were good. Very creative and tight.. A darn good band! Fun music with good sprirt. AND they were fun....
Tight, indeed ! All these 70s bands sounded AMAZING live. In fact, the records were just a recording of what they already were doing live; not something patched together in ProTools by a producer, today.
RIP Steve Cash. I was fortunate enough to share the same stage as him at festivals several times and he was always super nice to us "young-uns"... This is an awesome song - I will never cease to smile when I hear it come on the radio! I think you got to heaven there buddy!
When I moved to Rogers, AR in 1991, the area of Springfield and points further south were just 100 miles from us and we went there a lot. We loved going down there and spending the weekend.
octogenarian here and this is on my list of my 50 favorite classic rock tunes...........it has been one of the mantras of my lifestyle. and i did my share without harming any one. life's been good.
@@tomchrisfield7348 : Your response made me laugh 😆😆I’m assuming you’re very young as was I when this song came out. It’s ok , I don’t mind listening to “weird” 😆😆🤣 “Enter an alley “? Nah, you probably already have the best spot taken
Rip : Steve Cash (May 5 1946 - October 14 2019) An original & founding member who co-wrote thier two biggest hits, this one, thier first hit at No 25 in 1974 and 'Jackie Blue' at No 3 in 1975
When you learn about old-school country and blues music, you can really hear where the harmonica and guitar and honky tonk piano came from. Add drums, plug in the guitar and bass, and you’ve got this glorious Southern Rock !
I saw them in Houston many years ago. They put on a great show. I was surprised they didnt become as well-known as some of the other bands of their time. They certainly were as good as at lot of them who were better known.
Seen Head East for $2.00 in Centralia, Illinois at the Teen Center 52 years ago. "Supe" gave us a ride to the the Venice Cafe. He was gonna sit in with the Garbonzo Band. Supe was sitting in with Bill Davis of Dash Rip Rock at the B.O.B.
Same Man, I'm 20, though. But I live in Missouri, and the Ozarks, too, and they formed the band super super close where i live. And there a awesome band. They sure don't make good music like this anymore. I'm "oldschool" but I'm gonna get a harmonica soon to learn just this specific song. I love it that much. I'm a guitar player. And still want to be. Thats my main thing is guitar. But I do want to learn how to play the harmonica just for this song. 😂😅
I was born in 65 I thank Christ I was able to experience the greatest music ever from the 60s 70s and 80s Life was good in those decades...Rock on people
You don't have any awareness of, or respect for, the originals who came before - and they're right in front of you! People like you are exactly why older people think young people are stupid.
I was lucky enough to see these guys at the Illinois State Fair, playing in the Stroh's Beer Tent for about 75 of us back in the late '80s. They're gave 150%! True professionals.
My second all-time favorite band, second only to the Dead. These guys very nicely straddled the line between pure hard rockin' and soulful country/folk rock. Other bands occasionally exceeded them (e.g. Pure Prairie League's Amie) but absolutely nobody delivered as well and as consistently as OMD. This particular song I hear almost every day as it's part of my iTunes shower rotation.
1978 or 79 I saw them in Rapid City, S.D.. Opening were two guys on banjos playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown. I was hooked on Bluegrass and Country rock and roll ever since.
I had this track on a "Southern Country Rock" compilation cassette tape I bought at Walmart back in the early 90s. I liked this song. I'm going to explore their other discography now here on TH-cam. The band members they all look like daredevils!
Anyone else ever see them at The Great northern Bluegrass Festival Mole Lake, Wisconsin?! during the 10 year period i went I've seen them at least 20 times plus other venues. Partied with them at Blister Sisters Cantina! The crowd would explode when they played this song! "Mole Lake, Mole Lake, Mole F-N Lake! great guys and great musicians!
I believe there may be a silver lining if the world don't get blowed up for young people of all ages and Sexes to understand the Melodies of the 60s and 70s and how they changed the pop culture back then? There is plenty of opportunity to understand and create
Funny thing is,I have heard all these old classic songs for years but it's only now, thanks to posts on TH-cam that I see them for the first time. Bands didn't make many videos back then until MTV started .
I was 18 and myself and 2 friends went to our local watering hole ,well I went to the jukebox and put in 4 quarters and pressed H-8 16 times 4 songs per quater ,If you want to get the Heave , By O.M.D.s and let play . The Bar Tender and Owner caught on after around 6 repeats . He ask me want the hell did you do. I said I like this song and laughed .He let it play maybe 1 more time and the unpluged the jukebox , That's just too much of a good thing he said , We all had a good laugh . I will always remember that day,and I think of that day all those years ago every time I hear this Great Song .
Most people today have no idea of how great the music was in the 60’s and 70’s ✌🏽
true but who care's? I don't need to impress someone who thinks rhianna is old school and can't go 5 minutes without consulting the phone.
Atta Boy.
You are so right. When you hear some of the music today. It makes a person realize just how great the music from the 60s and 70s. Was and still is.
The golden era of music.
I remind people all the time that they are listening to music that is 50 years old...
Note the audience is clapping in time and enjoying the music. Not a phone in sight. That’s how you enjoy live music!
No fireworks, no smoke machines, no leaping around. Just music.
They didn't exist

I was in High School when this song hit the airwaves.... Man, what a blast from the past !!!!
I was a high school senior smoking blunts in my family's basement when this first aired.
That's what memories are about.
After being a Smokejumper for 24 years and seeing hell. Thanks Ozark. You all made us get to heaven.😁 Peace brothers
And don't forget Marshall Tucker Band Fire on the Mountain. Retired USFS Here. Thanks for your service.
Thank you for your service brother. I was firefighter 🎉and paramedic for 22yrs I know how you feel
Thank you too. It's all teamwork dude no matter what you always got your brothers back. No matter what Thanks

Sadly, the radio never plays this great song.
😂❤good time 70s music. Southern Rock was it's own music genre back then...❤
This band was so unique and far ahead of the pack.
Having grown up in southern Missouri, I’ve had the opportunity to see this band several times; they’ve always been one of my favorites
Jim S. Buffalo Mo, late fifties till drafted in 69.

I first came across this song in GTA5, instantly loved it and it's remained a favourite since.
I love OzarkMountain DareDevils great rock and roll ❤❤
jeez I was blowing my ears to the ozarks in the 70s still as good today.
I dont care what you say, this is Bad ass!
I saw the Ozark Mountain Daredevils as part of a day long festival with the Doobie Brothers , Chicago headlined . Great show !!
This song is still one of my all time favorites. I still listen to it.
Living proof 70's music was the best.if I stepped on any toes, you shoulda been there
This song has one of those hooks you could listen to over and over and over again.
“Thank You for Listening to us.” 40 years later its Still a blast.
Most southern song ever !!!Love this song also before GTA 5 ! I'd love to listen to this when cruising in a big Dodge pickup !! Oh yeah
Yay!!!
Springfield,Missouri music!
🎸🎶🎵🍺😎😁
"If you wanna see an Angel you got to find it where it fell."
She fell
My favorite verse in the song.
That harmonica player, (Steve Cash ?), the level of concentration on this tune is amazing.
Damn this was a great era to be a teenager listening to quality music, back when talent counted and great music meant something.
Yes I was very young but always loved this tune good to stumble upon and yes talent was different....back then all the way back !!!!!!!!
Spectacularly different, and yet oddly the same… a triumph

How humble can ya get, them thankin us for listenin. I'll be thankin ya'll for a lifetime of magic. Thank you
I keep coming back to this song. So darn good.

Aint nothin like Southern Rock and the Hair Bands of the 80's

So awesome! These guys would fit right in today between Blackberry Smoke, the Jawhawks, and WILCO. Great stuff!!
What do you mean by OMD would fit right in, hell its more like they would fit right in with OMD!!!

Thanks to OMD
Only knew this song from Hank Jr., glad to stumble upon this! Awesome band.
Born in 1947 and still have the original album. Play it often. Saw them live in Amarillo, Tx. Great band!
First heard this song on Xbox last fm 2010. And then on GTA 5. Fantastic song 👍❤️
Excellent song from the Awesome 70's
That’s some awesome rock and roll.
saw them 70's, great show at Dorton Arena
1978 or 79 I saw them in Rapid City, S.D.. Opening were two guys on banjos playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown. I was hooked on Bluegrass and Country rock and roll ever since.
I never read it in a book, I never saw it on a show
But I heard it in the alley on a weird radio
If you want a drink of water, you got to get it from a well
If you want to get to Heaven, you got to raise a little hell
I never felt it in my feet, I've never felt it in my soul
But I heard it the alley, now it's in my rock and roll
If you want to know a secret, you got to promise not to tell
If you want to get to Heaven, you got to raise a little hell
I never thought it'd be so easy, I never thought it'd be so fun
But I heard it in the alley, now I've got it on the run
If you want to see an angel, you got to find it where it fell
If you want to get to Heaven, you got to raise a little hell
If you want to get to Heaven
If you want to get to Heaven
If you want to get to Heaven
If you want to get to Heaven

wow. that harmonica .. I cannot believe how tight they were amazing..playing yes I am back listening to it again..
Have you ever noticed that John Dillon can't sing it well. As you heard in this video, Randle is singing very well.
Amen brother Ozark mountain daredevils kick ass
I'm moved. I guess the country in my soul ...
This was taken from Don Kirshners Rock Concert, I watched it live when it aired. Wish we could see the rest of that show.
watched it every friday nites for years
Lots of great groups on that show.
And it was live. Well at least it's not the studio version the harmonica is slightly different. Not positive about live or not.
Just saw the whole set here on TH-cam
