As a tv writer, I've studied Cheers. Deconstructed many, many of their episodes. Besides the writing being the best in the business -- Ted Danson is one of the BEST, if not THE best comedy actor I've ever witnessed on screen. His work in The Good Place shows how he's stood the test of time. His timing, vulnerabilities, ease with his body, brave choices and whatever magical charisma the universe gave him - THE BEST.
Right. As an astronaut, I get great inspiration too. it helps me when I am doing astronaut things. Also, as a film director, it also helps me study and deconstruct the episodes to help me direct some of my actors... like Bob De Niro. Now, as a world class Olympic champion, I find the show to be very very funny.
For me it's Bea Arthur but loved Cheers growing up. Ted is undoubtedly elite and he was brilliant as a regular on Curb where like every character on Curb I would wait for the moment where he would lose his patience with Larry
As a huge fan of Cheers myself, this is possibly the best interview I've ever watched/listened to with Will Arnett. Also love that it's available to to watch in it's entirety, not just to listen. Wishing a lot of luck with this podcast with hopefully many, many more episodes to come.
Okay I am a certified Cheers nut, and I am so jazzed about this. When I start talking about this show people give me a look like "dude it was a comedy about a bar." Like no, it was so much more. It was in a lot of ways a master class in character driven writing. It's a show about so many sad and difficult things that put these people in the same room together. Sam, a recovering alcoholic living beyond his moment and overcoming addiction in a bar of all places, who loves deeply and tries very hard not to show it through a facade of bravado, trying to decide if he's the playboy of his baseball days or the scary hidden things in his heart. Coach, a selfless and simple man who would do anything for Sam because he knows his heart. Carla, living through a broken marriage and single motherhood, tough as nails. Cliff, who just wants to be loved and escape the orbit of his mother from time to time. Norm, a nobody accountant who is a god in Cheers, who tells jokes about his wife to earn points with the crowd, but who has always loved her deeply--just doesn't know how to show it most of the time. Dianne, a naive student who sees something in Sam, fights for him, until finally, he fights for her. Man, look at where actors like Ted and Woody have gone from there. They were amazing character actors playing amazing characters, and they deserve the success they've had.
I am rewatching it for the first time in decades. It's a spectacular show. Fantastic writing. Fantastic casting. Brilliant acting and character relationship development. Risking sounding like a curmudgeon, it's why shows were so much better in the 80s-90s. They had to be good to stay on the air. They had to have good characters with good acting and writing. Especially if you run for 11 years.
Cheers was unique for the time in that it was using actual film instead of videotape. A much more expensive filming process, but clearly paid off. If you watch another show from that era, even higher budget shows, they are often filmed with video tape and look much worse in comparison.
@@nuncapasaran9374 That might be one of the best descriptions of what Cheers represents for people and why people loved and related to the show so much! Absolutely fantastic, could not have worded that better myself! I'm 37, about to be 38 and I would watch the reruns around age 9-10 with my aunt, and it was her favorite show and she introduced me to it, and I recently got to rewatch every season a few years ago when it was on Netflix and I enjoyed it even more because I hadn't seen it since I was like 15 so it was like seeing it for the first time again, there was so much I'd forgotten that I was blown away by how great and fun it was! 🙂✌️💚
What’s funny about Will getting the part in Arrested over Rainn Wilson is that if Rainn had gotten that he wouldn’t have been available for The Office a couple years later. The universe works in mysterious ways
Turns my stomach to think of Rainn as Job. I'm sure it would have been good in a different way, I do love that guy, but it's an alternate timeline my brain can't handle! Also Will was sorta the wild card of wild cards in that cast that realllllly threw it over the top.
I fricking love Conan's trajectory! Going from a TV writer to a Late-Night Star to a Podcasting Empire. We hear the term failing upwards, but have we considered the idea of succeeding backwards!
He is truly the peoples genius. He does what he knows has value with his own risk. Never settles and turns every ending into a greater beginning. He’s been my comedic hero since the 90s and made feel pretty good about it to this day. He is so humble and does small shows too . Still got it
I am honestly kind of amazed at how this came out of nowhere and it's this amazing gem. I'm so, so glad that Mr. Danson and Mr. Harrelson decided to do this.
Will Arnett singing the "Albania" song hit home heavy. My girlfriend and I will sing that whenever the Ice Cream man drives around the neighborhood. Coach forever man.

Ted and Woody, that your podcast is immediately successful is very simple: you both are not just great in your profession but, as much as a member of the general public like me can know, you are great people. Just be you, and the only thing that could possibly fail would be the perceptions of a dullard audience.❤
