An animated video showing a string vibrating and nodes, showing two strings vibrating in unison and then as a perfect fifth and an octave, makes a great visual aid! I also use a tuner that has a meter that moves back and forth to show the slightest increases and decreases in pitch. I help students to explore every aspect of unison pitches - open string and a second finger on the string below or an open string and the third finger on the string above that open string. And the visualization of beats vs no beats. I stress that extreme soft, quiet, and slow playing is critical. Many students, even myself, are right brained and need visual aids to better help in understanding.
