- In this episode, Kyle and Maggie head out on an exploratory mission to find early August salmon in the Great Lakes tributaries. Come along with us as we head out on an awesome adventure and share some tips that will help you LEGALLY CATCH RIVER SALMON. RIVER FISHING FOR KING SALMON is one of our favorite styles of fishing and we're looking forward to a long season of river fishing ahead!

Nice footage. Went 1 for 2 on steelhead. I heard kings don't bite the sacs. Pretty sure i saw you throwing them.
Beads, sacs, skein, cranks, spinners… they love ‘em all at different times. We’ll try to keep showing other baits that work well in our videos. It’s just tough making time to film during the guide season.
@@AdventureChasing another amazing vid, can't wait to get up there and get after them! I didn't get any hens last year and I'm out of skein/real eggs. Would sacs of balls of fire under a float work or should I concentrate on my spinner/thunderstick game this year if I can't score some real eggs? Not going to get time off til late September unfortunately.
@@jeremykenward3082 I would personally stick with spinners and thundersticks until I got some skeins! You may be able to get them to bite fake eggs, you never know. I would borax the heck out of them if you do though!

Great videos Kyle and Maggie! So awesome to watch! I recently took a trip with Bob and Quinn, great guides..I asked them what knots you dudes use..he said fisherman's knot..have you ever considered Palomar knot...hated to see the line break that many times!
Thank you👍 we just tie the the clinch knot(or fisherman’s) most of the time and never have knot failures. The fish that broke the line in this video got us into the wood and frayed the line up mid way into the leader.

Planned a long weekend in mid September to hit the rivers up that way as I did growing up in Michigan. You are exactly correct about the north wind. We had a cold front in mid summer one year and the wind blew hard for three days out of the north. On a hunch I went to Harrisville harbor on lake huron and was the only one there. Except several thousand salmon that loaded the bay there. Was a absolute slug fest until I had to head back down home in Owosso.
Those are special trips!! The best memories are made out of ones like that👊
@@AdventureChasing back in the day, (probably before you were born) myself and a friend pioneered many techniques used today as though they were just invented. We were the first I know of to use styrofoam floats to our bags cutting up small bits of coffee cups to float our spawn bags. People swore we were snagging fish and we just laughed. If they only knew.
As I mentioned earlier, the day I was fishing Harrisville harbor, I caught all my kings, (more then 25) using a very simple lure. The glow in the dark little Cleo. For years I slayed them on that spoon and no one fished it

Thanks man! We’re using fresh salmon eggs tied in spawn netting. I just sprinkled a little borax on the eggs and then tied them up in netting👍

I fished all day yesterday and found 1 hole with a ton of kings but they were all on bottom and wouldn’t bite

nice catch! can you tell me what bait you used? in my place it is impossible to fish with part of the body in the water, because predators water always lurking (crocodiles)
We used fresh salmon spawn and tied it in netting👍

Just a silly question, are you using braid for mainline on your cp reel? How does it compare to monofilament?
Yes, using braid. Have to have it for river kings IMO. You’ll loose tons of fish and gear on fish that get into the log jams with mono
