You should do like a one man brass band video, like your "all instruments in a brass band video" however they're all edited and put together so you play a song with all the parts does that make sense? I have a European-style rotary-valve Baritone horn made in the USSR around 1961. It's plated, not in silver... but in Nickel. The sound it produces is just astonishing, and thankfully the valves all work well (albeit a bit clunky). The sound rivals an English-style Euphonium, even though the bore is smaller. I love it! You can find them on Ebay pretty cheap- about 75 USD. Mine was cheaper (50 USD) because it's dented up and it had a small bolt lodged in the 3rd valve tubing... took out the 3rd valve slide, blew hard, and it came shooting out!
Hey I just got this cornet for my collection of trumpet and cornets that I have. The one I just got is from 1985 and the valve caps are red😂. Mine is also not lacquered and the 3rd valve is letting me down too😂

Sounds like this instrument is meant to take something resembling a German shank Flugelhorn mouthpiece of the somewhat shallow variety. (Or just use a crappy 6M or 6V.) It's definitely not liking that Trumpet mouthpiece very much. My experience with Soviet instruments is that the primary design choice is to be loud as hell, everything else is secondary, and quality is last. That's not to say that they necessarily sound bad or have bad intonation, because they don't. It is to say that they are low quality and might require some extremely tasteless repairs to maintain. A bit of filing on the third valve linkage to give it more space to slip would probably work if you don't value the nickle plating. It has to have room to wobble on the screw that attaches it to the rotor.
Bought one of these. 1) Don't buy one of these. All 3 rotors turn the wrong direction! 2) This model is Ukrainian, not Russian. The brand is Орфей, which is usually translated to Orpheus. 3) Yes, it takes a 10mm shank mouthpiece. The stock mouthpiece isn't horrible, but I've spoiled myself beyond being able to tolerate it for long. It's 80mm long instead of 70mm, and the cup is typical of European Cornet mouthpieces. My suggestion of 6M or 6V was actually spot on. If you want a GOOD mouthpiece for this, better get ready to pony up, because it will cost more than the horn. $$$ 4) Like most Soviet instruments, the build quality is trash, but it can play really well with great intonation if you do your part. The tone is pretty brash for what most people expect from a Cornet, but that's what having such a big leadpipe does for you. All in all, it would be one of the best budget Cornets ever if the rotors weren't constantly ruining your articulation.
When I was at Northwestern, Charlie Geyer once showed me a side action rotary valve cornet that he was trying to sell that had once belonged to Vince Cichowicz. It too took a trumpet mouthpiece, and the only marking on it was the word ЛЕНИНГРАД (Leningrad) on the bell. The horn had a really cool sound, and I wish I'd had the money for it.

BTW: Nice cornet playing. Do you have brass band experience? That vibrato totally reminded me of the time when I played in a brass band. I used to hate vibrato and now I love to apply it on the trumpet, at least a little here and there
Amazing :D I was first introduced to Brass Bands when we watched "Brassed Off" (great movie) at school and then later the piece was performed at the theatre here in my city. They formed a Brass Band with a few professional muscians and many other interested people. Actually there are quite a few people from England, as well. I've seen numbers and there are probably like 20 000 bands in GB while there are more like 20 in Germany. I played cornet for a year, I'd love to play again, but I don't really know if I can make it and do all the practising required for playing Solo Cornet :D . How well does it work to play soprano cornet and bass trombone? Last time I checked playing trombone felt super weird on my lips. However I've heard trumpet players that said they really like to play Euphonium and perform trumpet concertos on that instrument (transposed by an octave) and it even helps them in the high register :)

I just acquired this exact horn for my collection, except in silver lacquer. The owner thought it was from 1973, but I couldn't find any info but a small blurb in Russian inscribed on the inside of the case. These cornets came out of Korostyshiv, Ukraine. Not that it matters, but those dotted quaver - semi quaver rythmns were rather interesting (ie: wrong). Otherwise interesting video, nice to see something a bit different! (I know the feeling on the raw brass, playing a prototype at the moment which is unplated, love the instrument but hate the lack of finish).

Don't buy expensive beginner horns. They're a scam. Learn how to play on a cheap ass used horn, and get as good as you can on that. Then it'll be time to get a professional horn. So you should have a beginner horn for about 2-4 years before upgrading.
Can you make a video on how to hit the third octive on a Bb trumpet? I'm in advanced 8th grade band and I'm the only trumpet and I need to hit the high notes but it seems impossible
The third octave is something you have to work to get. You just have to practice and develop your aperture to play and hit those high notes reliably and accurately. This is what my private teacher told me when i started on trumpet a couple years ago i found it helped me to get it. Good luck on your playing!
INFINITE AMOUNTS OF LIP SLURS seriously do lip slurs in higher registers EVERY day for about 5 minutes before you practice and in no time you'll find it is a lot easier to hit high notes.... or you could just sing the high notes through your trumpet and hope nobody notices. either one works!
Hi, I enjoy you r channel very much! One thing I would like to say/ask: My teacher learns me not to use the middle part of my fingers on the valves but the tops of my fingers, yet you seem to use the middle part of your finger without any problem does this not apprehend you in anyway?
raw finish = wax it with a high Carnuba wax. This line was recommended by a friend on the Trombone Forum www.mothers.com/02_products/05550-05750.html#&slider1=9. There's an English brand, the name evades me, that you might find. look for 100% Carnuba for durability. That bell joint sounds unseemly
He's done a review on the soprano trombone before. And yes, it is a soprano trombone. Not a slide trumpet. He also has a video explaining the reasoning behind that naming scheme.
