    You can place a rag in a neodymium magnet on the inside of you container and guide it around with another neodymium magnet on the outside of the container to clean.Thank You for your videos very informative.

    Might I suggest a fish dehooker for placing rocks or other object in specific locations, or even after you drop your seedling in the fish dehooker is perfect to grasp gently and move around. The neck and gripper plenty narrow to fit through the opening of the bottle and squeeze gentle enough as to not damage the plant... 👍🏻

    Newspaper would fall apart easily if anything you drop in is wet. You can try using a magazine cover to make a funnel, and pour the soil in the glossy side since it would withstand moisture better. :)

    We did this in our earth science class in HS. It was a test for us. We were given the list and had to provide our own plant and guesstimate the water amount. If we were right, our plant would thrive and we passed. If we guessed wrong then it died and we failed. I was so nervous but thrilled to find out my team did it correctly and it was so much fun. Think i'll do some of these in smaller containers around my house ^_^

    It would be so much easier if you use two magnets. One on the inside on the back of the paper and one on the outside to guide the internal magnet across the glass wiping the glass as you go.

    i think a canning funnel would be good when putting rocks and soil in,also if no sticks a thin in diameter wooden dowels would work plus a sea food fork would come in handy for moving rocks /soil in addition to one with spoon,just wish more things came in glass jugs like they use to and would be handy to use.

    Thanks nice to watch Question: why don't you seal the top like the guy who hasn't watered his bottled plant in fourty years? I thought that creates mini climatic system? Can I suggest glass Turkey baster for adding water or any thin long clear plastic pipe. Dip into water, close end with your thumb and then release inside the bottle. Repeat if needed and no sticky walls. Japanese and Chinese shops sell extra long chop sticks and they have rugged ends easy to hold on to a plant.

    • @TheStoneSpiral
      @TheStoneSpiral 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He got a little lucky with how well his experiment worked out in all honesty because too much water and mold would have killed the plant, too little and it wouldn't have been able to create the cycling of the water on its own. But, that being said, the larger the starting bottle the longer it can live closed off, eventually even in that large bottle the plant will lose balance simply due to the slow grind of entropy and it will die without outside help. Finding that right balance is harder in a small bottle like a gallon cider jug and easier in large ones like his.

    Is there a reason your funnel is 18 inches tall?? Seems inconvenient to say the least! You can buy funnels at an auto parts store with really long ends to point the water where you need it, and they have different widths. Much, much more practical then parchment paper!

    i really need help and cant seem to find anything from google searches. i have a terrarium plant, its a Gold Dust plant and has been in the terrarium for about 5 years now. i knew nothing about this plant when i got it, it was a thing for science class where we were all given different plants to put in a bottle terrarium. after planting it i just sorta forgot about it, set it on my desk where its been since then, heavily watered low quality soil with rocks on the bottom. its starting to get brown patches on the stem and the stem near the soil is really brown now. i pruned some dead and spotted leaves off today, drained the water out of the bottom and took the top off. my question is, can i save this plant? what can i do to prevent the possible root rot or stem rot from getting worse? i want to replant it in a slightly bigger pot but dont want it to die of shock, maybe i could just leave the top off of it for a while (how long?) and then replant it? i know gold dust is a hardy plant but can it survive this? any advice is highly appreciated.

    • @kerrimorris5025
      @kerrimorris5025 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not an expert but I garden a lot and have dealt with root rot. Mold on leaves either to much water and bad drainage and mix of good soil, rocks, and don't over water or you get root rot, also container tl small, you have to cut back, teat rot, good soil drainage use gravel and gloves don't handle plant a lot. I would put it in basement where cooler dry, like over wintering, exactly. watch carefully and get any molded leaves off. Plant needs a break! See good new growth you are ahead, always talk to professional! I would either cut new starters, put in rooting powder, and use cardboard like seedling cont. Don't over water, if plant has longer stems place stem in different pot to get start up, should grow small roots, again I always use rooting for powder? I also would try the dish soap misting with water mix in case do have mites ot other critters before repot. Look up, but think its 1pt to 3pts water and get under leaves,, used for roses but I use it a problem with most, it won't harm plants if you never used. Afids, plabt small peice of potato in pot at edge. Most hate this and potato plant will grow can cut baack or it gives your plant fullness. I may not be a pro but I'd try some of these ideas if hardy or not u may need to rcot newbies if u can . may not have helped cuz there are smarter gardeners then I. But I've been successful with these tips and more? Good luck, I have lost some older, hardy plants I wanted to cry over, give proper burial with a headstone, joking but crazy enough ! Take care

    • @cerulean22b69
      @cerulean22b69 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kerri Morris thanks for the advice. Since this comment actually though it lost all of its leaves :( but I'm not giving up on it. I cut some little stems and dusted them with rooting powder as you have suggested here. They aren't growing yet but I just have to wait and see. As for the stem, it's still green and it seems as if there is a tiny bit of growth at the top. It's naturally a slow growing plant so only time will tell. I have it in a well lit area but no direct sunlight (which is bad for this kind of plant) but yeah i repotted it or what was left of it and am just giving it lots of TLC.
      Pretty much the top of the stem where I cut is getting smaller and more narrow. Not sure if it's withering or repairing itself I hope it's the latter. What do you think?

    • @kerrimorris5025
      @kerrimorris5025 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheEmberSeeker I really hope you can save this? Why, I know how it feels to keep that special plant (s) and still feel like a failure, which u really shouldn't. I spoke about putting the plant to rest for a while, that may or may not work I'm hoping it would? I say this because plants have life cycles to and I didn't know if anyone attempted to help you? Others may be better telling you a few things, but it sounds like you are trying everything I suggested. I will try to find more info on this plant where I am, but you are doing a lot to save this plant, it's like losing a long time friend? Not lost now, have you prayed to the plant gods? Yes, I believe I've gone that far, like going over the edge and it's a plant, but...
      You take care and good luck, talk to anyone you can, the older generations sometimes have crazy but great advice? They love to share or won't give away their secrets, I'd certainly ask.

    • @kerrimorris5025
      @kerrimorris5025 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TheEmberSeeker Are there little nodular bumps on the stem? If so that is where it may take root? Unless that's exactly what you did? I believe you know what you are doing. Take care!

    • @cerulean22b69
      @cerulean22b69 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Kerri Morris I don't think praying for plants is crazy :) I believe in one God though but yeah I think it's fine to pray for not only people and pets but plants since all these are living things he created. That's just my thought on that.
      On the cutting I took out (probably shouldn't have done that but I figured since I have three I might as well take a look at one of them). at the bottom there is a bit of a white bulge so I think roots may start to form. After looking at it I put it back in the soil so I'm sure it will be fine. The main plant is still green and the top seems to be getting narrow and on one side it's sticking up a bit, I think it's repairing itself. It may not be but I'm hopeful, but if it dies I will just get another and try again. At least this time I will know what I'm doing and won't suffocate it like I did this one. Thank you for your help. I'm going to take it to a local nursery and let them see it maybe they will know what could help as well.
