I learned a lot from this video! Thanks for sharing how cognizant we have to be about our horses’ experiences and how easily a bad one can get lodged in with the memory of many good ones. Hearing about all the signs you saw leading up to it, and then how you fixed it later, was really helpful too.
The rider kept their cool. He is an absolutely beautiful horse. My daughter is on an equestrian team and is in love. I have started taking lessons so that I am familiar with what she is doing/talking about. I am such a nervous rider. Seeing the video where the rider kept their cool, and the horse did not kill the rider (ha ha) is great for a novice like me to watch. My daughter and I love your videos.
Thank you so much for sharing your disappointment and your thinking of why it happened and how to go forward with fixing. So very inspiring for every level of riding and discipline!
I think it's so important for people to realize you need to revisit these things on a occasional basis even if a horse is good with it and as we know the amygdala triggers the fear and the memory. was The music and the base plus the natural tension that is there... I think it's very big of you to admit that you made a mistake in not doing damage control.
Thank you so much for this video, I watched it via FEI TV and my heart sank for you both. I saw you in the stands behind the arena and I could see how upset you looked. I am learning Dressage on my coming 7 year old Arabian (who is also learning) and we've had many tests where things happened in warm up or someone opened the electric gate during my test and my horse nearly flew out from under me. They are horses after all, not machines. I think people forget even these very experienced FEI horses can have a bad experience that has to be worked through. I look forward to seeing them next time. They are one of my favorite teams to watch.
I here what you are saying. Things happen. It's no reflection on the horse trainer rider groom etc. It's how you deal with it that counts. However Alois Podhajsky wrote that if you have an exceptional partnership both horse and rider can cope with the unexpected. There is a photo of a helicopter landing beside him on his horse. Both remain in control. But that's hard I get anxious and so does the horse.
C'mon! Is that particular song completely necessary though?? Forgive me, as I don't follow the FEI at all...... but surely that same song would not be used for every single competitor, right? They're all horsey people there, they would have to had known that particular part in the music would make any horse 'jump'. As far as I know -- this discipline doesn't focus on how "bombproof" your horse is. So I'm just wondering if it really would've hurt them that much, to just choose a slightly different song. Because that really wasn't fair.... In any case, this is just my idealistic opinion! Haha. I'm still grateful for the video :) Cheers!
I got spooked when the music started. For a second, I thought something terrible happened and people need to be evacuated. Sounded a bit like terrorist attack or mall shooting. Are we asking the horses way too much? Is this dressage business a competition on who is the best in dulling the horses against any natural instincts they may have? Maybe we - the people - should be trained not to panic too and continue shopping as usual when we hear loud banging noise, no?
You are sorry Thrilled had to have that experience? You put him there! Give these horses some horse freedom!!!! God, a backwards thinking human being.....is treating horses like this fun for you? This is gross. You are gross ...
What you do to horses is unbelievable...quit! Let them be horses .... running and grazing in God's country - not treating them inhumanely like you do. You are awful. You are an awful human being ... give them some freedom. I am so sorry I have watched and listened to you. How horrible you are...

Why can't they lower the bass? The music should never be that loud!

Looks like he got hurt by the bass music sounds.

I d suggest you look further into this rider and what they do before speaking so inconsiderably.
