Awesome!!! My son plays bass clarinet in marching and concert band. I've been looking for examples of how versatile this instrument can truly be. It's grossly underrated in my opinion. S/o to all the bc players out there!!
I've been playing Bass Clarinet for about a year now (played Bb Clarinet for 2 before I started) Its the best instrument choice I ever made I like it way better than Bb and words can explain the beautiful sounds you can produce with it
+Kendra “KennieB.” Wright hey same here I play clarinet for 2 years the switched. In my opinion the higher octaves of the bass clarinet sound a lot better the the clarinet's higher octave
Marcus is off the charts as a musician. Listen to his solo album The Sun Don't Lie. There is a reason why Miles asked Marcus to play with him. Always brillant!
Spoken like a musically challenged person. Don't know why you came all the way here to post negativity... If you don't like Jazz, then keep it moving.... Peace... As for me. I love it. It is perhaps the most diverse genre in the world.
I have seen him live a few times, amazing show. His wife actually bought him that Selmer Privilege years back as a Birthday gift. I knew he played bass clarinet but didn’t realize he also played sax. Super talented, one of my Bass guitar heroes. Glad I met him and got a pic with him. Awesome stuff here, I play sax but just bought a bass clarinet to learn, different fingering so I have to get used to that. 😳
SAXMANIVAN I saw an interview about how he started on piano, then recorder, then clarinet, then saxophone, then bass guitar. He took clarinet seriously enough to go to school for it. Years later he picked up bass clarinet while working with Miles.
The Bass Clarinet can be such a beautiful lead instrument when played in a higher register. Similar to a tenor sax but with a softer - more "rounded" - tone. I want to hear MORE !!!
When you are justifiably one of the top 10 bass players on the 🌎, I am a Christian but as my 👂 👂 absorbed this Heavenly-anointed musical Virtuoso sharing his 🎁 with using the bass clarinet as a bass 🎸, I was more than a little bit jealous; am I the only one to recognize exospheric ineffable music comprehension in its purest form? Thank you, Brother Marcus, going to purchase a bass clarinet (last played in elementary and high school), will practice until I start sounding like you. Brother Marcus, your 🎶 touches the soul initiating spiritual healing. We (the TH-cam family) via the miracle of TH-cam have your spiritually-uplifting musical legacy at our fingertips; we say "HALLELUJAH, thank you, Christ Jesus."
Je suis Français et avais eu l'occasion de voir cette formation en 1994 au festival de Nancy Jazz Pulsation. C'est à mon avis, une légende Poogie Bell. Dommage que sa route a pris un chemin différent avec l'excellentissime Marcus
Man i love the depth and feeling from the bass clarinet, though the music choice wasn't my fav ill keep looking for bass clarinet till i find a song that challenges the instrument :P great playing though.
You have it the wrong way round - the tenor sax sounds like a bass clarinet in the clarion register (Adolph Sax developed the Bass Clarinet into the form we know it now, before moving onto making his own thing)
Marcus Miller est la plus grosse arnaque musicale que je connaisse : il joue mal, peu inspiré, il cabotine, et là, à la clarinette basse, c'est horrible : il a en plus un son vraiment petit, aigre, et la musique est sirupeuse !MArcus Miller is playing bass clarinet in horrible way, with a little bad sound......and its music is like sugar syrup ! just horrible !
The guy is playing guitar all fancy like and you hear nothing. And, than this instrument from the starwars wokie bar shows up and sounds like me blowing my nose. Than the drummer plays fast to a slow ass song. Drummer plays even faster now, 16th notes. Everyone else slows way down. JAzz can't die fast enough, right.

+Isaiah Renteria Ive been playing for 5 and it was the best decision of my life
+Christopher Smith there's no explanation for its versatility
+Kendra “KennieB.” Wright I'm so agree with you this instrument is so amazing it's really funny to play with this kind of instrument!
Jazz is amazing. I love the Bass Clarinet . I am a band nerd in Alabama! I play Bass Clarinet for concert!

Magnifique la clarinette basse . Merci
Love how he quotes Firebird in his opening line.
I love Jazz music 🎵
Bass clarinet and tenor saxophone make a very good duo.
Magician of sounds. As he is made wonderfully sing his bass clarinet !

Marcus ! Nice Tenor player too! Who ?
Gertrude
Thats a Bass Clarinet.
@nova2007 +1
Repaired! :))))))
Awesome song. You just don't know music son.
soprano sax sounds out of tune
This is a Contrabass Clarinet
Nop, this a bass clarinet with low C.
Contrabass' body is much taller
Elevator, reception, dental office, let me put you on hold.
This sounds like smooth jazz not jazz......
Sounding like a sax anyway.
Nelson ThePrimate haha.... sure.
+Nelson ThePrimate Sure, just way cooler. More mellow.
Nelson ThePrimate no spunding like a clarinet

either he's very short... or thats the contrabass clarinet...
It's a low C bass clarinet, so it's longer than a typical low Eb bass. Marcus is 6'2".
Contrabass clarinets are nearly twice the size of a bass clarinet...
Selmer Paris Privilege Low C bass clarinet...13k new, can find as low as 10k, EXCELLENT sound.
Marcus Miller est la plus grosse arnaque musicale que je connaisse : il joue mal, peu inspiré, il cabotine, et là, à la clarinette basse, c'est horrible : il a en plus un son vraiment petit, aigre, et la musique est sirupeuse !MArcus Miller is playing bass clarinet in horrible way, with a little bad sound......and its music is like sugar syrup ! just horrible !
I think that's contralto
Jamzam no its a bass with a low c extension

Not for you, that much is clear. But why the jazz hate? Chill the fluck out. And. Let. It. Be.
Hahaha assuming ur a troll
Just for show ☹️ bad sound, Marcus stick with Bass Guitar 😱
