I'm interested in anodizing and came across this video. I've never seen such a well thought out solution to the cooling issue.

That was quite interesting. I highly doubt your not good at math. Very good job my friend 👍😊

You would definitely benefit from a CAD modeling program like Fusion 360. I am also terrified of making mistakes and prefer to visualize what I am trying to make. With a modeling program, you can not only see what you're trying to make, but discover and resolve the issues you'll encounter beforehand.
BTW, you said you're good with numbers in the start of the video, but later you say you're not good with math. 😂

I have fusion 360 and while some people are good with programs, I never have been. I need to work with things in my head, it's just the manner in which I process things. On the numbers, can you point me to where I said that? Time stamp? I'm pretty sure I never said I was good with numbers. When I was in college, I scored pretty high on the IQ test. They tested me several times because they thought it was a mistake. Despite the high IQ, numbers and math has always been my weakest point. When I went through auto school, I threw the grade curve so far, half the class ended up getting F's and they hated me from that point forward. LOL... People are just wired different. No 2 people are the same.

@@opieshomeshop I got it backwards. At 12:49 you mention you're not good with numbers, then later you said you're good with math.

@@bobweiram6321 No, I never said I was good with math either.

Do you think soap on the drill bit would help when drilling the long holes in the nylon would help? Only a thought, I have never tried.

I think a full length spiral drill bit would work better. The problem isn't so much the heat, but the inability for the chip to evacuate up the short spiral.

Thats a good idea. If I have to drill out any more in the future Ill certainly give it a try. The bit itself had no clearance past the flutes and if it had it would have drilled fine but I would have also ended up having a wondering bit and the holes would not have been straight. The polyethylene is a weird plastic. When it gets hot it gets sticky and expands and it's also hydrophobic. I was wetting the bit before drilling to cool it down and hoped that might help lubricate it a bit but it would get hot real fast and the water turned to steam and vented out from between the bit and drill hole. It drilled best when it was cold then became a nightmare when hot. So, because of that I had to drill a little and then stop and let it cool and that process dragged the job out to hours on end over a 2 day period for 4 lousy holes.. The chip loading was an issue as well so as soon as I felt it grab, I drilled a small amount and backed off and then pulled the drill bit out which took every ounce of strength I had, that's how much the plastic gripped the bit. I wish I could have filmed it but it is what it is. Hopefully I never have to do that again. 🤣
