I was lucky enough to meet Hank Azaria in NYC in Central Park a few months back. I told his I first saw him in The Birdcage as a kid and he laughed, he said he loved playing that character.
Robin William and Hank Azaria are two guys who always made me feel comfortable doing Goofy voices! Whenever I would feel weird doing impressions or accents to make myself or others laugh, I would see these guys and feel like I had brothers out there!
I still think this is one of the funniest movies ever made. And, growing up in a family with a bunch of repressed but loving republicans, I have to say gene hackman and Dianne Wiest nailed their roles.
Agreed. Though Nathan trying to act hetero was something else. This movie introduced me to gay culture as a young kid. It may be a little stereo typical, but I never saw a gay person as a bad thing because of this film.
Ive never really watched the full "The Birdcage" movie although i had heard of it in the past. Only recently within the last few days have i been watching scenes of it on TH-cam. As a big fan of Seinfeld, ive realized that Hank Azaria's character Agador Spartacus is very much like Kramer(physical comedy).
I never heard of this movie until last week. Can’t believe it’s taking me 31 years to see this. I was crying laughing the whole time. Hank Azari definitely stole the show.
I have literally watched this movie hundreds of times and each time i do it gets better and better. I even quote the movie on a daily basis! " It feels like I'm riding a psychotic horse towards a burning stable" and " I'm sweating like some sort of farm animal" are two of my favourites. They don't make movies like this anymore!
Hank Azaria was the best in this movie. Just hilarious. And the funny thing is he said after he was doing the voice, he realized that he was channeling his grandmother because that's how she used to speak English.
Im told that the scene in the kitchen after Azaria's prat-fall, where williams falls was a gaff, he wasn't supposed to fall, but he kept going even though he about to laugh and break character, but that brilliant moment of tension and laughter was just too perfect to leave on the cutting room floor and in my opinion was THE BEST SCENE and was the true climax moment of the film.
The kitchen scene, them taking swigs from the bottle, falling down, Agador crying, the son shaking his head every which way about to go into a panic, when Robin says GO, Agador throws shrimp in and Robin saying F the shrimp! Hilarious AF!
I read somewhere that robin slipped by accident, and Hank Azaria and Dan Futterman were trying not to laugh, so Dan just shook his head really hard and Hank dropped the shrimp in the pot. It was kept in
I know right? All those actors, with all their Oscars and he STEALS the movie with only a few scenes. If they had given him a little more screen time, surely he would have been nominated at least.
Every time I hear him say "God damn you!" to Spartacus I can't stop laughing. Something about that line kills me, then followed up by "fuck the shrimp!" and I'm on the floor.
Would you love to know that after he falls in the kitchen, it is unscripted past that point right before he goes back into the dining room. So all that comedy gold? Completely off script. Makes me love it even more.
This movie is so under appreciated and undervalued...regardless if Robin Williams was the leading actor, Hank and Nathan both completely stole that movie with their quirks, actions and lines. BEST EVER!
I just watched "The Bircage". Hank Azaria is absolutely, hysterically funny and does steal every scene he is in. The scene when he first has shoes on the falls while walking to the door is priceless! I would have loved more scenes of Agodore-Spartacus.
Omg....I had forgotten all about this movie...Agador Spartacus...the funny, crazy guy who didn’t wear shoes. I loved his accent and I do agree...he should have won some kind of reward...but the way Robin walked and Nathan played his role, heck, everybody was great. Gene Hackman at the end in that huge wig. I think it’s time for me to watch The Birdcage once again! Thanks for sharing and reminding me to watch it again and have some good laughs.
"But wait wait...there's chrimps" LOL one of the funniest movies ever! This has to be the only comedy that I can see over and over and over..and still laugh just as hard as the first time I saw it. Perfect cast of actors!
I know this sounds like I’m being some superior bytch---but watch the original “La Cage aux Folles” same screen play, just changed to English by THE two funniest writers in America-Elaine May and Mike Nichols. Their political comments about Bob Dole, Al Sharpton were classic. Google their movies--funnier than hell. Elaine May starred in and wrote “A New Leaf” with Walter Matthau---ANOTHER superb comedy actor!
At 1:24 Robin Williams looks like he accidently falls? He then improvises in his amazing comic talent without missing a beat slaps Hank Azaria on the knee & says 'it's ok we're alright, it's fine, just shut up God dam you, it's always, stop crying God dam you, what are you standing there for? go go' & with Hank's perfect comic genius timing drops the shrimp in the pot as Robin runs out the door the with the parting words of 'Dam it, fuck the shrimp' ! One of the best scenes in comic history.
Robin did accidently fall...... And most of that scene were improvised! That's what makes The Birdcage such a great comedy movie!!!!! I have the DVD, and watched the movie 4 times in July on TVGN
It's always bugged me how Armand said Agador had no talent. The guy can sing, he can act. If anything, they're paying him to do something he's horrible at -- cooking.
A little trivia: Armand's trip in 1:23 wasn't intentional, but it was so funny and perfect they decided to leave it in the movie. Look at Robin and Hank closely in that part, they are actually laughing XD
I am watching this on loop,I am crying 🤣🤣🤣🤣 This is one of the funniest movies ever; the original version with Tognazzi and Serrault was excellent, but here we have Robin Williams, Nathan Lane and Hank Azaria, not to mention Gene Hackman and Dianne Wiest...this is a masterpiece
He reminds me alot of Bronson Pinchot's character, Serge, the off- kilter art gallery employee in Beverly Hills Cop. Like Azaria, he's not on screen alot, but when he is, he pretty much obliterates everyone else in the scene. Priceless! A special runner up prize for Gene Hackman's interminable and awkward travelogue speech in his soon to be in laws' parlour, delivered in a strange, behind the beat, slow-mo pace. Hilarious and tense at the same time.
Hank possessed that role - I think this is one of the best performances of his career. He is one of the best character actors in history and we need more of him!!
great clips. it's missing my favorite part though: the part where the son asks "you can cook can't you?" and agadore replies: "your father seems to think so...."
I'm surprised hank azaria and Nathan lane wasn't in Mrs doubt fire along with Robin Williams... These trio are dynamite.. And of course Dianne wiest and gene hackman were brilliant too. One of the funniest movies i never tire of! 😍😊😀
Some of you all really missed the joke here..😂 Armand: “What the hell are Pirin tablets?!” Agador: “It’s Aspirin, with the A & the S scraped off.” Armand: “My god, what a brilliant idea..” Agador: “I know.”

And love this compilation but I wish it included the scene when Armand's son Val worriedly asks Agador Spartacus, "You DO know how to cook dinner, don't you?" and he replies, distractedly, "Jour father seems to theenk soooo..."

There are two famous actors on my bucket list I want to meet once in my life: Tim Curry and Hank Azaria!
He was Venom

We’re you intimidated by his guatamaliness?
Robin Williams, Nathan Lane, and Hank Azaria in one movie is GOLDEN!!!

They can NEVER remake this movie. No one will ever do it better than Robin Williams, Nathan Lane and Hank Azaria! Absolute GOLD! ❤❤❤
This movie is a remake.
Sadly, I don’t think this movie can be made in this day and age. Too many people would be offended by being portrayed as a stereotype.
@@embunchofnumbers yes but it’s the best version

They did!!!! It does show when you remove the labels we really have mostly the same values. It is just point of view.

There was no better character in this movie than Agador Spartacus. Robin was funny, Nathan Lane was on point but Hank Azaria was simply the best.
