- Check out what moving days are like when it's time to pack up and set up my U-Haul CT-13 camper when it's time to find a new campsite. I ran into a sketchy situation at my next boondocking campsite while cooking a salmon dinner. I also share my plan for trying to beat the heat on the route back home which includes instructions on how to make a swamp cooler.

Thank you! I haven't needed it yet! We are moving into colder temps now... I woke up to 31° the other morning. Of course I won't need it because I'm prepared now. Haha
I’ve been a nomad for eight years now. I will say, suggest to you to keep a spray bottle of vinegar for your cleanup. It also is awesome to clean vegetables and whatever you need. It’s a disinfectant and it breaks up whatever you’ve cooked in your skillet
I have a vinigar spray bottle, I just didn't verbalize or show it in the video. That is a great suggestion! It works so well!!!

Charlie is so pretty. Frozen or non frozen blueberries will help with the tear stains.
Thank you! She is stunning and has turned out to be such a great dog! I got her when she was 4 years old and completely broken on her way to the humane society during Covid. What a blessing she has been! And thanks for the blueberry info... She's not a fan of blueberries... I didn't know they were food for the tear stains. Maybe when I get home I can start making her some fresh food again and sneak those in there. I'll see what I can come up with on the road.

Thank you for cleaning up for the next camper! I also try to pick up the bits of trash, bottle tops, and cigarette butts left by the previous people... I have found horrors at otherwise beautiful BLM lands out west 😢. Currently moochdocking in N Ga... safe travels, love that U-Hsul camper!

We had a dog that would eat anything that he could get near without being supervised. He lived to be 16 years old, it was like living with a toddler. I am Canadian and my husband and I travel to the southern states during the winter. Ryan Hall, y’all has been a godsend for letting me know if there is a bad storm coming. Living in Ontario Canada doesn’t have many tornadoes so I’ve learned a lot from him on how to prepare our self if we’re in the path of a storm. Kudos to you for travelling independent.❤️❤️

Lol! I survived and got some more salmon the next day. I can't stay mad at her for long and I don't blame her either, it was too easy and extremely tempting.
Btw....Try getting some sesame seeds from the spice section and sprinkle that liberally on the salmon as you cook it. (I kind of 'encrust' mine, and let it toast a bit before removing it from the pan.) Delicious, especially with some raspberry sauce or raspberry jam. Uhmmmm!!
Yum! I happen to have some raspberry jam. I'll have to pick up some sesame seeds and give that a try next time I find good salmon.

Please stick with regular ice for your cooler, dry ice not safe in included area. From google. The gaseous CO2 released by dry ice can cause suffocation. This is because the CO2 displaces the oxygen in the air, such as in rooms with inadequate ventilation or during transport in vehicles. As a result, the oxygen content of inhaled air is reduced.
Thank you so much for the info! Dry ice is hard to find. I do have to keep the windows cracked and the air circulating if I use a cooling system. The sun on the roof of the camper just boils it if I can't find shade. I usually keep the Maxx fan running at 10% to push the hot air out. It can get pretty stagnant even with the normal airco running I do the same thing. It is great to know about the dry ice... I will be extremely cautious. Thank you again for that information! 💛
I agree with you it is dangerous ! And a severe burn can happen if touched. Not to mention it’s expensive
Could you either put a small waterproof over your bed near the cooker, or install a light weight metal shield at the end of your worktop, which could be removeable?
I could probably do that. I don't spill on my bed much, but I like the waterproof cover idea...💡

Just saw your video, save packages from dog treats or any pack that zip locks for trash or used paper towels from cooking Found on another TH-cam, and they sure come in handy. Pack of baby wipes work great for washing too Love your rig did not know Uhaul made rigs. Enjoy the journey!

I’m so happy I stumbled upon your channel. I previously had one of those fancy $100K+, traveling full time for almost 3 years. I decided to sell the van because I needed a home base. I miss the traveling so much that currently I’m camping out of my Subaru Outback while looking for a affordable small travel trailer. You have given me hope not to give up that freedom of travel. I also have a senior and need to stay relatively close to my home base for now. Your attitude is so close to how I feel about creating this life! Thank you!!

@@elainej9127 I love the fiberglass campers because they are so lightweight... if it's raining, I can still stand up in the camper and cook... it's like a little pod. I have also heard good reviews on the teardrops. They both have pros and cons... Some of the teardrops are more roomy than the 13ft fiberglass campers... it really comes down to what you can find and what suits your needs as far as clearance, towing capacity, and creature comforts you may need. You'll find the exact right one when you least expect it! 💛
Ryan Hall y'all is great and I hope you and your fur babies are safe. If you had a way to freeze a gallon jug of water, it would last longer and not be so messy in your swamp cooler. Safe travels.
I wish I had a way to freeze stuff. I'll keep the swamp cooler for when I'm home in Tennessee... Maybe the frozen jugs could provide some relief from the next heat wave. Nice swamp cooler build. They work great in arid climates, but not so much in humid ones.
Ah, Charlie, that salmon was just too tempting. I'm surprised Rupert didn't have a go at it, too. My cats figure that an abandoned dish is fair game.
It's been smoky here, too. Lots of wildfires, but we've finally been getting a little rain in the desert, so that helps.

I just went camping with a friend that uses a little tent. In the setup derby, I won by a large margin! You might want to line the cooler with reflexic if you have extra.
That's awesome! I camped with someone with a pop-up camper for a bit and they would just be getting level by the time I was breaking out my chair to crack open a beverage. Lol!
Great idea about the swamp cooler! I'll have to get some more Reflectix ... Charlee chewed up one of my window covers during a separation anxiety episode. They don't happen very often, but we usually have a protest about once a month when she is left alone for more than 2 hours. Lol

my husband made a swamp cooler for the garage.. but he used a 5 gallon bucket.
My brother suggested the bucket as well, but I don't have the tools on hand to saw through the plastic... So Styrofoam was the other option... I'm not a huge fan of Styrofoam. I'm going to try and continue to use it after this trip. I haven't hit the warmer temps yet, I've been fortunate.... How does it work for you guys?

Thank you! They were the prototype for Blazin Bolt. There is a link for them in the description for the video. I hardly have service where I'm at or I'd snag the link for you to make it easier. They are USB chargeable, but not solar just to make sure there's no confusion... but you can also charge stuff while driving if you don't have a solar panel.
Next time maybe put the salmon in the salad? The salad sounded good. :)
Hopefully there won't be a next time! Lol! It's the first and only time that's happened on the road. I've never felt the need to throw her in the camper the same time a meal was done and ready to be eaten. She's a really good dog... it was the sketchy circumstances that led to that.
Moments like these of being absent mind of our animals around when food is up for grabs, 1 for Charlie and you get to eat rabbit food, salad. Oh well. There’s no point being upset.
Of course you become absent minded about your food when your safety is in question. I was coping with and processing the loss. I don't blame her, but I was disappointed about the situation... She didn't get in very much trouble, I just let her know I was disappointed.
I like salmon,it hss helped lower my triglycerides,baked salmon patties from can salmon 😋😋god bless you and your animals , God keep you safe and well in Jesus name 🌞

Yes, I am grateful for that! This was the first time we've had an issue with food like that... I'm usually more cautious with her whereabouts and placement of my food, but was completely distracted by the sketch situation unfolding with quite a few yellow jackets in the mix.
Your animals travel 1st class. I crate trained my dog's in shell coverd truck with pass through window for 30 years. They will see more of America than 99% of Americans. 👍
They are definitely spoiled! Charlee is also crate trained, but I didn't have room for her crate. We've made it work with a few small separation anxiety outbursts. Other than that, she's done really well not being in her crate. 💛
Tired of the high 90s and scorpion bugs here in Colorado but then I remember how I hated the cold this winter lol
Hahahaha! I LOVE the cold! There's nothing better than layering up and brisk air. I usually don't travel in the summer for these reasons. Scorpion bugs don't sound fun either! 😂

Great job MacGyvering the solar display. Maybe you should take your tweezers to the store to measure for the right sized screwdriver? I always have to write a list so I don't forget things, then usually leave it at home. Now I put it on my cell phone, and leave that in the car. Sigh. Such is life. :)
How much solar do you have and would it run a 12 V cooler or fridge? That way you wouldn't need ice and could carry more perishable food.
I wish my cats were as chill as Rupert in a car. One sleeps in the cat carrier, the other yowls and spews from both ends. I'd love to take them camping, but that one experience during evacuation from a wildfire, plus they are almost 11 years old, makes me wonder if it's possible. Of course we were all very stressed, so that didn't help.
I've subscribed and will check back videos to see how you got your cat used to car trips.

I have 50 watts. It's enough for what I need... I think a small cooler would drain the battery if I had to run something else than running the fan and charging devices.
And Rupert is a great cat. I had him in his crate for the first 8K miles. His protests started increasing with every mile. It didn't start out that way. It didn't take us long to establish rules when I let him out of the crate the first time. I really struggled with that decision because of safety. He is doing much better though and doesn't protest or get sick anymore.

I really hope you get the chance to do this, too! It is life changing. I wouldn't change a thing, but I'm glad it gives you a more realistic perspective. I get a little flustered when people only show the good parts. It is an AMAZING lifestyle to experience and teaches you so much about your own capabilities, but there are a lot of uneasy nights and insecurity that comes with this lifestyle as well. Just as in normal life, there is a balance of good and bad... Or not as good. Hope to see you down the road! 💛

I had to drive through Port Orchard to get to Mount Rainier from the peninsula. It was a beautiful area! All of Washington has been beautiful!
