    My wife and I tied the knot at Kenda's cabin, and Marshall has become a special place for us; we've visited about five times and it feels like home. We're hopin to settle down soon and purchase a home somewhere close in the area of Searcy, ideally with some land to support my wife's business.

    Thanks for that! My grandparents lived in Leslie from 1960-1980. Seeing Marshall square where we hung out while grandpa went into the feed store on the corner was a good memory. I'll be contacting you soon. Time for God to take me home again.

    Welcome to Searcy County AR! There use to be more shops on he square. @4:37 on the corner was a Ben Franklin 5 and dime way back when. Rotens had bought out a lot of the buildings that had closed up and now they've gone out of business. They decided to retire. The barber shop has been there as long as I can remember and the DMV has been same place too. So many businesses closed up over the years or moved. It's a shame. I remember there being a soda fountain at the Baker Drug store back in the late 60's or early 70's. My grandparents had a farm at Shady Grove near Chimes. Mom moved us to the farm from Chicago when I was 16. What a culture shock that was! It's funny, but no matter how many times I've left, I keep coming back. Searcy County is home. I lived in Leslie for a good many years too. Raised my kids between Searcy and VB counties. @6:20 that is one of my favorite lookouts! I love it! Did you know that it was the mid 60's when hwy 65 got paved all the way to Little Rock? The road has changed quite a bit since then too. Can you imagine having to drive 100+ miles of dirt road to go see a specialist? Oh, I graduated from Leslie HS in 1974. We were the Leslie Bulldogs then! Leslie, Marshall and Witt Springs schools consolidated in (I think) 2004 or maybe 2005.

    Looking at different places in Arkansas to retire. Marshall looks like a nice place. My husband is more of a city boy, so it remains to be seen if we actually end up in a small town but I've been researching Marshall and I think you're very lucky to be living there. My great grandparents lived up North for their entire lives in (Pocahontas). So, I have a lot of relatives in that part of the state. They loved it in AR and spent their whole lives there.

    Beware of moving to Arkansas. If you rent an apartment, you essentially have zero rights. I have lived in my apartment for one year. I completed my lease. I paid every month through auto pay. They said that I could go month-to-month and they did not increase my rent. I received a letter from an attorney saving that I have to be out of my apartment February 29th. I'm screwed. I'm going through a medical condition through a cancer center in Little Rock and what they are doing is very wrong. In the law, it states that you can be a model tenant in a property management company can kick you out for any reason. If something goes wrong with your apartment, the property management does not have to fix it. Arkansas has the worst tenant laws in the country. Beware beware beware.

    Nice little town. The thing i want to ask is this... I work unemployment for our workforce development area in Texas and the job market is always on my mind. I am finding more and more people losing their jobs due to the mandate, and less employers willing to hire those that are not v.d. What is the employability outlook there? Could someone some in and find employment?

    • @ozarksrealtor
      @ozarksrealtor  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As I do business all over this town, I see signs everywhere for places hiring. Keep your eyes on the governor of Arkansas for mandate changes. If someone wants to work, they will find it. You can get ahold of our chamber of commerce for more information. They are very helpful!

      @@HarmonyHillHomestead1 This is the answer I got to your question:
      "There is no hiring agency in Searcy County. Harrison has one. The chamber pushes hiring through our Searcy County is Hiring Facebook. There is almost a continual need for employees at our restaurants, sawmills, Harps, home health, and special services like Friendship and Searcy County Special Services both of Marshall."

      I lived in Marshall in the past and ended up leaving due to serious lack of employment opportunities. If you are serious about finding employment and want to make good money NWA is where you want to be. There are tons of jobs here around Rogers,Bentonville, Springdale and Fayetteville mostly in production and manufacturing but there is a pretty wide range of other jobs to choose from as well. I have seriously lost one job here before and had three other job offers on the table by the end of my shift. There are several big companies like Walmart, Coca Cola, Pepsi, Clorox, Tyson and many others with home offices based in this area the sky is the limit here. This place is a freaking jackpot for job seekers.

      @@ozarksrealtor Thank you for replying! Yes, "country" people are much different from "city" people. (Even small towns in the Ozarks are "country".) I live in Missouri, but my family, before the "Civil War", lived in NW Arkansas, near Carrolton, and near Alpina. My gggrandfather enlisted there in Harrell's Battalion, Arkansas Cavalry, CSA. After the War they moved to Lead Hill (where they had relatives), in Boone County, because the Yankees had burned out many of the farms and mills in Carroll County. He moved his mother and his wife and two children, and in Lead Hill they had four more children. In the '20's my grandfather moved across the White River into Missouri, in Cedarcreek near Forsyth, Taney County. There was a ferry crossing the White River in those days, where now there are three lakes. Did you see the movie "The Outlaw Josie Wales"? That's about the way it was in Missouri-and Arkansas- in the War. There really were "Red Legs" who killed Missouri civilians and they came from Kansas. Of course the Union Army also killed about 20,000 unarmed Missouri civilians during the War, because they occupied our State and didn't like Southern sympathizers. First they disarmed them, making it "illegal" for Missourians to be armed. Then they killed them. Welcome to the South!
