Hey Jay, I think the reason why the French put clocks in they're cars was so the driver could see his lap times, or if the speedometer broke, they could tell how fast they were traveling. You have a beautiful collection sir, thank you for sharing it with the world.
y'know the thing i love about JLG is the variety of cars and how you get to see the beauty and sophistication of each vehicle. keep the videos comin' jay!
I have been enamoured of Delahaye's since reading my late father's copy of Ralph Stein's 'The Great Cars' when a child...the same time I also fell in love with the Bugatti 35, and the great Alfa's (illustrious ancestors of my father's white 1972 Alfa Romeo Berlina 2000). This is awesome, thanks Jay !
I find myself waiting for Jay's next video. I wish all affluent individuals had Jay's understanding of human interaction. We could use a few more people like this in the world we live in. Thanks Jay.
Jay... many thanks from some of us who simply enjoy your offerings on TH-cam as "some of us" will never own, let alone drive the wonders in your collection. "Leon's Garage" is neatly presented as you offer your ideas, knowledge and love of cars aimed at we viewers! Technical yet you try to keep it easy to understand. Keep it up.. Paul
Jay, your car knowledge is incredible. So are your cars. I love learning from you. Thankfully, you may have some serious coin but you’re not a snob. Keep being Jay. We love ya! I am infatuated with that dark blue delahaye next to this one.
1:34 well actually France is the birthplace of the automobile, the British Royal Automobile Club and the Automobile Club de France agree to say that the Fardier created by Joseph Cugnot was the first automobile ever built (first self propelled vehicle)
@@drm9979 funny enough Clement Ader claimed to have created a plane in 1890 that flew on a 300 meters distance. but he couldn't control the plane and this story has only be partially proven making the Wright brothers the inventor of the first controlled and motorised flight (in 1903)
You are far more dedicated than I ever would be. That is a very tough ride to get in and out of. Something I would do once to say I did it and that would be the end of it I would resell it. I lack the passion and the money. It is a very interesting machine Jay you could open a museum in the middle of nowhere and people would go to it. I would place it on route 66 in an aircraft hanger.
i love the little bits of your vids Jay, the little knowledge nibblits you give, stuff you just wont ever here unless you are the son of an old engineer from some major car company, or go to GOOD car shows and actually listen to the older guys with the unique cars. your just the best Jay, i wish i could mind meld with you (yep i'm a nerd) for your knowledge. keep it up, i will have as much as you care to put on JLG. :)
A car that took the old “to win, first you must finish” saying to heart. A less exciting, but more affordable way to win. Still, a beautiful car IMO. And from the era that produced all those beautiful GP lithograph art.
Hey Jay, maybe in part 2 you'll let us see you getting out. That would be fine. We owe you so much for sharing all of these magnificent cars with us. Thank you a million times.
Fantastic car Jay. One of my all time favorite cars of that period. Although I know I will never own one in my life, I have always dreamed of owning a Delahaye 135. Maybe i'll get to drive one once. Doubtful, but i'll keep dreaming. Thanks for the episode. Love seeing the car working and love the fact that after 80+ years, it's still in as new condition.
+Yasashii I'm with you on the exhaust note. There is just something extra appealing about this car. Even the name evokes a compelling vibe. And the starting procedure is not unlike an old warbird! Jay is always taking me to school!
Seems it was a car built with a different mind set from many Euro manufacturers in that durability and reliable low stress operation was counted on to carry the day.
I wonder why Bernard is dressed up... I love him from Adam Carolla's Carcast, it's just funny to see him in anything that isn't so BERNARD. Magnificent car, Jay. Simply magnificent. Thank you...
Why some videos no HD!! Jay all your videos deserve HD 720P at least, as your cars are beautiful, rare, and deserve good quality video and sound. Thank you for your wonderful videos you have excellent taste in cars, very objective in your explanations, and great that you drive them and share them with all of us. Cheers.
Just discovered this brand, what amazing design, similar to the Bugatti! They looked like boats on four wheels, beautiful design. What an amazing collection, love the Bugatti Type 35/37a in the background!
Hell Jay, you're a lot bigger and taller than the average European or American in the 1920's. The average Gran Prix driver then was most likely 5'5" and 145 lbs soaking wet. Those cars weren't built for us!
Jay you are an awesome guy. Like me Jay has put on a bit of weight. Thanks for sharing your cars with us. I'd have no chance of seeing this car in a small Cape Breton town. If you ever decide to race your Delahaye in the Cape Breton Highlands give me a call. A great place for a race or rally. Mary's husband Peter
Many still are. And in MotoGP, that’d be one of your heaviest riders. I’ve got a “retro euro build” myself. It’s very convenient when it comes to race cars and sports cars.
Hey Jay. .we saw your darker blue delahaye today up in the canyon and we tried to find a video about that one. I'd like to see you talk about that one too. it's beautiful! thanks for the videos.
This is one of Jay's coolest cars, and an interesting video, that's been up for four years- why are the views so low compared to his other videos? Most of his other 'classic racecar' clips have more than double the views of this clip.'
the competitors were Alfa 8C 2900 supercharged, 2,6 litre Monza, Talbot Lago 4 Litre, Delage 3 Litre, Alta 2 Litre, Peugeot Darl, Mat and a 3,5 Litre Delahaye
back in the early 80s I found a Delahaye on a used car lot in Monterey California. I didn't know what the heck it was. Same lot had a 1955 packard that was stock except for belts and hoses were replaced, had only 28 K miles and the dealer that sold the packard was still in business selling fords. weird car lot, also had a Rolls, a Pantera, and other oddball cars.
Hey Jay! Is that RACE DECK Flooring under your cars? I have the same stuff in my shop! Its amazing except that it can be pretty hard to clean if you get oil on it!
Very interesting car, the electric fan is complety modern. Very advanced for car of that period to have. Also it being RHD as well being as European cars tend to LHD apart from here in the UK. Great colour too!

Why is it that everyone seems to be under the impression that disc brakes were not available until the 1950's? (see 2:24 )The first caliper-type automobile disc brake was patented by Frederick William Lanchester in his Birmingham factory in 1902 and used successfully on Lanchester cars. Unfortunately the limited choice of metals in this period meant that he had to use copper as the brake medium acting on the disc. Since the copper wore quickly due to the roads being little more than dirt tracks, the system was impractical until better materials became available.
French car in USA is very rare. This French car is painted with this blue color which was the color of French race cars.British race cars was painted green, italian red,German was silver,Japanese white
Germany was originally White, they took the paint off to get under a weight restriction and kept it that way. White with Blue stripe became America after it qualified for International / European racing.
This is only 6 years ago? Man, it feels he aged so much since then...he moves very differently. I really hope he is fine and well because he is such a nice Guy :(
never getting tired of jay talking about his cars. just plain brilliance! thanks jay
Beautiful car....that French blue is the perfect color too. I have posters of similar cars from the Monaco Grand Prix hanging on my wall.
Hey Jay, I think the reason why the French put clocks in they're cars was so the driver could see his lap times, or if the speedometer broke, they could tell how fast they were traveling. You have a beautiful collection sir, thank you for sharing it with the world.

I still have my Ralph Stein books too... almost 60 years worth of reading and dreaming about Vintage Cars... Ahhh
i love these cars from the 20s - 30s, they lookso damn cool. thanks for letting us experience your cars, jay!
I find myself waiting for Jay's next video. I wish all affluent individuals had Jay's understanding of human interaction. We could use a few more people like this in the world we live in. Thanks Jay.
Nothing like some automotive history to brighten your day!

Love this car. One of my all time FAVORITES!
Thanks for showing how hard it is to get in. That was great!
Jay Leno's Garage. I love y'all's old antique vehicles that y'all have.
Great show Jay! My dad always told me "If you can't find it, GRIND IT!"

Jay Leno's car videos are just marvellous! Home from work, cup of tea and watch the best connosieur of things with engines - Cheers Jay!

Jay's your only man.
Watching Jay get into that seat was worth the price of admission!

Exquisite machine...just perfect...and that French Blue...
happy birthday, jay! wish you all the best and keep up the great work. greetings from germany
How great is it to see a collector actually driving his cars?
Delahaye makes some of the most beautiful autos of the 1930's.
Wow, what a great segment! I like the advice at the end about grinding gears.
i love the grill/ headlight combo. and thanks for the education Jay
some of the most fun I've had watching Jay's vidz from the 6:30mark till he gets in it....way to take one for the team Jay! u da man Jay!
I like the way they did the head lights. Overall an attractive car.
Am I the only one who actually likes the engine note on this car?
+Yasashii I'm with you on the exhaust note. There is just something extra appealing about this car. Even the name evokes a compelling vibe. And the starting procedure is not unlike an old warbird! Jay is always taking me to school!
nope
Throaty, I like it.

THEY LOOK EVEN MORE SPECTACULAR IN THE FLESH.
Yes! I couldn't take my eyes off it!
He should try to use the left door to get into the driving position :) love this car, and big thanks for all the reviews
It's like a cross between a gracious rolls royce from that time and a Bugatti race car. The shape of the fenders and back is so nice
Get in from the other side, Mr. Leno. Very cool Car. Thank you
Just discovered this brand, what amazing design, similar to the Bugatti! They looked like boats on four wheels, beautiful design. What an amazing collection, love the Bugatti Type 35/37a in the background!
I don't think I could stand having the steering wheel so close, otherwise it looks like a lot of fun to drive. Good one Jay!
Yeah, I like how the Delahaye gets to sit next to the Atlantic.
(Jay's Atlantic is a replica btw)
lool jays face when he grinded those gears haha
What a beauty
Hell Jay, you're a lot bigger and taller than the average European or American in the 1920's. The average Gran Prix driver then was most likely 5'5" and 145 lbs soaking wet. Those cars weren't built for us!

just get on keto and you'll be @45lbs in less than 6 months
Many still are. And in MotoGP, that’d be one of your heaviest riders. I’ve got a “retro euro build” myself. It’s very convenient when it comes to race cars and sports cars.
As good as Jay's 135 GP car looks, the examples with custom coachwork are stunning.

Nice car. Great video jay! I think it sounds amazing.
Reminds me when public tv aired « King Henry VIII ». King was lowered down on his horse of sorrows by said hoist system.
the competitors were Alfa 8C 2900 supercharged, 2,6 litre Monza, Talbot Lago 4 Litre, Delage 3 Litre, Alta 2 Litre, Peugeot Darl, Mat and a 3,5 Litre Delahaye
awesum car jay! thanks...
personally the delahaye is one of the sexiest cars
“And don’t grind gears” 😆👍🏽

BELLISSIMA
Maybe in the heat of racing pull to shut down switches make sense, less likely to shutdown accidentally.
Thanks Jay, MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Hey Jay! Is that RACE DECK Flooring under your cars? I have the same stuff in my shop! Its amazing except that it can be pretty hard to clean if you get oil on it!
Real cool vid, love the channel. Those Frenchies were probably 1/3 the seize of Jay ;p
Jay Leno - never seen without his double denim.
Very interesting car, the electric fan is complety modern. Very advanced for car of that period to have. Also it being RHD as well being as European cars tend to LHD apart from here in the UK.
