I’ve just test driven the 2016 1.4 turbo elite today and it’s the best car I’ve looked at. So much bang for your buck! Heated seats front and back, heated steering wheel. Full leather. Sat nav. Relatively quick with good mpg… the list goes on. I was so impressed that I’ve put a deposit on it and pick it up next week!

I loveee opel cars, the driving experience is so good. I’ve owned a 2015 Corsa 1.0T 5dr 85kW, was the heaviest in its class but was very energetic to carry its own weight and 5 people and the boot full going over inclines smoothly, I wish I could say the same about the lazy Kia Rio and i20. Also was smooth and quiet with loads of features. I loaded all optional extras such as blind spot monitor imagine that in thin segment and in 2015 and auto parking assist, reverse and parallel parking I loved it and called it “my attention seeker🤪” and many other features such as auto stop start, hill start assist which were I think were std features. Big value

I've seen astra at local dealer, and it looks a bit expansive even in middle trims. You can have full led lights etc. but there isn't light in front glowebox and no air vents for rear passangers, this is step backward to previous model which had those features, so for me it was like they made a new car as cheap as possible and just added lots of new toys but forget about basic ones.

Does the new range use the same hyperstrut suspension set up of the GTC? I own a gtc 165, and it drives great, I mean really good, quick enough loads of torque (350nm), and corners really flat, but isn't to stiff to enjoy the wife. It is let down only by is dated dashboard.

  • @autofreak7
    @autofreak7 7 ปีที่แล้ว

In Belgium it's possible to get it with an adjustable load floor in the boot. In essence I think they just wanted to make it as big/deep as possible while the high load lip in all newer models is due to compatibility engineering. They want to make the bumper cross members higher so it wouldn't go under an SUV in case of a crash. Also, the big bumpers are made of plastic which is cheaper to produce and Insurance companies like it better because they get less parking dents repair bills. That's another reason why newer models seem to have high loading sills at the boot.
Finally, while development used to be focused on the hatchback or standard model, nowadays some manufacturers want to sell more estate cars which drives them to invest more in the estate version, especially on practicality innovations.

Also on Elite Navs both the front and rear seats are heated and there’s USB charging ports in the rear as well as the front.

What about the 1.6 turbo petrol 200 hp version? is that not available in the uk? I wonder how does that fare against the warm hatch competition.

+carwow Matt, please make the laying down in the rear with the rear seats folded down test. I use to sleep in my car when I'm tired on the road. It would be pretty interesting to know if you can lay there for an hour or so before continuing the journey. Thank you

I own a 2010 Astra 1.6 lt turbo 180hp and I love it. No serious problems till now and it handles great. The only problem is the fuel economy.

I had a 2018 astra 1.6 turbo petrol with 197 bhp, Only had it 5 months wasn’t great on fuel especially if you have a heavy right foot like me. 🤣 Great car to drive though.

Only way to solve the boot space problem is to buy the Estate or station wagon (Oarstralia) which solves the problem of having to buy a medium sized car.

so sorry for bothering guys, i just have a quick question what is that black thingy behind the gear lever ? at 2:58 , right under the climate change controls ? i've been in an astra and that was a little empty space, i hope someone will see this and will be able to give me an answer. Great review as always Matt, you are the car channel i watch the most when it comes down to reviews, cause i know that i get all the information i need in them! So keep up the great work!!

I love my Astra biT. Curiously mine does have a rear arm rest. And the matrix lights are amazing. Not sure the AEB works though.

Since having this, have you had many issues? I only ask as people say Vauxhall are really unreliable and have issues.

Central LCD screen should be adjustable, so you could turn it towards you when you drive. Side windows are strangely small, not making a good impression, it's a bit claustrophobic inside. From the outside car looks really nice, event from the front.

I still feel that the previous Astra was better looking on the outside... Having said that I'm warming to this and having been in a few, they're mighty impressive and leaps and bounds better than the last one!

Wow Car prices are exploding, Mat says base Astra was £15k, and don't forget he also says that on Av CW can get you £2.5 k off that. This was produced 2016, base Astra (ICE not electric, so comparable) is now £23.8, Now working on £15.5 thats a 54% increase in 6 years, soon cars will be out of the price range of people with normal jobs.

Got my partner one of these, excellent car all the way round, auto gearbox is a bit sluggish and the 136 BHP diesel engine sounds a bit vanny (does go well mind), other than that very happy with it.
