Warching the antics and scandals at D1 schools was often jaw dropping back in the ‘70s seemed like for every Bear Bryant who retired from Alabama with his reputation unscathed, there was a Tom Osbotne leaving Nebraska under a cloud because some player beating up his girlfriend. Boosters provided astronomical funding to help build the facilities to help attract the best talent to draw the biggest crowds to generate the greater funding to support other programs at the university. But it falls apart if you let the boosters actually start making the day to day decisions. I never knew the exact extent of booster influence in recruiting, but there were some interesting rumors in my time… In my home state of Hawaii, I am friends with a U of Hawaii reciever whose team beat Nebraska in Lincoln in the ‘50s. You're 100% wrong because you're looking at a very small picture. Basketball isn't everything, it speaks volumes about Coquese Washington that she's more concerned with Kiyomi McMiller the person than she is the player.

No matter if the decision by the coach was warranted or not the way Kiyomi is handling it is very unprofessional and a bad look. This is telling for me and actually makes me favor the coach in this situation
I read clear between the coaches words that ball player of hers sounds like she got big headed and she got very full of herself ahead of that USC game with juju Watkins it sounds like to me she got very big headed and full of herself and started feeling herself a little bit way too hard where she thought she was above the team and above the coach and her coach benching her humbled her real fast but I see there's a lot of people that has never been a part of sports teams before in these comments if you played football basketball baseball and you got full of yourself while on the team with your teammates yeah your coach most definitely humbled you and y'all know what I'm talking about sounds deserving to me. 💯
Sounds to me like a coach that cares about the player beyond the sport. A coach that understands that she has a responsibility to the school and a duty to the players to help them develop into not only the best players but also the best people they are capable of becoming. That coach knew she was jeopardizing the game, her reputation, and relationship with her start player, and decided that the player’s ultimate destination was worth it. Hats off to her, may the game be blessed with more of her.
So if she beat up another player, the victim should be suspended too? The whole “this game is too important to punish the star” mentality is how you get players who think it’s okay to do deliberate flagrant fouls.
As a D1 and pro athlete we want to blame the coach but it’s sounds like kiyomi broke a team rule and the coach didn’t care who she was and followed the team rules lol it’s clear a lot of yall haven’t played high level sports. No matter how good you are you still have to get with the program!
Her name is Kiyomi! Now that teams see what she’s done on the college level, she’ll easily land with one of the top programs. You dont know basketball.
I think you meant "deflect" not "diffuse" but either way I don't think that's what the coach did. The coach didn't use the example to deflect, it was her way of saying she cares about the actual individual and her overall development and not just what she can do on the court. You're upset about her missing one game that you were looking forward to watching which is cool. However, just because she's a great player doesn't mean she gets to do whatever she wants without consequences. If what she did warranted her being benched then her reaction shows that she may have been accustomed to getting away with things in the past and has rarely been disciplined/redirected by someone with leadership skills who cares about her growth as a person.
Her actions of putting this on social media will limit the best successful teams from actually taking her from the portal. Most coaches will not deal with her. There is too much talent out there. She will be one of those players that will be talked about as what could have been.
This is cope. Some smaller and poorer programs will want her just to boost ticket revenue off the drama alone. People really don't understand capitalism.

Which is why CC coming in acting like a professional on & off the court is so refreshing. Because we’ve never seen this out of this league before, ever! Look at her put her degree to work before she even stepped out of college.
We don't know what caused the coach to take this action but we can see how Kiyomi is acting. I suspect that the benching was warranted. She is just a freshman and is acting out with self importance. Her college career is more than just basketball. It's also academics and growing into a good human being. If the coach doesn't check her now and help her get on the right track than when? She may well be disrupting the whole team. It is the coaches responsibility to guide her players to be good humans as well as players.
Since I don't know what's going on behind the scene, I give the coach the benefit of the doubt. Mulkey did the same thing to Reese and everyone got her for that, but look at how unstable and immature Reese turned out to be.
@Doomsguy9000 provide receipts about Reese being unstable it's wow how people make things up about Reese. Please explain why this unstable person have so many endorsements deals. Damn, I wish I was unstable.😅😅😅😅
The fact she refers to herself as "The Product" indicates a pretty inflated opinion of herself and a lack of self awareness. A coach has 12 personalities to deal with and she cannot let one ruin the environment for the other 11. Thats a fact and your take without knowing the facts is ridiculous. Good luck being a parent if your not already.
The coach & school sounds like they're trying to help her, however some people don't want help & rather see themselves burn. If the infraction was minor/no big deal then why not acknowledge it like a "Grown Up"? It's probably a bigger deal that's why.
Her style of play isn’t conducive to Team Basketball. Wouldn’t shock me if her teammates are upset that she goes 1v5 every time she touches the ball. Are yall watching the games ? The Rutgers are getting blown out with her on the floor..
I’m sure Kyiomi was wrong for her coach to bench her and hopefully she learns for whatever she did. However, the young lady is probably 18 or 19 and needs to be given some grace to grow instead of attacking her character.
She is writing... period...!! We don't know what she did to be benched..But obviously, she is very immature by her tweet and selfish take... What is a coach suppose to do with team infractions..? Look the other way because she's good... and lose the locker-room..? I'm sorry one player can be replaced... The team can't
See this is what's wrong with this culture the fact that a player goes on the bench it's not a bad thing it's called discipline you want that person to understand you're not going to get what you want because you're so talented but this culture only cares about seeing the person perform and doesn't matter what that person did so now you want them to transfer someplace else so they can not fix the problem that they have but just entertain you with their talent that's not right and even if she did get into an altercation with another teammate she is the most talented player she has to understand that you have more to lose than the other person so sitting you down and losing this game it doesn't hurt anyway because she's a freshman she's going to be in college for another 3 years
I see many people attacking Sam for his take which is wild to me because the same way you are all stating your "opinion" on the matter, that is what he did. I don't agree with most of take because I've also played growing up and I know how these situations can be. I don't know if Kiyomi has control of her own social media or if she is allowing her parents to run it. What I do know is that regardless to the situation, the public reposting and things like that is not a good look. This gives the impression that she or whoever it is that controls her social media does not agree with the coach. That is fine, but showing that publicly is a no go. There are many great players out there. Most go to play overseas after college. We are in a time where that may turn around in the next couple of years which will make the league a lot more entertaining to watch. I hate that this happened because I would have loved to see her play, but I love that this happened because a huge part of being a "star" athlete is character. I believe this will be a VERY teachable moment for her. Yes, it was a missed opportunity, but it would have been a bigger missed opportunity to allow her to get away with whatever it is she did or said (assuming it was because of her and not the company she keeps). Hopefully she grows from this. She is NOT bigger than her team or any league she decides to play in. PERIOD. Thank you for posting this video because the conversation needed to be had. :)
My daughter plays balls at a D2 school and is a hell of a player and to be honest she is the best player on the team but she got benched for a very important game and me and my wife was like what hell is going on, turns out my daughter my acting out of pocket in practice and giving everyone her ass to kiss including the coach and the coach had to remind her that you are not bigger than the team and benched her. I get the feeling this is probably a similar situation and i back the coach 100 percent.
You people are ridiculous. You really think the Athletic Director would be defending an athlete that committed a crime. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 As a former girls basketball coach myself I can tell you especially dealing with women coaches there are multiple different reasons only women would understand to why a player could get benches by a coach that have nothing to do with legal situations or academics.
Highlight culture got all these talented kids thinking they MJ. Yall forget MJ wasn’t MJ until he had Phil Jackson Scottie Pippen and later in his career Dennis Rodman he was a nobody until the pieces came together nobody is bigger than the team don’t matter how good you are
Man, this generation just refuses to even acknowledge accountability...smdh. Keeping in mind we don't know why she was benched, this is an insane over reaction to hint that she should enter the transfer portal. Terrible take.
Not a good take. The coach has the lockeroom until they are no longer there. Looks like you are too young to understand who Bobby Knight. If Miller leaves via the portal because of this it will say more about her.
They’re protecting the “JuJu” image. Didn’t want Mcmiller out there making USC players look crazy. Politics as Usual…. And juju nice, but Flaujae the one!

These young adults are to entitled and very annoying. They believe they run everything & can do whatever they want without consequences!! Smh had this been the early 2000’s she would’ve got kicked off the team!

Mulkey did the same thing to Reese and everyone got her for that, but look at how unstable and immature Reese turned out to be.
how unstable, how immature?? Give specific examples of this since you're the only one who knows about it
@@DaFactsNoNonsense1713 the fact you asked that question tells me you aint never watched the WNBA all season but wants to make comments about it.
THE GREAT
DAWN STALEY PASSED ON THAT PLAYER .
SHE IS A PROBLEM
Lol Geno passed on Clark. Sometimes the "greats" in college coaching lack vision.
Rumor going around that she got into a fight with a teammate
LOOK YOU NEED TO CALL SOME ONE WHO IS ASSOCIATED
WITH THE SITUATION
She is writing... period...!! We don't know what she did to be benched..But obviously, she is very immature by her tweet and selfish take... What is a coach suppose to do with team infractions..? Look the other way because she's good... and lose the locker-room..? I'm sorry one player can be replaced... The team can't
Coach made the decision for a reason..
The coach wanted to humble Kiyomi
Highlight culture got all these talented kids thinking they MJ. Yall forget MJ wasn’t MJ until he had Phil Jackson Scottie Pippen and later in his career Dennis Rodman he was a nobody until the pieces came together nobody is bigger than the team don’t matter how good you are
I think she did something, that coach sounds like she got her head on straight
This take was solely based on your emotions! 😂😂😂😂😂
THE DAWN STALEY TOOK A PASS ON HER K MILLER
Not a big deal, some took a pass on Dawn Staley or left her program.
Oliva Miles is going to the W, get her to Notre Dame.
Yeah, all this "ministry" nonsense from Washington is a huge red flag for me. Your analysis is legit.
Chicago Sky will take her.
I think they are gonna fire the coach rutgers ain't gonna let that meal ticket get away
you think? stop lying
(THE DAWN STALEY ) TOOK A PASS ON HER K MILLER
Young selfish and self glorification. Kiyomi just learned a valuable lesson (she doesn't realize it yet), but life does not revolve around one person. Coaches decision team over individuals.
These young adults are to entitled and very annoying. They believe they run everything & can do whatever they want without consequences!! Smh had this been the early 2000’s she would’ve got kicked off the team!
You must have never coached or cared about a kids future before
Dude I hope this player have good adviser and not listen to all these assistances coaches out here like yourself . Coaches sit player all the time, mostly for discipline and grades. Maybe she should talk to the girl from S Car
Great video, thanks
Awesome you brought light to this. When a coach deflects a simple question, it’s appears sketchy. Not that women’s sport means anything though.
Orrrrr, the coach could actually be trying to protect the player by not airing out their dirty laundry for the entire world.
She is leading them.
Women think they can have secrets is what the problem is and that player is immature
thanks for the vid, i was confused
Look.....either you can coach or not! Rutgers got blown out
This is all CAP, McMiller CAN PLAY, but she is NOT on Watkins level right now, not close, Rutgers is weak, McMiller had 15 pts vs Ohio State with an L
Yeah unless she violated rules or criminal you are playing with her future income earning
These DEI coach hires don't get it. They can't manage a team let alone their own lives.
Yeah the former head assistant of Notre Dame, 12 years a head coach at Penn St and long time WNBA player is a DEI hire lol. OK racist.
The coach is full of herself this is a big deal enternal bs fire the coach immediately
It's women's bball, they need all the help they can get.....coaches wanna be the center of attention
Non athletes make me sick. When I'm that player damn right I'm cocky you on the bench for a reason I'm the ish and all yall go smell it your not better than me thats why your a pine rooter she had plenty other games after this one to suspend Kyomi you didnt suspend the other participant involved so it says alot.
She took money to sit her.. kiyomi would have put a lil dent in juju draft stock.. and coach hating..cause the attention she’s getting
Come to Uconn 💯
Shit was rigged for her not to play
Black women and drama. All that needs to be said. Tommy Sotomayor is right, "AGAIN".
GO BE AN INVESTIGATIVE REPORTER. U GO CALL SOME ONE ABOUT THAT DISRESCPSTFULL TEENAGER. NOW GO DO YOUR JOB AND FIND THE BACK STORY !!!!!!!?? ON K MC MILLER
Yeah right I mean Rutgers is garbage 🗑
she gone
All these young and unproven coaches do not deserve generational talent
Rutgers Women's Coaching Staff needs Media Training SMH
All these people ASS-UMING that Kyomi deserved to get benched, you're blaming Kyomi for a COACH'S DECISION lol okay...her job is to WIN games.
Glad she can enter the Transfer Portal!!!
