  • Making an Easy Bulk Chicken Feeder that will hold about 70lbs of chicken feed with Zero Waste and Automatically feed chickens for weeks!
    www.diytyler.com/shop/bulk-au...
Since it freezing in Michigan and the chickens have not place to free range we needed a way to make sure the chickens get more food throughout the day instead. The kids feed them in the morning and evening but I noticed if I went outside midday they seemed pretty hungry. This bulk feeder will allow us to dump more than an entire bag of feed into this feeder and leave it be for weeks!

This is a very easy DIY chicken feeder build. With the price of plywood right now (2022) it might be a bit expensive if you have to by the material. If you have scraps like we did you can build this zero waste auto chicken feeder for next to nothing. I didn't have to get any materials for this build so it cost us 0$!

I go through 60 lbs of scratch grains and 40 lbs of layer pellets a week. Layer feed is available all the time and scratch in the morning and evening. Winters about 50 lbs extra a month.

Chicken coop builder and chicken owner here! Love this design. The longer you can go between feeding and watering the easier life is! I may have to look into adapting this into a mobile "tractor" design for my coops! Thanks for sharing Tyler!

The mice and rats will love your feeder too! Endless supply, easy access.
    Still good build!

      That was my first thought.
Keeping mice out of the feed is a constant battle.
Not a bad design if he puts a hinged flap over feed access and closes it when the birds aren't outside

Yet again, a project I won’t be building….. BUT… I love watching you work and I always pick up something I can use somewhere else. Keep putting out content. I’ll keep watching.

Solid design. beautiful shop! A suggestion I would like to share is possibly build another one with more basic tools/materials. I think people would appreciate that.

I don't have chickens, but I am a fan of using up scrap from a previous project. Given how this feeder's internally braced with the angles, glue and screws, and reinforcing pieces, it would also be possible to use 1/2" plywood in this application, if that's what someone had on hand, or for the expense. It's stronger than you'd think, plus those lip pieces at the bottoms of the long sides would help keep them from bowing out from the weight of the grain.

I love that you're thinking about the details like a designer and a builder who cares about the life of whatever you're building. I've rarely seen good design and build with easy instructions for a sustianble structure. I'd love to see you repurpise materials for new, *functional* structures that I cna follow as well. There's a lot of furniture goign into trash and raw materials from HD/Lowes climbing so rookie diyers can't afford to really buy brand new supplies and test out to build their skills. Appreciate this channel thnx for sharing your skills.

I like this design best of the ones i looked at today, it covers most of my points i'm looking for and the last one i can tweak the design to fix. I would add an (upside down)V-shaped bottom plate so that no food could be trapped out of the reach of the birds or maybe center a triangular strip of wood to encourage the flow to the outer edges. Great Build !! very inspiring :)

Be careful you dont end up with mice living under that feeder. Anything we've built that is just an inch or 2 off the ground and is remotely close to chicken feed ends up with a healthy mouse population. A chicken will get one from time to time, but they really go crazy on the feed at night too.

For the feet, I wonder if a rubberized spray ala flex seal would work. Cool build, thank you for sharing.

Hole for their head looks small. But I assume it's to make it hard for other animals to get into it

It's so they don't crawl in and poop in their feed.
