I hate MMPR for ending Tommy's arc as the Green Ranger and making him the White Ranger and I like the Red Ranger being the leader and also hate the replacement of Jason, Triny and Zack from the show. At last I also hate the destruction of DinoZords and replacing them with Thunderzords and extending the arc of Rita and Zedd too much upto In Space, instead they should have tried to finish off the story in the second season and start with a completely fresh season onwards.
Only those of us who watched Season 3/Alien Ranger live will ever truly understand just how much of a gut punch watching the Command Center be destroyed was🥺. And Saban doesn't get enough credit for how well they set up the change months before hand. The non canon mini series before the episode proper, the slow reveal of the Zeo logo with the promise of "It's coming!"
Agreed. Forever fortunate to have met the man in 2009 at an anime convention. Here's a fun bts fact that some people never knew. During the Turbo film when Divatox was calling Rita, it wasn't Ed Neal in the suit snoring. It was the prop master himself (Mark Richardson). I interviewed the guy last year at a convention (I'll be doing a video on this soon).
The mini-series of sneak peeks was one of the greatest bits of marketing I've ever personally experienced, almost 30 years after it first aired. The internet still in it's earliest, dial-up years, no widespread knowledge of Super Sentai for fans to know what zords were coming next, and the mini-series airing little morsels of hints for what happens next in the show. And then, Fox Kids hit us with the "It's Coming!" commericals, and we see the "Pwer Rangers Zeo" logo rendered for the first time. It was an experience!
Agreed. We never saw something like that before for Power Rangers. It was like seeing your morning cartoons during prime time. Those were exciting times for a kid. ❤
Hands down! That was brilliant marketing! It got us 90’s kids hyped beyond hype! 😆 It’s wild to think a sneak peek campaign for such a massive pop culture staple is unlikely to ever happen again as the daily act of tuning into live television has become a thing of the past, combined with the internet’s tendency to spoil everything, and the death of monoculture. …we didn’t know how good we had it back then!!! 😭 LoL
"Higher they can soar..." "GO, ZEO!" "Fired up for more..." "GO, ZEO!" "Even up the score..." "Zeo! ZEO!!" "Go, Go, Power Rangers!" "Go, Go, Power Rangers!" "Go, Go, Power Rangers..." "ZEO...POWER RANGERS!!"
I love that Forever Red somewhat revisited the Machine Empire. This was a fun season as a kid. Turbo was a let down till In Space showed up. Thanks for covering Zeo Dan. Looking forward to when you hit IS, LG, LSR, TF, WF, NS and DT!
Zeo was one of my fave seasons. Literally couldn't have guessed jason would come back as gold ranger. I subscribed to fox kids magazine and they hinted it would be Ryan from VR troopers (not just his voice)
Ryan, the character from VR Troopers, was also going to be the White Ranger. Imagine Ryan asking the Rangers can you help me find my dad? That would've been wild.
That was the original plan I believe, but they pivoted it. Maybe when the ratings started to drop, they did what they needed to do to get ASJ back in the game.
Brad Hawkins was going to be the a white Ranger while Jason David Frank was going to star in VR Troopers, better known then as Cybertron. JDF was called back to MMPR and they gave Brad the lead in the newly titled VR Troopers.
@@jasonelliott7977 Yes but then VR Troopers ended and they planned to grandfather Brad back into Power Rangers with Zeo. That's why they had him do the voice for Zeo Gold at first. But the ratings dropped and they knew Brad would have less pull among the PR audience than ASJ would.
It's ironic that the in the Mighty Morphin seasons, the Rangers use technology and the villians use magic; while in Zeo the Rangers use magic while the villians use technology.
As someone who was a massive Mighty Morphin fan. Zeo just felt like a breath of fresh air for the series and the last hurrah for the Mighty Morphin era. The new suits were a very welcome change. Jason's return with him and Tommy swapping roles was great and the Machine Empire just felt like a real threat when Rita and Zedd just felt to comical at the time. Sadly it was followed up by Turbo, which the less said about the better.
When they did the episode where Tommy and Tanya could only communicate through singing, they offered to dub in a singing voice for Jason David Frank. He turned it down because he thought the audience hearing his real, tone-deaf, off-key singing would be funnier. He was right, of course.
Zeo was one of my all-time favorite seasons in the Power Rangers franchise. The rangers were growing up, the stakes were raised, we got both new villains in the form of the Machine Empire while we kept Rita and Zedd. The only downside was how they treated Billy (David Yost) on and behind the camera.
I actually started leaving Power Rangers during Zeo. It wasn’t until I saw commercials for Power Rangers in Space that brought me back into the franchise and to this day is my favorite season.
A lot of people share this experience. MMPR declined after season one. By Zeo-Turbo, most people had tuned out. In Space revived the franchise with a fresh edge. It kickstarted the era that continued with Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force, Wild Force, and culminated in Forever Red. The original Power Rangers decade.
For me, Alien Rangers and Zeo were the best series of the franchise. Yeah, the "kid" aspect was meh, but the alien Rangers and the zords were S Tier. Especially that giant Shogun Zord. And Zeo, hands down the coolest zords and costums. Not to mention the Machine Empire was so badass.
Personally, I felt at the time that apart from the Gold Ranger, the Zeo suits were absolutely hideous. Then came the Turbo suits. Skip back to awesome for In Space, only to fall into the ugliest of all with Lost Galaxy and the blasted Charlie Brown zigzag. No more stinkers until Cosmic Fury (they really should've just used the Kyuuranger suits and changers).
@@DragoonMS aside from the zig zag, I liked Lost Galaxy. It's "American" story was ok, but all in all I loved the zords, and villains. Turbo on the other hand was just awful, down to the who car concept. Definitely the worst zord in my opinion.
one reason there was no mention of the Machine Empire in the Turbo movie was because Mondo and the rest of the royal family were destroyed (more blown to spare parts but still alive) in the final episode of Zeo, and Kat does morph into Zeo Ranger 1 - Pink in a jungle scene.
They also really do pick up exactly where they left off in zeo - Jason depowered, back to the core 5, machine empire was destroyed at the end here, Rita and zedd back on the moon. The only gap is bulk and skull being police officers again. And it’s a bit vague on the power change. It’s really the main turbo show that drops the ball since Rita and zedd disappear along with the rest of the zeo arsenal.
turbo was suppose to be a 4 hour masterpiece. they cut out lotta footage like kat and Tommy fighting the alligator monster with a flamethrower...that scene was shown on the back of the vhs
@@Sjb99-f1s Why were they police officers though? They never advanced beyond the Junior Police Patrol, never went to France, and their private detective licenses were probably expired. They were wearing the same uniform as Lt. Stone, so they weren't security guards either, but they looked great in black!
@@RoosterMontgomerytrue - junior police I guess. I mean that’s really the only unexplained gap in the story though. Even the turbo powers do get an explanation - that they needed morphers that mimicked lerigots key to have those powers work on their mission. The zeo powers being retooled on that basis is a reasonable assumption, and they just built a new megazord because why not add another one? and it’s pretty obvious they couldn’t bring the whole established arsenal along for the trip on the boat! (Why a car theme for this mission seems like the weak sauce)
Every time I watched Cody Rhodes wrestle as Stardust it just reminded me of the Red Ranger from this season. No idea if that was the inspiration, but still funny to me now.
I always assumed that Stardust was at least partially inspired by "Starman" from the NES game "Pro Wrestling". (And by someone sitting around and thinking of other compound words that end in Dust so that the Rhodes Bros. could have a unified theme. Coaldust? Pixiedust?)
There's actually a very big reference to Zeo in the Turbo Movie. There's a scene where Catherine trys to morph into the pink Zeo ranger while she's falling from a cliff.
Things did not go well for the original rangers after the show. One dead in a car accident, one death by suicide, and one awaiting trial in a fraud case with up to a million dollar fine and 30 years in prison if convicted.
I actually watched Power Rangers at the time it was coming out. Caught Mighty Morphin reruns and some of Turbo when it aired, but Zeo came and went so quickly I didn't find out about it til i revisited the series years later. (Short of the quick view of the Zeo powers in the Turbo movie)
Ahhh Zeo.... This particular season holds a very special place in my heart for a number of reasons. First off, I was on the older side of the fandom. I was 10 when PR premiered. So by the time Zeo premiered, I was 13 (actually turning 13 on the day it premiered). I think it should have been obvious Zeo was the next step. But I remember being stunned at the end of Hogday Afternoon II when the Command Center was blown up and not knowing if that was it for the show. I don't recall the timing after of when the "It's Coming" ad campaign began. But for some reason, I don't think it connected it was advertising Zeo. It wasn't until I read a blurb on upcoming kids shows in the Boston Herald that Power Rangers Zeo was to premiere that spring. Blew my mind, at the time, tthat the show was coming back and in that way. It premiering on my birthday, April 20th, made it even sweeter. Anyways, it's one of the many reasons I have such fondness for Zeo. Amongst others, it's my favorite PR theme in terms of the motif (and theme song).
I remember the switch to Zeo and loved it. Of course I was going into 5th grade by the time Zeo ended and it wasn't cool to be a Power Ranger fan anymore so it was time to give it up. Turbo sucked so I didn't miss much. I did end up getting laid off from work when Dino Thunder was coming out and ended up watching for nostalgia which was perfect being an entire episode was nostalgia. Note Serpentera got its final haza in the 10 year anniversary however Dragonzord is still under the sea and is the only remaining original series zord. I await its return.
It's such a mind trick when I go back and think of Power Rangers. As a child, I was part of the OG first season/cast here in america. I didnt even know about the original Japanese version until I was maybe in my late teens, and that was long since I stopped watching. Power rangers felt like some years long all life and time consuming era. And when I go back and really examine how far I got, I realize that I only watched season one, and got disinterested somewhere around season 2 when the new cast members replaced some of the OG rangers. Then they changed the zords... then the movies made a million changes and the suits became those ninja robes. Anyhow, my point is that I never saw anything past mid season 2, and it still felt like some life consuming thing lol. Time is so weird when you're a little kid.
Even though MMPR was every 90s kid’s favorite action show and it was hard to imagine anything but MMPR existing, I still liked the show growing up and I like it now. It still felt relevant and they acknowledged where they came from. I honestly think they could’ve kept MMPR going for longer than it did and maybe end it on a triumphant note, but to ease viewers in on the idea of a new title each season was genius from a marketing perspective. The only misstep was not ending Zeo on a more definitive note and not leave us wondering whatever happened to the Zeo powers as they just disappear and reappear without any explanation. But besides that, the series is still good and honestly to me, this is where the cannon story ends. I stopped watching after this as a kid so I didn’t really grow up with anything beyond this, plus this is where the story stops being good. I know ppl love in space but I didn’t watch it as a kid, turbo killed my interest in the show.
Small correction (sorry to nitpick). On Forever Red, all the red rangers except Rocky were in the episode. It was all but 1 previous red rangers in the episode.
It was all 10 rangers. There could not be two red rangers from the same season, they preferred Jason there and I actually liked it and I hate Rocky for replacing Jason as the Red Ranger all thanks to Saban's greed and arrogance.
Kat literally attempts to morph to Zeo Ranger 1, Pink (even showing the Zeonizers and her morph attempt) but it fails before whe hit the water in the Turbo movie
Fun fact: three of the original Ranger actors (Austin St. John/Jason, Walter Emmanuel Jones/Zack, and Thuy Trang/Trini) wanted to unionize MMPR after things started to take off so they could get better pay. The plan fell apart and the three left. Some other people who worked on the show commented on this years later and stated the reason why a union wasn’t going to work was because apparently Saban had been planning to have a yearly rotation of actors for a while: they just wouldn’t be there long enough for it to actually work, so it sounds like that plan was doomed from the start.
@@RoosterMontgomery very true, Power Rangers is/was a remarkably cheap show. He’s applied that formula with almost all of his Tokusatsu adapted properties.
First off, Thank You, Dan, for doing a segment about Zeo!!! Made me really happy to see a whole episode of your show talking about it!! I know EVERYONE knows and remembers Mighty Morphin, and always will, BUT....I was one of the few who got MAJOR hyped for Zeo, with all of their "It's Comin!" commercials laser etching the Zeo Symbols into gold. I was sooo stoked for the new suits, Zords, weapons and Morphers (Especially that Zeonizer, which is *Still* my fave Morpher!!) I couldn't wait for the new show! Zeo stands today as still being my fave of almost all of the above categories. Super Zeo Megazord is still my favorite Megazord! Zeo will always have my adoration as a fanboy, no matter what else comes along.
Being born in 86, I was the perfect age when Power Rangers debuted. Zeo is my second favorite intro theme and I liked it overall but by 1996 I was fully into Star Wars with POTF2.
The fact they threw away Zeo without explanation always got me. I always through they should have written the Turbo movie such that that movie was the bridge to not only the Turbo powers, but passing the torch to the Turbo team (TJ, Cassie, etc.). They could have easily made it so that at the end of the Turbo movie, Zordon and Alpha need to go to Eltar like they did in the show and the Zeo Team go with them, ending the movie leaving the Earth in the Turbo Team's capable hands. Much better than having the Zeo Team use the Turbo powers for the movie and a few episodes then pass them on because they "grew up". Also a better way to introduce Justin than "Oh, Rocky hurt his back for a week, no Turbo powers for him"
It's crazy to me as a kid in the '90s and a huge power rangers fan, I was completely unaware at the time that it was a repurposed Japanese show. It's funny to think back on just how little information we had about everything before the internet.
I this around season 2 and reruns of season 1, I kept seeing “based on ‘Zyuranger’” and “based on Dairanger’” in the end credits. Bothered me for awhile until I looked it up on the internet. Wasn’t much info in those days, but I finally pieced it together. Explains the reused footage (“Why does Dragonzord go after that same damned smokestack?”) Funny enough, my little cousin (also a fan at that time) was the first to point out that the toys were used for some footage in S3, specifically the “Ultrazord” docking configuration with Titanus (clearly Titanus wasn’t native to the Kakuranger mecha)
Zeo is one of my favorite PR seasons. Even though it was mostly more of the same, it was just polished and thought out better than the previous 3 seasons. They probably should of done this suit change sooner. If you’re still a fan of MMPR and haven’t watched ZEO, I highly recommend it. Pretty sure all episodes are on TH-cam. Thanks for the video, I strongly suggest going over the history of Turbo & In Space as well
As a series I truly love the Zeo generation. There was one story which for a long time I had a problem with which was the 3-part episode about Tommy moving on from Kimberly after getting a “Dear John” letter. For a long time this was my least favorite part of the season but after I thought about it more and I went through a break-up of my own I came to appreciate this story more but I still find the first episode of that arc very awkward in terms of content. Overall though I really liked how much soap opera there was in the Zeo era and I think that’s one of this season’s biggest strengths. Thank you for covering more Power Rangers content. Looking forward to seeing how your later Power Ranger videos will look.
Zeo really got Power Rangers back on track. I do think Turbo was another misstep. But found a way to move the franchise forward new casts in each series like its source.
Zeo is as great and was definitely a departure from what we had in the previous 3 seasons of MMPR but continuity was maintained and it was all one big story arc that lasted until the end of In Space. But Zeo marked the beginning of the end for veteran rangers as once Turbo hit, the veterans left after a few episodes along with Zordon and Alpha. Oddly enough the Turbo movie came out and did not explain what happened to the Zeo powers. They just shifted into Turbo with no explanation, with one scene of Kat trying to morph before falling into a river. That was it. The powers themselves werent seen until Tommy used them in Forever Red
That Scorpios reign story is nuts, I'd love to be able to spread a lie for so long and convince people just a little bit at least and then make it canon myself.
Yeah I knew that Amit Bhaumik considered it canon when he wrote Forever Red but I didn't know that he was one of the people behind the hoax as well. That's nuts!
You and Benny were definitely the one-two punch of comic TH-cam. I’d bounce back and forth between your channels for hours at times. You guys got me into supporting comic shops and buying the graphic novels of the stories you covered. My condolences. 💐
_Mighty Morphin'_ ended with a stretch where the heroes were turned into kids, and I remember being happy when they finally got turned back, then the Command Center blew up in the same episode, and I was on the edge of my seat wanting to see what happened next. When _Zeo_ started, I was fine with the new powers, but they also replaced Rita and Zedd with the Machine Empire. I was fine with the Machine Empire existing, but I was hoping for a three-way conflict between the Rangers, Rita and Zedd, and the Machines. But Rita and Zedd left, and they didn't seem to be coming back, so I kinda lost interest. Now, I did later learn that Rita and Zedd did pop up again from time to time, but I didn't really hop back on board the Ranger train until sometime partway through _Space._
Yeah once ASJ returned as the new Gold Ranger, Zedd and Rita played an active part again until the end of the season. It was the three-way conflict you hoped for, even including them briefly becoming the rulers of the Machine Empire through proxy (they created a monster loyal to them that took over leadership of the Empire) when Mondo foolishly thought he could take down the mighty Super Zeo Megazord, and lost, creating a power vacuum. That zord was a total monster. All the more reason Turbo was such a huge letdown. Zedd & Rita go to all that trouble....restore their place as the biggest threat to Earth, and re-establish their position on the Moon Palace....and then just walk away and let sassy but-lame Divatox play alpha bad-guy? Like WTH?! Man, the transition from Zeo to Turbo was handled so badly on so many levels.
Zeo forever. This is when my dumb kid brain began to not be as dumb. The transition from Turbo to Space is the first epic event I recall. Zeo, Turbo, Space will always have a special place in me heart.
To this day, I wish the Zeo Rangers would've said "Go Zeo" instead of "It's Morphin' Time", before morphing. The phrase is right there in the theme song, and it plays into the idea that everything we knew about the Power Rangers up to that point is - as Zordon himself says in the season opener - "gone forever".
I was 8 when Zeo started. whatever new Power Rangers anything came out, I ate that shit up lol. but recently, after re visiting Zeo, Turbo and Space.. Zeo is actually pretty good. then Flabber came and flabbed all over the place LOL
Scorpion Reign may not exist, but the events in it seem to, if the guy who made the hoax then wrote an episode referring to the events of Scorpion Reign having happened off screen.
I use to love Jason David Frank’s role as Tommy Oliver as a kid, when he would play the white ranger that was taken from Dairanger and it’s too bad that I never got the chance to meet him in person, so I could have his autograph and I do know that he will be missed from my childhood.
I remember when it came out and thinking that changing it up was interesting. But I had an issue with Zeo in that I couldn't figure out what the motif was supposed to be. I mean, their power source was some kind of crystal. And the Rangers had shapes on their helmets and numbers for names (for example, Tommy was Zeo Ranger 5). And for zords, there was a phoenix, a bull, a sphinx and . . . two other things (I know in Ohranhger they were a Moai statue and a dogu figure. But I don't think it was ever stated on Zeo).
I feel Zeo was the black sheep of the Fox Kids era Power Rangers, it wasn’t the real MMPR successor that fans wanted until Turbo, which is why Saban went to Turbo for the sequel, since it had more action, especially for the older kids.
@@MnemonicSyntax Turbo series was more successful than Zeo, but the Turbo movie came out right when the original fans started to outgrow the franchise. I was in middle school when it came out, I went on a brief hiatus with Power Rangers, because I watched more cartoons like Gargoyles and X Men.
@@Markimark151 it wasn't. Turbo nearly killed Power Rangers. In fact, Turbo was so bad that Justin Nimmo and Christopher Khayman Lee are on record saying that Space was to be the last PR series because Turbo was so bad. Space turned viewership around and saved PR. This is why Countdown to Destruction happened and Lost Galaxy was essentially a soft reboot, loosely tying the series together with Alpha and the Megaship.
"STRONGER THAN BEFORREEEEEE!!!!!! GOOOOOOO ZEEEEOOOOOOOO!!!!!" Ah man 1996 as a kid was dope. Wasn't into this series as much as the previous one, but Tommy's red ranger suit was dope with the star as the visor. I might have to go see Ohranger in it's original entirety, but I've heard some not-so-great things about that chapter of Super Sentai.
Yeah as soon as you said an Australian only bit, I was like ahh no, I would have remembered that as a kid as I live in Australia lol. However, interesting information, the monorail that is used in MMPR the movie is the old Sydney monorail, at the end of its life there was a big closing celebration, and they asked myself and another person to be power rangers as they wanted celebrate the monorail being in film as well, and that was a big part of the Sydney monorail trains history.
A friend of mine I met in the early 00s was the first person to tell me how old the power rangers were in Japan and we were just using some of their past stuff. He would import seasons from Japan and I know it was some versions of their rangers(I remember an angel themed 1 and maybe a pirate 1) that would never go over here
Power Rangers Zeo started swapping out the powers every seasons, but they really didn’t start swapping out cast members until Power Rangers Lost Galaxy. I should also mention that Power Rangers did Aisha and Billy’s actors during all this.
WOW! THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! I absolutely loved it! Yes, Zeo changed things and I really appreciate you breaking down why some of the things happened like bringing back Jason. Would have rather seen Tommy as Gold and Jason take back Red.
Dan refers to Tanya as the third Yellow Ranger. Tideus: "Am I a joke to you?" EDIT: I made my comment before finishing the video and later saw Dan correct himself.
If my information serves correctly, after the battle of Master Vile.. Lord Zedd ordered the power coins be captured and destroyed. Unfortunately, his plan suceeded and the Rangers having been put in a bad situation were forced to hand over their coins to Goldar who promptly destroyed the coins in front of them rendering them powerless. It was at this point that Master Vile reversed time reducing thr Rangers to meter children. In a last ditch attempt to find a new power source, each one of the Rangers would have to embark on a mission into the past to recover the 5 pieces of the Zeo Crystals. As we already know, the Rangers had encountered the Zeo Crystal before hand and were forced to reduce the Crystal into its 5 subsets. And then Zordon had the crystals thrown into the time portal to separated into different time periods of the past to keep Zedd and Rita from getting their hands on them. But now, 5 Rangers would have to make a perilous quest into the past and retrieve the crystals. With the help of the Alien Rangers, the quest was completed and only with the crystal in its complete form would restore the Rangers to their normal ages and reverse Vile's time warp.
I distinctly remember as a kid having the Gold Ranger's identity spoiled by a toy commercial. It was one of those figures where the head spins around between morphed and unmorphed.
Not gonna lie Ayisha and Tawnya were interchangeable and exactly for the reason you’d think. It is what it is, don’t call me and ‘ist’ they’re the ones that swapped two very similar looking…individuals as the same colored ranger haha
Turbo: A Power Rangers movie did actually serve as a bridge between Zeo and Turbo. There was around 40 minutes of footage deleted from the film that actually showed what happened to the Turbo Powers. Divatox destroyed them in a battle. If I'm not mistaken King Mondo and the Machine Empire were also run off. Since then very little of the footage has ever been seen.
I feel that's what gave some of the later series a more authentic feeling. When they knew they where only getting one season with the characters they made a bigger point of properly giving arcs to at lest some rangers.
I was a big fan of the Power Rangers franchise, especially when my idol Jason David Frank was on there. I like to hear you talk about other shows I watched during my childhood, such as Star Wars Droids and Ewoks, including the live action TV series of the Degrassi franchise.
Never expected to see Scorpion Rain covered as part of this video. But its always cool to see something like that acknowledged. For what its worth, Bhaumik also considered some Power Rangers comics canon to explain how Jason got his morpher back.
11:30 Lol that commercial used the Ohranger Robo. You know it's the Japanese version cause it has all the chrome. The American release removed all the chrome except for the Lion and Bison head on top of making the chrome on the US version lighter.
I actually am one of the worlds top Power Rangers fans (i earned the title by once owning one of the largest collections in the world i had to sell most of after my daughters Kendrix and Kendall who are both named after Power Rangers were born.) I would love to see a episode on each season!!!! I hope you get the views you need to keep going with it!
last year i tried rewatching power rangers up to and passed the point i stopped at as a youth, got all the way to the end of power rangers in space, which is exactly where i stopped last time, and couldn't continue as i kept getting migraines, no idea why
Man. That tv add for the show is something. They super tease "the future", but they never show the new suits or zords. Kudos to them. Nowadays the plot of the next 2 seasons would have been revealed
I think the silliest 'people want to believe' thing was the ten-year long thread on the IMDB for 'Can't Buy Me Love' in which people kept arguing there had been nudity in a certain scene. It went on and on and on...
RIP Jason David Frank aka Tommy. We miss you soooo much.

And Saban doesn't get enough credit for how well they set up the change months before hand. The non canon mini series before the episode proper, the slow reveal of the Zeo logo with the promise of "It's coming!"

Ikr, that was a surprise even for an adult (turning 28) like me. I would've guessed Billy or David, but never Jason.
It's ironic that the in the Mighty Morphin seasons, the Rangers use technology and the villians use magic; while in Zeo the Rangers use magic while the villians use technology.
Linkara BS
I always thought the Rangers had some magic too
it seems to be a running theme through most of the series tbh
I never notice.
That’s not ironic but I know what you mean
Always love the Zeo rangers theme. And enjoyed the return of Jason as the gold zeo ranger.
I was so hyped for Zeo. It was also my last Power Rangers, but I remember it fondly
Agreed 👍🏾
All effort to transition MMPR into PRZ was ruined in one fell swoop by PRT. The MMPR/PRZ veterans should have gone into space!
Fox Kids What a time to be alive
🙌🏾
When they did the episode where Tommy and Tanya could only communicate through singing, they offered to dub in a singing voice for Jason David Frank. He turned it down because he thought the audience hearing his real, tone-deaf, off-key singing would be funnier. He was right, of course.
I'll never forget Johhny Yong Bosch telling a horror story of how JDF showed him how to, unwillingly, bake an air biscuit in a car with the heater.
I've always loved Power Rangers Zeo and the music in the opening credits always gave me goosebumps, I love it ❤️ ❤❤
Zeo was one of my all-time favorite seasons in the Power Rangers franchise.
@@jonathanward8967 Oh, the story was absolutely top notch for Lost Galaxy.
@@DragoonMS And don't forget the horrid peppermint ranger suits in Lightspeed rescue.
one reason there was no mention of the Machine Empire in the Turbo movie was because Mondo and the rest of the royal family were destroyed (more blown to spare parts but still alive) in the final episode of Zeo, and Kat does morph into Zeo Ranger 1 - Pink in a jungle scene.
My brother still collects the merchandise. He's 50.
In the turbo movie, Kat jumps off a cliff and tries to use her zeo morpher 🤣🤣 so some is there to connect it.
RIP OG American Green Ranger. Tommy had a really tragic end. He was pretty much everyone's favorite.
Jason Voorhees snuck in there at 12:18 wtf 😆
Wow, good catch! Seriously, wtf?!
i love looking for him every episode.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 right
@@ceno10101 Every episode?
Imagine what could've been if David Yost hadn't been harrassed and he had been the Gold Ranger...
it would be cool 😎
That part and the transition to Turbo would’ve made more sense since earlier drafts mention that he played a part in making those powers
boohoo
if he wasn't so soft and left he coulda made turbo make more sense. he was suppose to make the turbo morphers but he got too butthurt
@@YEE941nah . What they did to him still wasn’t right at all
Even though MMPR was every 90s kid’s favorite action show and it was hard to imagine anything but MMPR existing, I still liked the show growing up and I like it now.
Sort of glad it got changed, Time Force was my favourite and RPM was also excellent.
The voice of Alpha-5 was Richard Horvitz.
Invader Zim himself.
Those were my favorite Zords (because they were the only ones I owned).
I still have this theme song on my workout mix. It still goes HARD. This was one of the best MMPR seasons
Zeo ranger 5 red ! First season after alien rangers to use both new suit footage along with the mecha , enemy and settings ! Loved power rangers zeo
Saban never wanted to spend any real money. Buy low, sell high was the plan from the start. For a billionaire, he's incredibly cheap.
So we’ve all heard of MILFs but Divatox was my first VILF.
Also a better way to introduce Justin than "Oh, Rocky hurt his back for a week, no Turbo powers for him"
How The Critic Became a Cult Classic After being cancelled by ABC and Fox
It stinks. But it would be s better topic than some recent ones. BTW I liked the show and own it on DVD
Oh yeah that's another idea for this channel.
FOX has a bad reputation for misjudging talent and quality. See Family Guy
(Then again….they DID give us The Simpsons and Married w/ Children….)
Explains the reused footage (“Why does Dragonzord go after that same damned smokestack?”)
Funny enough, my little cousin (also a fan at that time) was the first to point out that the toys were used for some footage in S3, specifically the “Ultrazord” docking configuration with Titanus (clearly Titanus wasn’t native to the Kakuranger mecha)
The powers themselves werent seen until
Tommy used them in Forever Red
That Scorpios reign story is nuts, I'd love to be able to spread a lie for so long and convince people just a little bit at least and then make it canon myself.
Yeah I knew that Amit Bhaumik considered it canon when he wrote Forever Red but I didn't know that he was one of the people behind the hoax as well. That's nuts!
It was the last season I ended up watching. Always liked the Gold Ranger, the design was absolutely killer.
@@KotCRAgree. They needed to make the movie the transition, cause doing it piecemeal during the season was a disaster.
I would love to visit the House of the Book one day it is a beautiful structure I hope it isn’t demolished in my lifetime.(Zordons command center)
Zeo Ranger V Red! Underrated and Jason's return as temporary 2nd Gold.
I still have the Zords for Zeo. Even the little dude that was a tire.
I was 8 when Zeo started. whatever new Power Rangers anything came out, I ate that shit up lol. but recently, after re visiting Zeo, Turbo and Space.. Zeo is actually pretty good. then Flabber came and flabbed all over the place LOL
Thank you for the mention of alien rangers!! 😂 I was so interested in this team and still to this day would love a season of this
The Power Rangers Zeo is a fun follow-up of the MMPR Rangers seasons. I love the Zordan era seasons.
here just to say what I say in every PR video....Jetman is better :P (Im wrong, but love jetman)
Scorpion Reign may not exist, but the events in it seem to, if the guy who made the hoax then wrote an episode referring to the events of Scorpion Reign having happened off screen.
I had never watched PR and during COVID I decided to dive in. I've only gotten thru In Space but Zeo is by far my favorite season so far.
I use to love Jason David Frank’s role as Tommy Oliver as a kid, when he would play the white ranger that was taken from Dairanger and it’s too bad that I never got the chance to meet him in person, so I could have his autograph and I do know that he will be missed from my childhood.
I remember mighty morphing but zeo is the season that i will forever love the theme song still gives me chills
I owned the Super Zeo Megazord as a kid
I remember when it came out and thinking that changing it up was interesting. But I had an issue with Zeo in that I couldn't figure out what the motif was supposed to be. I mean, their power source was some kind of crystal. And the Rangers had shapes on their helmets and numbers for names (for example, Tommy was Zeo Ranger 5). And for zords, there was a phoenix, a bull, a sphinx and . . . two other things (I know in Ohranhger they were a Moai statue and a dogu figure. But I don't think it was ever stated on Zeo).
I think it was Tommy’s girlish long hair that changed the Power Rangers forever😂
I feel Zeo was the black sheep of the Fox Kids era Power Rangers, it wasn’t the real MMPR successor that fans wanted until Turbo, which is why Saban went to Turbo for the sequel, since it had more action, especially for the older kids.
No, he went to Turbo next because Carranger was next. Turbo was a failure thanks to Justin.
@@MnemonicSyntax you know those actors were only meant for one season, they’re replaceable actors.
@@Markimark151 yes, but it still doesn't deny that Space was slated to be the last season. Your point isn't applicable here.
Thanks! Zeo was one of my faves
Great episode! Your love for Tokusatsu always shines! Catch the sun! Follow the sun!

A friend of mine I met in the early 00s was the first person to tell me how old the power rangers were in Japan and we were just using some of their past stuff. He would import seasons from Japan and I know it was some versions of their rangers(I remember an angel themed 1 and maybe a pirate 1) that would never go over here
Aahhh, “Goseiger” (angels) and my beloved “Gokaiger” (Space Pirates)
I just freakin love the Jason micro cuts. You're my heroes.
Tideus: "Am I a joke to you?"
EDIT: I made my comment before finishing the video and later saw Dan correct himself.
He corrects himself later on and clarifies that "the space fish guy" is the 3rd yellow ranger 😅
12:18 wrong jason lol
I distinctly remember as a kid having the Gold Ranger's identity spoiled by a toy commercial. It was one of those figures where the head spins around between morphed and unmorphed.
Fighting puddies were my favorite parts of the original show. If they had done the same with cogs, I think it would have helped the show.
Big Wolf on Campus … when ?
I feel like the Rangers didn’t really grow. They kind of stagnated while stuff happened to them.
I feel that's what gave some of the later series a more authentic feeling. When they knew they where only getting one season with the characters they made a bigger point of properly giving arcs to at lest some rangers.
9:38 No mention of Austin St. John returning to be the black ranger?
Dash! Dash! Ohranger…
Hard to believe Dan is an AI driven cgi bot thing...looks so lifelike, but you can see some of the glitches....😮
I was a big fan of the Power Rangers franchise, especially when my idol Jason David Frank was on there.
I like to hear you talk about other shows I watched during my childhood, such as Star Wars Droids and Ewoks, including the live action TV series of the Degrassi franchise.
You got something wrong. Turbo a Power Ranger movie was a bridge Kat Morphs into Zeo Pink for a small moment. Also they are in the same Power Chamber
Best theme song!
