@@PreachermanDV it was never as easy as using rocket boots + slow fall or glider. generally you needed to make the game think that you're not in a fatigue zone, which used to be as easy as getting a warlock summon while inside fatigue already. (this was the very first way i can recall) getting through the invisible walls was done using either 2-seater mounts or placeable chair doodads so you can displace your position forward through it (the earliest ways i can remember to clip through vertical walls). also you generally wanted to be a shaman for the second fatigue zone that you can see near the end of the video to ankh. it might have been easy to get there very very early in vanilla, but they did a lot of patching up the holes as time went by, ultimately removing the island entirely...
dude back in the day when i spent my time smoking weed, eating pizza, shit posting 4chan, and grinding this game when i should have been studying for mid terms. Those were the days man...
This is a classic video of when WoW use to be good, enjoyable and GM's use to appear / interact in front of people This video aged like fine wine the fact he used GameCam or Fraps etc to record potato quality lol recording anything way back in 2005 - 2007 was nightmare however given the quality of the video it has charm
Imagine being a Blizzard Gamemaster, and banning some random player for managing to get to one of the most impossible to reach locations in the game. Hell I'd whisper to them "It's a secret to everyone" and teleport them out, maybe somewhere where there's high level elites that would one-shot them, then respond with "lol" and end the convo (that outdoor raid area in Winterspring comes to mind).
He didn't get banned for being on GM island, he got banned for using a model editor to get there which is a serious offense(he was also insulting and trolling the GM). Model editors are programs that can be used to cheat the game and gain a massive unfair advantage over other players, hence being against the TOS. He was only temp banned for 3 days, whereas nowadays you get permabanned if you're caught using one. Also, GM's had to follow a strict code of conduct, they weren't allowed to punish players at their own discretion. If a specific rule was broken, there was a specific written down punishment that a GM had to dish out, whether they wanted to or not. In this case the player was caught using a model editor, which resulted in a 3 day temp ban. The GM didn't make the rule, they were just doing their job by enforcing it, and not enforcing it could have costed them their job.
David Ray, who worked Tools and Database for WoW, said this about GM isle in a Reddit AMA: "...the purpose of GM isle, was to have a place where all the invisible avatars of the GM's could be, while they chatted with the players, so they were out of the way of the game. They could also summon players there, to force them to pay attention, because there was no way off the island. Until it became a thing to try and see the island, and people were intentionally misbehaving to try and see it." My thoughts are that what the GM thought that another GM had summoned the PC there for bad misconduct, and that's the reason why it was a "serious problem", not just because they were there.
This was from the golden era when games were rendered via potato.

@@PreachermanDV it was never as easy as using rocket boots + slow fall or glider.
generally you needed to make the game think that you're not in a fatigue zone, which used to be as easy as getting a warlock summon while inside fatigue already. (this was the very first way i can recall)
getting through the invisible walls was done using either 2-seater mounts or placeable chair doodads so you can displace your position forward through it (the earliest ways i can remember to clip through vertical walls).
also you generally wanted to be a shaman for the second fatigue zone that you can see near the end of the video to ankh.
it might have been easy to get there very very early in vanilla, but they did a lot of patching up the holes as time went by, ultimately removing the island entirely...
dude back in the day when i spent my time smoking weed, eating pizza, shit posting 4chan, and grinding this game when i should have been studying for mid terms. Those were the days man...
Back when GM’s were a part of the game culture. Now… Urgh.
Anyone 2025?)
Maybe 😅
Awe your character is so cute
This is a classic video of when WoW use to be good, enjoyable and GM's use to appear / interact in front of people
This video aged like fine wine the fact he used GameCam or Fraps etc to record potato quality lol recording anything way back in 2005 - 2007 was nightmare however given the quality of the video it has charm
That one time when GM cares about their game.
"Lets make an island that if you find it and go out of curiosity, you get banned."
He wasn't banned for going to GM Island. He was banned for editing game files which enabled him to go there.
Imagine being a Blizzard Gamemaster, and banning some random player for managing to get to one of the most impossible to reach locations in the game. Hell I'd whisper to them "It's a secret to everyone" and teleport them out, maybe somewhere where there's high level elites that would one-shot them, then respond with "lol" and end the convo (that outdoor raid area in Winterspring comes to mind).
winterspring didnt even exist when this video came out
Pretty sure he didn't get banned for going to GM island lol
@@HealhoeGaming are you thinking of wintergrasp? because winterspring very much did
He didn't get banned for being on GM island, he got banned for using a model editor to get there which is a serious offense(he was also insulting and trolling the GM).
That would be funny.
Port him to the middle of org.

That's why they burned it in battle for azeroth xD

Take me back to when Wow was so good i never left home
David Ray, who worked Tools and Database for WoW, said this about GM isle in a Reddit AMA: "...the purpose of GM isle, was to have a place where all the invisible avatars of the GM's could be, while they chatted with the players, so they were out of the way of the game. They could also summon players there, to force them to pay attention, because there was no way off the island. Until it became a thing to try and see the island, and people were intentionally misbehaving to try and see it."
My thoughts are that what the GM thought that another GM had summoned the PC there for bad misconduct, and that's the reason why it was a "serious problem", not just because they were there.
It might make sense if I was recording it with a camera, but considering I'm not and this was recorded years ago it's hardly funny
