      No good for my desired setup of 75 - 90 gallon with discus. The hang on back 50 X 2 would work if the heaters were adjustible. May go with a Oase canister if the heater is adjustible that comes with it do you know?

    Thank you for the review. I always love watching your videos. I bought the Biostyle 30. Very nice design, easy to set up and quiet. Not totally silent. There is a bit of motor hum, but it is not obnoxious. I gave it the 15 minute power outage test and it restarted with no problems. Cartridges are expensive at $18.00 for 4 of them ($4.50 per cartridge). Oase does sell an empty cartridge which allows you to choose media. Maybe someone will do a video of how to modify the filter so you don't have to buy the cartridges. Thanks

    I love seeing HOB filter evolution. The integrated heater is a step in the right direction. But why stop there? I’d love to see a large HOB which houses a heater, uses a DC pump and has a control pad which lets you select flow rate and temp.

      It's called marketing manipulation. They could offer what we want but instead implement one aspect of upgrade at a time as to draw in sales in a controlled and what I call manipulative marketing manner. Think of your computer and software or cell.

    Looks nice but I think I have my doubts. Wish they had a hang on the back that was self-priming had a huge customizable basket with no skimmer feature like on the tidal.
    I have aqua clear and I have tidal HOB's and I just think they could be a smidge better.
    We need like a cross between the Aqua clear and the Tidal. I think they should come with pre-filters. Also they should have about two and a half times more customizable media storage. It would be cool to be able to put the heater inside, but it definitely needs to be adjustable.
    Interested to see how this one works out for you. Thanks for your content.

    I've seen some people keep the tank level so low that when the power's interrupted the HOB siphons empty.
    Probably not an ideal situation for a HOB with a submersible heater inside.

      Really? My experience with Oase has always been mediocre. Not bad, mind you. But not so much better than my Fluvals, Aquaclears, Tidals, etc to justify a 25% extra markup.

      @@b1oh1 Each to their own. It speaks volumes that all of the top aquascapers seem to use them over anything else.
      I use 2 Fluvals on mine (207 and 406). I don't think that these are as well engineered as the Oase canisters, but they don't need to be. They are good for what I need them for (decent filtration on a 75 gallon aquarium)
      I think if you are just running a basic aquarium, they might just be a bit overkill.

    Follow up on the Oase Biostyle filter. It kept making a knocking noise. I finally figured out that it was the part that let's you know when the filter cartridges need to be changed. Apparently, the water flowing around it causes it to move and make a noise. Solved the problem by pulling the blue tab out and twist tying it. Of course, it is useless now, but at least I don't have to hear the periodic knocking sound. Bad design Oase.

    I've gotten two of the 850 Biomaster Thermos for the 220 gallon tank I'm setting up in the next couple weeks.
    ***Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken***, but the water travels from bottom to top thru the trays after the pre-filter on the pipe.
    What I've noticed is mine came with Black (60 PPI) filters on the pre-filter, which will obviously cause premature clogging, so I'm replacing it with Blue (20 PPI) sponges.
    Unfortunately, Oase doesn't offer Black (60 PPI) filter for the trays, so I've ordered some generic sheets that I'll cut to fit the trays.
    Additionally, I've ordered additional Orange (30 PPI) sponges for the trays.
    So, following the replacement Blue (60 PPI) sponges on the pre-filter, my planned order *from bottom to top* is:
    Tray #1) 0.6 inch bio-balls with tiny sponges (loose in the bottom tray) from Amazon
    Tray #2) Blue sponge (20 PPI)
    Tray #3) Blue sponge (20 PPI)
    Tray #4) 2 of the thinner Orange sponges (30 PPI)
    Tray #5) Black sponge (60 PPI)
    Tray #6) Black sponge (60 PPI)
    Tray #7) Bags of Purigen (In the thinner top tray)
    ***Can anyone think of anything I've overlooked or see anthing I've got out of order?***

    I actually don't like HOBs that put the pumps inside of the tank--they emit vibrations right into the tank with the fish. You can literally feel the vibrations if you put your hand right next to the pump. You can even hear it, too, transmitting through the water. So, I'm glad Oase didn't do this. The heater, though, I'm a little iffy about. I actually like to run my tanks a little cool. Also, what happens when the water is siphoned out of the filter? Is there a safety shut off for the heater?

    Have you had any issues with this filter just shutting off on you? Full of water, nitrogen dirty, but just shuts off? Lol I’ve had mine for a few months and this is a periodical issue. You know what filters I NEVER have issues with? Aqueon Quiet Flow series of HOBs.

      @@PrimeTimeAquaticsI have a sand capped soil 14 gallon cube. Every once in a while the impeller gets stuck, and feels super rough when pulling it out. But I love the water movement when the water is high enough. As for the Tidal 55… it starts making loud noises when the surface skimmer gets clogged with duckweed. The problem is, I love my surface fauna haha.

    @somedude2455 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You can tell that this filter was designed by engineers who aren’t fish keepers. The intake tube is clear. Any aquarist will know that the cube will be covered in algae in a week, and it will look unappealing. Oase markets their products to high end aquascaper. I would have assumed that they would’ve accounted for that, but they didn’t. This is why I like Cory so much and how he’s honest about Oase’s products. It’s unacceptable that the English translation for a canister filter was left incorrect for so long and caused so many water leaks.
    Now I’m not implying that you’re being dishonest in this review. It’s a great product and 90% of the decisions are great. There’s just some things that I don’t like and it’s a recurrent problem with Oase.

    • @joewwilliams
      @joewwilliams 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      "High end aquascapers" clean their tanks and filters. Look at all the glass lily pipes. If you're trying to minimize maintenance sure, green plastic on your sponge filter will hide some algae for a little bit. But if you want your hardware to disappear into your tank (like show-quality scapers), you want it to be clear and clean.
