    Abandoned & Forgotten Places
Documenting abandoned mines like never before!
Let's take abandoned mine exploring to the next level!
With your support you can help make this the best abandoned mine exploring channel on TH-cam!
Shot entirely in 4K! ...so, turn up those video settings!
On this channel we go deep... REALLY DEEP into abandoned mines and tunnels all throughout the western United States. We researched some of the harder to find mines and hiked or 4x4 back into them to explore and reveal their hidden secrets. Many of these remote locations are filled with cool artifacts, antiques and unique geology that will have you guessing as to why the old prospectors worked so hard to find gold, silver, and other minerals.
A&FP moves just a bit slower as compared to other mine exploring channels. Gly discusses why the miners chose these sites and he points out the geology and minerals that got them excited. Veins of quartz filled with gold and silver made many men lose sleep in the 1800’s and early 1900’s and modern prospecting still does to this very day.
DANGERS? Oh yes, there’s allot of dangers associated with old mines. Un-exploded dynamite, blasting caps, bad air, bats, spiders, and snakes all find their home in abandoned mine shafts and tunnels. Oh, and let’s not forget rotting timbers, flooded passages and collapsing rock!
Gly takes abandoned mine exploring seriously with all the proper safety equipment, training, and experience necessary to do this activity as safe as possible but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a bit of fun along the way. “Gly”, your host and his band of crazy characters “Old Bob” (Gly’s Jeep), “Quackers” (Gly’s duck) and “Bobbie” (Gly’s hula girl) are sure to brighten your day with their comments and silly antics. Heck, they may even give you a chuckle or two.
Just like Saturday morning cartoons before the internet was invented, Abandoned and Forgotten Places uploads each Saturday at 7:00AM PST. (that’s 10:00AM for you eastern folks) so don’t forget to click that subscribe button and bell icon to receive notifications of new episodes!
Please LIKE, SHARE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT! All these things help grow our channel and your financial support helps us find new locations and helps put fuel into “Old Bobs” tank. Old Bob, thanks you!
Ok, now for the ugly stuff...
    WARNING

I say that the miners hollowed out the mountains and shoved the forests underground. In some parts of New Mexico, the mountains were nearly bare in living memory. The forests have largely grown back, and 90% of underground ground control is now done with rock bolts, bacon strips, and hog wire. We do still use timber for landings, chutes, and some ladders.

That timbering was just amazing! It may not be the oldest mine you've explored but just think about the explorers in the next century who are going to see all that equipment and get that feeling we do when we find a single jack bit. And as far as im concerned, you do a fantastic job of showing us each mine in as much detail as possible. People don't realize how strenuous it is just to explore a mine with the essentials. Add fifty pounds of camera gear to that. Its not as easy as you make it look. And another example of the hazzards involved in exploration was shown in collapse area. Just a bump could be the end of your exploring on a very permanent basis. And after hours of hauling equipment up and down ladders ropes and keeping your footing. Its very easy to accidentally slip right when you don't want to. What im trying to say is, Gly's got enough pressure just trying to capture every detail in each mine. And nobody can expect a person to climb thousands of feet in the most dangerous of conditions every week. Those mines take a toll on the most experienced explorer's. So if Gly does a double mine explore video that doesn't require ropes and the gear necessary for a deep exploration. He's just getting ready physically for the next big explore. And how many mine explorers give their viewers the footage and detail that Gly does? Thats what makes this channel so unique.
Let's give Gly the support he deserves so we can continue to enjoy venturing along with Gly in the next episode. Thanks for doing what most people can't do or wouldn't attempt, but still find fascinating Gly and Laura. Just do mines your way and we will always be here waiting to see what you have to show us.
But above all, safely. People don't mind having others risk their necks for their "viewing pleasure" but wouldn't dare to attempt it themselves.

25:44 Interesting... I believe that heavy duty wood crate used to hold 37mm "cannon" shells. Used in the turret gun of the US M3 Grant tank and also the US "37mm Gun M3" anti-tank gun which was basically a copy of a captured German anti-tank gun.

You took us to the lowest level. Some dead things around, but a nice, clean open adet so far. Wow! thats alot of wood timbering....very solid. At 23:02, what beautiful mineral colors. Thats alot of still intact glass light bulbs, unusual. Those miners sure put in alot of sweat & strength getting all those timbers in place. Sure looks solid. Boy, mining was a hard job and this was in the 50's!! As many ladders that you have climbed in four yrs., and always with one hand on rungs and one hand carrying your kimbel camera. You are something!! GO GET UM! and thanks for all that you have shared with us.

Underground carpentry like that is largely a lost art in the US. You're getting me excited - our conventional rail mine (currently flooded to just below the 50 level) may be pumped out and resume operation later this year. Nearly all of its infrastructure is timber, it will be great to see it again! In the meantime, we're pushing to get our rubber-tire decline mine into production.

Where does the lumber come from? Doesn’t look like there are many trees around the areas?

“Gly”: Allot of ponderosa pine 🌲 grows in the mountains of central Arizona, especially around Prescott.

I really love that you don't publicize the location of every one of these to help preserve them. Although I love seeing how the hills look so I can see what the miners saw that lead them there, I would rather them not end up trashed by people with no respect for the history and the people who dug these mines.
Everyone LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and HIT THE BELL, but don't forget to SHARE so new eyes see this to help Gly out.

Gly and Laura, great episode! Gly one question, I would guess it's the case, but when these mines were up and running, was it extremely loud working in them?

    • @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces
      @AbandonedandForgottenPlaces  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

“Gly”: Yes, the drills were very noisy, especially if there’s more than one working in the same level. Plus you have the sound of the mucker, the slusher and the ore bucket going up and down the shaft.

Forgot to mention! I was surprised by all the DYNOMITE in that cart!! Be very careful!, I see no virtue in the first hand accout in the instant development of an open pit mine... FROM THE BOTTOM! 😆😂😁

I can't follow how far the sceen at 34 minutes is from the entrance.
Do I see properly there are some bugs flying in the light?
What bugs are those? How can they live so isolated down there? 3:00

Hey you. I’m ganna challenge you to explore bells cavern. You might have to lose 100 pounds though, because I had to drag my backpack with my foot and a leash through some of the holes that opens up into a huge open area, and just followed by over 26 other holes that lead you into the interns of a cavern inside of the mountain. Here in Colorado this is a normal open cave. it used to be a rock mine look into it you might be interested. I have actually camped inside this cavern overnight. You and Laura might really like it.

That was a great adventure. If you could get all that lumber out of that mine you would be rich today. Those doors look like they were built last week and the hinges were still shining. It's great to watch Laura helping you explore.

Back at it again, Glad to see both of you. By the looks, this is going to be a good journey. Where you are on your knees crawling, that is one rotten timber. Those were some hard working miners, putting all that timber in.

A brown chair actually. I retired my Olive Green Naugahyde and dark walnut stained furniture years ago. As if you needed us to prod you on. I think you would go down there to spite us. ; ) As they say across the pond, Keep Calm and Carry On!
