Nasty Hail Core In Eastern Colorado/Western Kansas

  • My coworker and I punched through a mean hail core east of Burlington, Colorado on September 15th, 2016. Hail up to 2.75" was reported on this storm along the I-70 corridor from eastern Colorado into western Kansas. When we emerged from the eastern flank of the storm and I looked behind us, my jaw dropped at the sheer size of the storm.

    I would be “white knuckling” that wheel the whole time! Amazing look at the other side of the storm though!

      Definitely white-knuckle driving conditions! It was worth it for that view for sure!

    Nasty is a nice way of putting it. Holy smokes!! Visibility looked like it must have been maybe 30 feet and then those boulders of ice being tossed at you from the sky?!?! You must have nerves of steel.

      Haha well, I was certainly nervous at the end there, those massive stones are intimidating when they're being launched at your windshield sideways!
