    Can I get a thumbs up for my potato head thumbnail? LORD HAVE MERCY!
    Like I stated in the video: Mike "hurt" himself the first day which landed us at the medical center. He was advised to not go underwater anymore during the trip which did hinder us in activities (diving & snorkelling which is basically what you go to the Maldives for). We enjoyed our trip nonetheless but we did decide that we might go back in the future during manta ray and whale shark season to snorkel/dive (it is on a small list of places where you can see them freely).
    Sorry that I could not include more yall. I really enjoyed my time without my phone in hand!
    We stayed at The Royal Island Resort on the Baa Atoll and our beach villa number was 219. It was an awesome location on the island. We walked around the whole island multiple times and we actually preferred being further away from the "main" area. We had to walk about 1km to breakfast/lunch/dinner every day which totalled about 5-6km a day to walk for food. A lot of the resorts in the Maldives are like this so if you are not that "active" or not able to walk it might be a little difficult for you.
    Everyone that worked at the resort was amazing, kind, helpful, and made the experience even better. We had a hard time trying to figure out what was an acceptable tip amount but we tried to tip people as best as we could.
    We paid 1600€ per person for everything but right now the Maldives is slowly moving towards "wet season" which means you can find AMAZING deals for a trip if you don't mind rain/storms. I found a trip for the middle of May for 1000€ per person for 8/9 days with flights from Munich & Berlin.
    Our flight was: Etihad from Munich to Abu Dhabi to Male (15/16 hours in total I believe)

    The hotel/resort booking page (Royal Island): bit.ly/3vqC8ug

    We had no rain during our stay (except one night at around 12am)!

    that was a Kayak (although usually those are closed overhead and there is only a hole for your torso) but in an avarage canoe or in a Candian canoe you are kneeing as a consequence of not having a double paddle but a single bladed paddle because the boat is a bit more broad and therefore way more stable in the water...while in a Kayak you simply have to sit with the feet in front in order to stabilise the slim boat in the water.

    Hi Haley. We will be in this resort for a week in May. It will be great if u can share some useful tips or Do's and don'ts as per your experience. This will be helpful for our trip. thanks in advance ☺️

    • @HayleyAlexis
      @HayleyAlexis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh enjoy your trip! I would recommend bringing USD for tips. We brought Euros which was also ok but USD is "easier" and you have bills for $1 which is helpful.
      Bring a lot of sunscreen (we brought 2 big bottles and still had to purchase a small bottle after 7-8 days). Bring short sleeve clothing. I wouldn't even bring long sleeves (maybe one jacket or sweater for the plane ride) but I brought nice long sleeve blouses that I did not wear because it was too hot.
      Bring snorkelling gear if you can (and water shoes). You can rent it from the hotel but it is nice to have your own equipment and you won't have to walk back and forth to get it.
      Mosquito spray- they did not like me and I did not have a single bite but they attacked Mike.
      Medicine for everything- eyedrops, eardrops, pain medicine, diarrhoea, etc etc
      Fill out the proper immigration paperwork and print out the QR codes needed from Malediven immigration. I had them on my phone/computer but it was just nice to have the paper.
      I am probably forgetting something... but have so much fun!!

      I hope you have so much fun!!! It was seriously one of my FAVORITE vacations ever!
      I am just going to type an unorganized list out for you:
      Bring water shoes! I personally brought jeans and it was not necessary. Bring more sunscreen than you think. We used 3 big bottles during our stay (I am a big stickler for lathering myself in sunscreen every 1-2 hours). Bring a mini first aid kit with things like ear drops (for water in the ears), eye drops, band-aids, mosquito spray, and whatever else is "normal" for your first aid needs. I purchased goggles and snorkel gear for the trip and it was well worth the money.

      Wir wurden auch plannen ein bisschen mehr Geld auszugeben (es ist schon teuer).

  • @lindakuhl6649
    @lindakuhl6649 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    We booked a vacation on this resort too. Have you any Tipps or advices (Things we have to do, things we don't because of the price - benefit calculation)? What does the shark feed trip cost?

    • @HayleyAlexis
      @HayleyAlexis  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe the shark feed trip was 30$ per person and it was well worth every penny... Especially if you are lucky like us and you are alone (Mike and I had nobody with us) they let us have a lot of "free" time with the sharks and let us stay a little longer which was wonderful.
      I would recommend staying on the end of the island opposite to the pool. We stayed in suite 219 and I think maybe 205 - 223 would probably be the best options (but this is my opinion). We just thought the water was the nicest, the beach area was the nicest, and you were far enough away from the "main area" where you wouldnt come into contact with too many people. We love being alone and our area was the "least populated".
      If you are not able to walk for some reason (disability, age, sickness, etc) I would not recommend the numbers I listed above because it took awhile to get to the restaurant for meals. I think our bare minimum steps of walking from our room to the restaurant were 6000+ a day and we averaged around 12000 a day with walking around the island and swimming.
      Mike and I planned on spending at least 500-700$ per person extra on activities- which I personally think is high but we were in a location that we might not ever visit again and we thought to ourselves we could spend a little more than usual on things we can't do in Germany/USA (we were going to pay around 200$ for the dolphin/turtle trip and a couple hundred on the Manta Ray/Shark Whale trip). Unfortunately Mike got water in his ear the first day and was not able to swim or snorkel the rest of the trip so we were stuck with only doing the "bare minimum" - shark feeding and going on the kayaks. For activities we spent $50 total (shark feeding and we rented some equipment) and for alcohol we spent $150 on particular drinks.
      We were a little upset about the transfer process from MALE airport to the Island because we were stuck at the airport for 6 hours (bring a book and wear layers because it is HOT) before we could actually get on the transfer plane BUT once we got on the transfer plane it went very smoothly and we got to the hotel with transfer plane ride, bus ride, and boat ride in less than 1 hour (which is very good and the time zooms by).
      I hope this helps a little and enjoy!! You will have a lot of fun. It is the perfect place to relax, enjoy the sun, enjoy beautiful wildlife, and take in the wonderful landscape.

    Hello from France, great video on a beautiful place!!!!

    Thanks again for your answers (and sorry for my english).

    • @HayleyAlexis
      @HayleyAlexis  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The boat from airport was probably the biggest issue and something I wish they wiere a little more transparent about. I believe we arrived to the airport at about 8am and they did not pick us up until about 3-4pm. It was BURNING hot (no air condition), the food choices were limited, and there was no one available at the transfer area for Royal Island to tell us any information. We were lucky because they allowed us to sit in the "lounge" (it wasn't really a lounge) which did have AC and then we left once it got closer to our departure time.
      The wifi was available all over the island. It connected perfectly without issue in the room and also on the sand area between the room and water (it did not work when you got really far away from room). I had no big complaints about the wifi actually and thought it was adequate enough for what it needed to be: upload stories to instagram, connect with my family, and write emails.

    • @HayleyAlexis
      @HayleyAlexis  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't remember how long the boat ride was but I would say less than 30 minutes (maybe 15-20 max). I am pretty sure you can buy a motion sickness pill beforehand and take it before getting on the boat which will help tremendously.
      Our boat was full of people as well so if you are a little iffy about being close to people- you might ask whoever is with you to sit next to you and you sit next to the water side?

      We just walked around the airport (we had a lot of time to spare so walked towards a bridge but that was it) and it felt pretty safe and actually didn't feel "too crowded" but we weren't in the main city center so I am assuming it is worse!

    Tja, jetzt wissen wir, warum Hayley mit Mike zusammen ist. Der Typ ist so reich, dass er sich Urlaub auf den Malediven leisten kann...

      ist da Neid?
      Das er allerdings wohl einen gut bezahlten Job haben könnte, viel mir schon in früheren Videos auf. Anfang 30 und einen M-BMW. Gut, ich war zu der Zeit auch schon durchaus besser verdienend als der Durchschnitt, nur halt nicht bei BMW.
      Allerdings, Beide sollten sich jetzt in dem Alter um 30 auch in Deutschland, falls Hayley nun immer in Deutschland bleiben will und auch den Rest des Lebens mit Mike, für letzteres gibt es auch keine Garantie, von Trennung über Krankheit, Unfall bis frühem Tod ist alles möglich um die finanzielle Absicherung Gedanken machen und diese planen.
      Ich weiß wovon ich schreibe, mein jüngerer Bruder verunglückte Wenigen Wochen nach Schulstart im Alter von 6 Jahren und alle Chancen ein eigenes gesundes und auch beruflich erfolgreiches Leben aufzubauen waren ihm genommen, er starb auch in Folge der Vorschäden mit 61 . Seine Geschwister darunter ich (werde bald 70) hatten mehr Glück. Kann mich heute mit Rente, Firmenpension und einem eigenen Sparplan als ausreichend versorgt ansehen, aber auch nur mit all diesem.
      Unbedingt, gerade wenn man gut Verdient, sich mit dem deutschen Rentensystem vertraut machen und auch für Dich Hayley, teiltest mit, Du machst „Nichts“, darüber nachdenken, was passiert wenn.
      Und nun, mehr als doppelt so alt, wir ihr Beide, jetzt schon 4 Jahre Rentner, die nächsten 35 Jahre erscheinen lang und weit weg. Rückblickend es geht viel schneller.

      @@psrfpsrf Neid wäre durchaus gerechtfertigt. Aber da ist nur Humor...

    Sad, that that the environment and climate change are no consideration for you. Lots of flying in aeroplanes is the worst contributor toclimate change and thus rising ocean levels which will make the maledives disappear. Keeping sharks in basins furthermore is cruel...
