    Kathleen,
    I am starting out and the one thing I cannot find ANYWHERE is how often we need to order florals from our distributors? How long will my stock supply last? How long will my florals last till I need to purchase more?
    You are such a help!!

      I LOVE these questions - I'll definitely do a video on this cause there are a few different variables to consider but, as a quick summary, here are a few thoughts:
      1. How often you buy flowers will depend on (a) the kind of flowers you use in your designs, (b) how much space you want to use for storing inventory/flowers and (b) how much stock you go through during any given trading period
      2. Your stock management depends entirely on how much inventory you buy and how many orders / how busy you are. It's kinda like if you bought a box of tomatoes and made a salad a day, it'd last longer than if you made 15 salads in two days.
      3. How long your stock will last depends on a few different factors but mostly on the kinds of flowers you buy and the quality of them. Some flowers have a much longer shelf life than others. For me, I learned the most by trial and error and taking heaps and heaps of notes.
      I know that's A LOT of information, but hopefully, it's helpful, to begin with. The world of inventory management is SO variable, which is probably why it's hard to find info on. 🤩

    I am having so much trouble with this because if i am getting roses for $40 wholesale for 25 stems and one of my best sellers is a 50 wrapped rose bouquet, I times it by three its like $240 and thats just the roses. I feel like no one will buy!

    Thank you so much for sharing the pricing tips. It is very helpful :)!
    I have a question - Understood that we will need to do the math from the wholesale prices. However, when we need to purchase wholesale flower stocks, it will be hard for us to only purchase one single stem or a few stems from them. Therefore the budget might not be $26.67, it could be more than that - And let's say we make $100 bouquets and only use a few of the flowers and foliage. We will have so many flowers left. How can we manage this if we don't have a physical store, and we might not be able to get another $100 order in few days?

      I LOVE this question and I'm so glad you've found the pricing tips helpful. When it comes to the wholesale buying, you're right. It's a balancing act between what to buy and how to grow your profits.
      A couple of things I've learned along the way is (a) buy wholesale flowers that have a longer shelf life so that you can bridge the gap more easily between orders (b) don't hesitate to supplement fresh flowers with dried / preserved ingredients that have a way longer shelf life and take some of the pressure off the need for the 2-3 day turnover and (c) don't hesitate to build a network of local growers. Sometimes their bunch counts are much smaller than the big wholesalers. 🥰

    how would you price out a corsage or a boutonnière - how would you charge for the tape, wire, and the ribbon you used in it?

      The best solution I've found is to take a bit of a guess about how much of each item you use (as a percentage of the whole) and assign a wholesale cost to it. So, if you have to buy wire in a pack of xx pieces and you only use a small portion, just multiply that portion by how much you paid. Do that for each hard good item and do it for a corsage and a boutonniere etc. Then you know when you're doing your pricing that you have to also include that amount in your price.
      It is a slightly tedious job but it is worth doing. And you only have to do it once and then have that to refer back to for forever 🎉

    But what about competition? My area there is someone who is selling 30$ center pieces and I don’t think for me I can price them less or the same… I feel like I need to charge more

      There will always be someone offering something for cheap. For me, the question comes down to if that's the kind of business you want to run. I often think of people who run restaurants. There will always be a McDonald's that can cater to the low-cost customer. You can then come in and be the place to go for those who value quality and expertise. 🙂

      Great question! You can do either. If you use the wholesale prices without VAT, you'll then add it on at the end. If you do the math with VAT, then you don't have to add it on later. 🥳

      Hi Natalia, are you referring to the Wholesale x 3 +20% equation?
      If so... this just means that whatever your wholesale price is you would multiply that by 3. 🥰

      If your market can handle x 8 markup, GO FOR IT!! 🥰 In terms of the x3 formula, it's there to help cover the operational costs. Exactly as you said, gas, electricity, water, insurance, internet, rent etc.

      That’s industry standard, but you can set your markup to 4.5x, 5x, or even 10x if your market agrees to purchase.

      Yep!!! One of my Flower Boss Academy members said it so well when she told me “I gotta stop thinking like a farmer and I gotta start thinking like a florist”….😀. She’s been a flower farmer for 15 years and I feel like that shift in thinking IS where the magic happens as a business owner. 💖

    I hate to be a grump, but that reverse engineering isn’t quite right. It gets you relatively close, but it’s off by enough that you could afford to include extra product. Starting off with $26.67 gets you to $96.01 with the equation, not $100. I don’t think this is a big deal for this sort of smaller order, but it would make a bigger difference for large projects. Of course, it only makes you more profitable, but some of us would rather work with more product when possible.
