We live in a small apt and use the lomi. I use the shortest eco setting and mix the compost into a bag of potting soil so it becomes more soil like over time without requiring the time/energy/filters necessary for the full compost setting. Then we use that soil either on our potted plants or on our Bark Potty natural pee pad the dog uses to help keep it fresh.
SUCH a good video!! I love how in depth you go. I have very similar feelings about Lomi, we are {finally} using a compost tumbler in the spring, summer and fall, and then using just the lomi during the winter bc snow lol Hoping one day we'll have a curbside compost program!
Thank you! We can all keep hoping for curbside compost, maybe one day! I just can't understand how even governments don't want to implement it...free fertilzier??? That should be incentive enough!
I got the Lomi when they were doing the presale for the first time. So I think I only paid $320 since technically it was like still a campaign thing. I really didn’t like it. It increased my electricity bill by quite a bit which didn’t sit well with my housemates. On top of that, like you said, you can’t put it in the soil medium in houseplant pots. It causes fungal growth and can easily invite pathogens into your plant. I ended up selling it on FB marketplace for half the price I bought it. I really wish it could’ve worked out for my situation because I was so excited to not create so much food waste :/
Good to see how this composter has performed, and your opinion of its usefulness. The point that stands out is that it's an appliance that had used energy to make it, and now to run it. One of your recent videos, that I found useful, talked about using appliances unnecessarily, totally agree with that. I've seen videos where people use appliances to stir food that could easily be stirred by hand. I wondered how much energy is being used by these little appliances, probably a lot. Great topics as always.
I have a compost pile in my garden and it is so easy I am not tempted by any gasdgets related to this. But I know some people who would benefit from lomi
Hmm, too expensive for me in a 3rd floor apt/condo. I’ll be sticking to my recycled 4 gallon square cat litter bucket I found. I’m using it with coffee grounds, dried egg shells crushed, vegetable leftovers & waste (I cut up into chunks if like a dead whole cucumber that got away), and shredded junk mail. So far this has been working to make new soil for pots & planters. Still figuring out the food waste bucket thing the garbage people gave us. They want us to purchase some sort of plastic compostable bag to dump our waste, which seems counter productive. Humph.
i lived in a trailer for a bit as well and we had a tiny plot of land that each trailer was parked on. if u have something similar, maybe u could just dig a hole and bury the compost that the lomi makes instead of sending it to landfill!
Oh definitely not! Because 1. you usually cannot disturb the plot of campground land you're parked on and 2. it might attract animals like coyotes, bears, etc to campsites which is a big no!
Perhaps! If you have a yard, sure. But please don't go throwing it into the woods! It could make widlife sick, cause an invasive species outbreak if any seeds remain, and attract pests
Animals will eat it since it's not compost, it's just dehydrated food. Please watch my full "why food waste is litter" video to learn why we should not leave food waste in parks, etc!
Fodowaste in a landfill will automatically become compost over time. The Lomi's dumped in to the landfill however won't seeing that it's made of plastic.
no it will not! plastic bags inhibit food break down in landfills and it turns to potent methane. Check out this video: th-cam.com/video/2MezWJqRoVg/w-d-xo.html
I just cover with a towel since I need that light when starting the cycle I don't want to permanently cover it or damage it (no apologies necessary!!!!)
No plants. I also literally said it's better than nothing especially for my situation. I'm not sure you even watched the video before making this comment haha
You're probably aware of this by now, but Lomi says the only instance in which their device is carbon positive is when you use the Lomi and then throw it in the trash! you could dump the Lomi you collect in the woods or random patches of dirt that you find :) th-cam.com/video/q93WMpOW80g/w-d-xo.html

That's great to hear it works for you too!

it's definitely not perfect which is a shame, but nothing is perfect! I feel you!

Yes definitely good points to consider!
I have a compost pile in my garden and it is so easy I am not tempted by any gasdgets related to this. But I know some people who would benefit from lomi
Yes it's definitey not for everyone!
I’m so excited to watch this!! I’ve been curious and skeptical. tuning in right now! ❤
yay hope you enjoyed!
You can just put a piece of masking tape over the light! That's what i do with any cords/appliances in my bedroom
yup we've since started covering it with a towel! I just wanted to cover every pro and con I could think of :)
The bio plastics thing is cool!
I do really like that feature!
Omg $500! Wow, I didn’t realize it’d be that high.
Too high for me, plus $50 for filter? Not happening
yeah it's steep which is why I always share sales on IG! They frequently do 40% off !
yeah a little ridiculous honestly @@karinhart489

whatever works for you! I love that you found something for your circumstances
Thank u for this video .. have not watch yet but wanted to buy this since it came out
omg thank you! I hope you enjoy it :)
I get the same consistency when I've tried pasta.
oh wow good to know!

If the “compost” is already broken down and won’t do harm, then could you also just throw it out outside instead of the trash?
Perhaps! If you have a yard, sure. But please don't go throwing it into the woods! It could make widlife sick, cause an invasive species outbreak if any seeds remain, and attract pests
I’m guessing you can’t put bones in it so you still need to put those types of things in the green bin.
if you have a green bin do not even bother with the Lomi! The Lomi is for people who don't have access to compost
❤
I appreciate all your comments :)
So, why can't you put the compost from the lomi in a park instead of the trash? Animals won't eat compost will they
Animals will eat it since it's not compost, it's just dehydrated food. Please watch my full "why food waste is litter" video to learn why we should not leave food waste in parks, etc!

As for the light, put a piece of electrical tape on it.
perfect!
Could you put a piece of duct tape over the light? Not the cutest but it’ll block most light!
Also sorry for so many comments, just typing as I watch
I just cover with a towel since I need that light when starting the cycle I don't want to permanently cover it or damage it (no apologies necessary!!!!)
Girl, you don’t like the Lomi. It’s just better than nothing. 😂 Why not throw it outside in the grass? Or do you have houseplants?
No plants. I also literally said it's better than nothing especially for my situation. I'm not sure you even watched the video before making this comment haha

it's actually illegal to dump on public or private lands!
