Kaps took a standard effect here and made it his own....by adding presentation and much cleaner, positive, direct handling. That's why he was the greatest of all time.
The beauty of this performance is that the original marketed version used the Hamman Count but as Fred is performing it here for Bro John Hamman, he has put his own version of a false display into the trick instead. Fred Kaps.....the greatest magician that has ever walked this planet.
Fred Kaps is a mastermind of magic. iF Houdini is the father of modern magic but Fred Kaps is his husband. Seriously though, He took magic and made an art form. No matter what he did you would watch him and time would stop. Thank you. Sir Andum
For now this video suddenly stopped working. I will look into it. Other videos in my account of fred kaps are still working. So you might want to check them out.
I don't know about 'Houdini' being the Father of magic; by all accounts (of Dai Vernon and others) his magic was pretty woeful and he was an absolute pig of a character! I assume you mean Robert Houdin? By the way, this effect shown was the brainchild of the great UK Master Peter Kane - also the originator of the Wild Card effect (although Frank Garcia in the US tried to steal his tunder by saying it was his 3 years after it appeared firstly by Kane in Jean Hugard's Magic Monthly in 1964).
I feel bad for you guys who have only seen the pitiful "magic" of David Blaine or Chris Angel. Watch the videos and see how this elderly man blows you away with no camera tricks or stooges. Simple tricks are miracles in Kaps' hands.

Flawless handling by the Dutch master. Kaps transforms these effects into miracles.

This trick remember me to Pepe Carroll and the incauto tramposo
Looking at "Fred" here, this must have been close to the end. What a loss.
