What makes Rammstein so typical German is not because they sing in German. It''s German enginering. Rammstein is a well performing hard working machine, with many small simple parts working in perfect sync.

Spot on. Their attention to detail is precise. The riffs, drums, song parts are structured in a way that every verse and chorus has a new element, even though the overall song progression is basic. No wasted beats or measures. Everything is there for a reason.

The song is about self-mutilation. This becomes clear when Till sings "Ich sehe im Spiegel dein Gesicht" = "I see your face in the mirror".
This is mostly overlooked by the listeners.

Yeah a lot of people misunderstand the meaning of this (and many others) song.

Drummer Christophe Schneider is reliable and relentless! To achieve "the Rammstein sound", he plays a custom DW Jazz Series kit w a variety of symbols...assisted by Flake's synth.
Now that you've heard the song, you need to check it out more live...the performance at Madison Square Garden is quite a show!
When Till bends down and pounds his fist on his leg, it's called "The Hammer". This came early on...Till is a former Olympic-hopeful swimmer; an athlete. B4 a show he'd popped his knee out of the socket and during the set, just kept pounding on it til it popped back...the crowd loved it...he still does it today!
Oh...the band has some fantastic mini-movies for videos...when one is suggested, it's bc we know what you're going to experience.

Till is an amazing lyricist. I've probably learned more German from analyzing Rammstein lyrics than I did from 5 years of taking German classes in school 😅

Rammstein is all about these little details and everything is intentional.
Their audio engineering is one of a kind, live and in studio.

3:21 To lead the cable for the light into his mouth, Till pierced his cheek especially for the video. Unfortunately, the spot got infected and Till had to have it closed.

This was the first appearance of the Mouth Light.
You may have noticed Till had his cheek pierced for the power hook up.
Unfortunately it ended up getting infected so it was removed.

a little sidefact: Till had a surgical cut in his cheek, so the cable and the lamp can got into his mouth, you can see it in the video.

Too many people get lost on the lyrics and miss the genius of the music and Till's voice. You my friend are awesome with your analysis of the music but still give a small comment on the lyrics. Nice work!

Very good technical analysis of a seemingly simple yet deceptively layered song

The live version from Madison Square Garden is much more theatrical. It explains Flake's (Keyboards) sparkly suit also.

I listen to music the same way ,never try to figure out the meaning of the lyrics ,just listen to all the music and listen if the chorus is catchy ,sometimes I enjoy the way the singer sings but in my 23 yrs of listening to Rammstein never translated it from german to englisg other then the few that have been made into english it's unknown to me and shows how all the instrument is f'n great with this band.

If you actually listen close enough. The beat in this song switches from high hat to kick drums. They just switch back and fourth. He is extremely under valued as a drummer.

That was an interesting angle to react to this song. Nice. Please react to "Angst" by Rammstein with lyrics. Even though they don't matter to you so much. 😉. Educatedmarine did a great job on the translation. Excited to hear how you respond to the song. With love from a German geek. 🤘😎

    Hi, fantastic reaction and analysis!
Some might say that you should have done the live version from Madison Square Garden (and yes, you should do this just to see how it sounds live, not mentioning the amazing performance - just to see that again they sound better live!), but actually from the musical point of view studio version is the excel of what band wanted to achieve and, considering that, you have done right choice 😃 Thus - thank you very much for all the details that you focused on, it was a nice experience to hear those tiny things that I didn't care about earlier.
Not paying attention to the lyrics - I won't judge you, since you are absolutely right about being distracted by the subtitles. I personally know some German (have been learning it for few years) and since I started listening to Rammstein I polished my German so that I rarely have to even look at subtitles. And you have to focus on so many things when listening to the song for the first time, that trying to even look at the lyrics (without analysing what it means) would distract you too much.
However, you have to be aware, that in some songs lyrics are extremely important. But here... it's better WITHOUT lyrics, since these are kinda gross (actually, this song was cenzored in Germany and Rammstein had some troubles 😆)
Just to mention: lyrics here first seem to be describing quite a brutal sadistic relationship, but just before the final chorus there is a plot twist, where Till sings "I see your face in the mirror" and it turns out that all the harm he is doing - he's doing to himself.
Now I think you might like to see something a bit different from Rammstein. Actually - TOTALLY different.
There is a special song, which Till calls "the best song they've made". It is "Mein Herz Brennt" (My Heart Burns). They really put a lot of effort into this song, since they even had to redo the music video that they were not satisfied with - but also Till decided to record a piano version, which is a true gem, focused solely on Till's voice.
I would suggest you doing a double reaction in one video - first one with Piano version, then with official video, which dramatically differs from the Piano and features amazing string section 😃 There are lot of versions available, but you definitely have to choose these two:
    1. th-cam.com/video/Qm2lBGvbMjg/w-d-xo.html - Mein Herz Brennt Piano Version with Sven Helbig (Official Video)(English Lyrics)
    2. th-cam.com/video/8NohvVK-Qes/w-d-xo.html - Rammstein - Mein Herz Brennt (Official Video) (English Lyrics)
There are also live versions available, but these are not that spectacular due to the specifics of the song - these simply miss many details. Of course, experiencing live version is something completely different 😁
And one more song that you might like - See the "Radio" official video. It is really interesting (in my humble opinion) from the musical point of view.
Thank you for your work, enjoy and - as always - have a fantastic day! 😎

    Nice reaction. 👍
The live version of "Ich tu dir weh" from Madison Square Garden is a bit more entertaining from a show perspective. Maybe you'll want to look at it for your own fun.
Which additional videos to watch from Rammstein? I have a few suggestions.
Most of my live suggestions you've already viewed. There is one you additionally might want to look at:
Engel (live from Madison Square Garden)
There are a bunch of Rammstein songs that are quite different from those you've already seen/heared. Rammstein has a distinctive sound but nevertheless a huge variety in their songs. And their videos - especially the newer ones - are exceptional.
Amazing official videos from their last album "Zeit" in sequence of the tracks on the album:
(I highly recommend to watch them until the end of the credits.)
    Zeit (Time) slow, dark, melancholic
Zick Zack (Snip Snap) catchy song, sarcastic, funny
Angst (Fear) very Rammstein, scary, credits at the end are helpful to understand the message
Dicke Titten (Big Boobs) heavy (most of the time), catchy, funny, credits are funny too (my view)
Adieu (Goodbye) dark, sometimes heavy, emotional
Last but not least the great (but not nice) video "Deutschland" which has a lot of references to (mostly unpleasent) parts of German history. Video, lyrics, and sound are great (my view) and work very well together.
I wish you to enjoy your Rammstein journey.
--- In case you might - somewhere in the future - be interested in the lyrics ...
How to get the lyrics subtitles in English (and why it is so hard to translate Rammstein's songs):
If you want to see English subtitles, switch on subtitles (even if they are only available in German), go to settings, click on subtitles, if no English subtitles are available, choose automatic translation and then English. The automatic translations are sometimes a bit rough and imprecise but normally sufficient to get the main sense of the lyrics.
In case of Rammstein, precise translations of the lyrics is hard work, because they are playing many times with double meanings of words or slightly modify common German expressions and symbolic language pictures to invert or change their meanings. (That is even used in the very simple lyrics of "Du hast".)

However, a great part of the deal with Ramstein are the lyrics.
Maybe you should have a look on the lyrics before you watch the video.
    However, I liked your reaction.

Ish tu deer vay : ) Love your reactions, not sure why your channel isn't more popular tbh. But eh, horses for courses.
I get your view on lyrics; they do matter to me, but they're rarely my first point of focus (unless we're talking anything Maynard JK and then I know I'm in for such a treat). The song as a whole needs to hook me, then I go from there : )

Did you read the lyrics? You should. The song is gruesome, it is about S&M, it was censored in Germany. You better don’t react to Rammstein without understanding the lyrics. More interesting than a cymbal here and there.
