    Time to compare (and contrast) a Red Dwarf episode to an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation with a similar plot. Engage, Smeghead!

    When ever I see Data with his skull cap off, I can only assume that Dr. Noonian Soong was the kind of person to deck out his PC with all the lights only to shove it under his desk.

    I always liked how Brent Spiner could make Data interesting despite ostensibly being emotionless. A lesser actor would make that kind of character boring.

      Especially in an episode like this, where Data doesn't act all that different, but he feels a little off until the reveal, a little more menacing.

    I know others have already mentioned it, but I also have the book that made this comparison years ago, but I was highly entertained by this video all the same. When I finally did see 'Clues', I really wanted Worf to stomp onto the bridge with his leg in a cast demanding "Ok, which one of you chimpanzees did this?"

    9:28 what worf says is true , usually someone from outside the ship has to be present to beat him up.
    Qu montage of Worf getting thosed around like a rag doll

    • @Wright805
      @Wright805 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a common thing seen in fiction; a character established as a strong fighter is beaten up to show how powerful the bad guy is and establish the stakes are high. It's also common for said character to get beaten A LOT over time. A site called TV Tropes has named it "The Worf Effect." Clearly that montage would be very long.

There's a bit where Tilly leaves a room, only to be seen seconds later running past the door again in the opposite direction from the direction she left in. According to the Official Red Dwarf Guide printed in the late 90s, Another TNG episode that’s been mentioned for comparison is “The Game” in relation to “Better Than Life.” Though in this case it apparently has more in common with the novel than the actual episode itself, but worth a mention.

    the biggest problem i have with clues is the only reason it went wrong is because data claimed they were out for 30 seconds, that was obviously going to be found out at some point, then at the end he did it again, why didn't he just say a day it would have worked much better.

    Legs and jigsaws, the RD crew didn't think things thru but where they at really let themselves down is in trying to work out how they lost the four days. The technology to erase memories is on the ship and seems to be common knowledge among the crew but they don't seem to consider the possibility they did it themselves. Trimmer even talks about a "mind probe" as alien tech but that's just Rimmer, the man who would assume aliens used their toilet paper rather than consider the Cat took it and didn't tell them. x

    I love RD and I love Star Trek! I also love Lister, and that line 0:07 , a very British SOH there. One of my favourite Lister lines.
    "Clues" is a great episode, but an obvious copy, but I don't think there is anything wrong with that, though. There is always going to be some kind of influence.
    I'm being picky, but Picard said to Data, "You are likely to be stripped down to your wires!" WTF? Picard has always advocated for Data, especially in "Measure of a Man" and it seems a bit odd for him to say that. Also, what happens when the Enterprise gets back to Starfleet territory, and reset the ship's chronometer and they're a day or whatever out?
    You say Riker is the anti-Rimmer? I think Riker is more like Ace Rimmer! 😆
    Yes, you did just compare Holly to Data......"Gordon Bennett". 🤣😂
    Worf: "A warrior does not complain about physical discomfort." 😅🤣
    Cat: "Did you look behind the fridge?" 🤣😂
    Great vid! Very funny.

    Ah a fellow dax and worf fan, nice. Now if you tell me that your also keen on Seven/ Chakotay on voyager that would be awesome. Though I find it interesting that if you watch series 6 of voyager seven and Chakotay do spend a lot more time togather and seem to be getting closer together it's just that series 7 kind of forgot to do anything with the set up possibility until like the last five episodes so the had a possible set up but no fallow through.
    Or at least a rushed concusion
    Kind of like game of thrones now that I think about it

    • @Redrally
      @Redrally 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually even Jeri and Robert felt this coupling was out of left field. Robert hated being on Voyager and joked to the scriptwriters that if they had no plan for his character, they might as well start having Chakotay date Seven. To both of their shocks, this appeared in the next/final script!
