I just did mine and installed it. Similar vintage to yours but minus the tray under the central screw. It's fairly straight forward in terms of cleaning it up. Thanks for posting.
Excellent video. Just bought a 53 from Ebay, not nearly in as bad condition as yours, but this has given me enough courage and knowledge to give it the spruce up she most definitely needs. I'll get years of good service after this I think. Many thanks for this.
I presume there are two ways to install these. On my Record vice, I had both faces on the outside of the bench with wooden inserts on each face. I think you clamped yours behind the face of the bench.
Thank you for watching, and thanks for the comment. I've seen a few ways to install these. As the vice is 'deep' I felt as though I could afford to lose a bit of vice depth, and went for the easy option and mounted the rear plate behind the face of the bench. I think this was the right way for me as it gives me a long flat clamping surface running along my workbench.
An extra tip for you if you've never seen or heard of it before that makes the hardest part of fitting one a doddle - once it's time to fit it to the bench just clamp a long board in it, with one end resting on the floor, and the vice supports its own weight! Saves all that awkward manhandling of the heavy lump (with the possibility of dropping it, which has happened to a few chaps).
Apologies for not showing this in full. There is a small section about 9 mins in that shows the spring tensioning process. This was a tricky part to do to get the right tension on the quick release mechanism.
No need for the music.. Most people who watch these type of videos are of a 'certain age' and won't appreciate it. Hope that doesn't sound too critical.
Very well executed restoration. Fantastic. I had to turn the music off just I could finish watching the video. Drove me insane.
Thanks for watching, and for the feedback.
Very nice restoration but like others have said I had to turn the music off. Much prefer the sound of tools working against a background of silence.
Thanks for watching, and for the feedback.
The music is terrible

Great to hear that another one of these vices is getting some use. Many thanks for watching, and for your comment.

I thought this looked familiar. I have one sitting in my garage I’ve had for 40+ years. One day I plan to install it, I guess.
It’s a great bit of kit that I use all the time. Very useful. Thanks for watching
Only 1 word needed = EXCELLENT

@@smalltoolrevival Yeah I don't think it really makes much difference either way and I didn't appreciate that it could be done that way to be honest.
“ Made in England “ ……those were the days !
Thanks for watching. It’s great to still have these tools, and for them to be really useful

Have you instructions? And equipment list please 🙏
Talk. Tell us what you are doing. Explain some aspects about the vice. M
Thanks for watching, and for the feedback.
So helpful thank you. Just brought a record no.55 off eBay to do the same for my sons workshop.
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching

Who paints the inside of the jaws?
Thanks for watching
how much paint did you used ?
Probably far too much. Thanks for watching.
Good job but the music was annoying.
Thanks for watching
You do not show the most difficult part - the replacing of the quick release spring.

Simple ways as vise resotoration?
Thanks for watching.
Restore or repaint??
Thanks for watching. A bit of both maybe :-)
Great video but music spoilt it, had to turn sound off.
Thanks for watching, and for the comment
