Great video! The last time I was up in Vnacouver the new Port Mann bridge across the Fraser had just opened and you could still see the old bridge next to it. That new bridge turned out really good! You should do another video driving up the Sea To Sky highway. It's one of the most amazing drives anywhere on earth in my opinion, and it has some amazing views when headin north towards Squamish.
I always love British Columbia, especially the Vancouver area. I'm in Texas, but I am so jealous of the scenery and urbanism up there. Bing Thom (the legendary Vancouver architect) did an urban plan for my city (Fort Worth), although very little has happened with it so far. Said urban plan was essentially my introduction to Vancouverism, and why I fell in love with it. Still, I've always wondered why Metro Vancouver's freeway network has a gap between the Trans-Canada Highway and BC-99/BC-91 south of Vancouver. While I appreciate the City of Vancouver's virtually-freeway-less, transit-centric philosophy, I could definitely see a freeway of some sort filling this gap to allow traffic from BC-99 and I-5 south of the border to reach the Trans-Canada without having to use surface streets, mostly for the benefit of truck traffic. BC-17/South Fraser Perimeter Road (SFPR) comes close (traffic from I-5/BC-99 connects via BC-91 and the Hwy 91 Connector at Nordel Way), but there's still plenty of signal lights. I know BC isn't the most auto-centric province, especially when compared to Ontario or Alberta, although there are benefits to getting trucks off of surface streets (the SFPR probably suffices).
Yeah, I wish BC-17 was better. It's mainly for trucks, but all the interchanges with other highways aren't completely (US) freeway standard. The TCH (and BC-15) interchange is a parclo, the 91/17 interchange is... complicated and has signals, and the 99/17 interchange doesn't have full movement (going from 17 West to 99 East or vice versa requires a U-turn at the 91/17A interchange nearby). Also there's still an at grade rail crossing (infrequently used and usually only at night, thankfully). I also wish there was better bus service between Surrey and Richmond, south of the Fraser. Usually the most reliable way is to take the Skytrain all the way to Downtown Vancouver and then back down. The 301 bus route exists, but it isn't frequent outside of peak hours, and it terminates at Newton Exchange. I would kill for a bus route between Surrey Central and Richmond-Brighouse using BC-17 and BC-99 (the new tunnel is getting a dedicated bus lane, unlike the Alex Fraser Bridge that the 301 is using) but that would probably require redoing all of BC-17.
It's been quite a long time since we seen a BC video here. My favorite drive there is definitely the Tch 1/Hwy 5 (The Coquihalla highway) between Vancouver & Kamloops. Also, starting this weekend, we will have a strong cold wave, not only in Quebec, but in a major part of the North American continent. In Canada, it's not a too major issue since the temperature commonly goes below -20°C during wintertime. However, it's mostly the south where it's mostly consterning, after what happened in Texas 4 years earlier, I'm not gonna focus too much on that topic otherwise it'll take too long, but it was one of the worst coldwave in Texas's history. In Houston for example, the temperature went up to -11°C (around 12°F), which is the coldest since 1989, over 30 years before. Not only that, this couldwave caused about 200 death, most of them, in Texas. Now back to that current coldwave, the situation will be less complicated , but still a bit risky. The temperature will also reach below the freezing point in Mexico & will be colder than in Alaska, which is also very rare. To anyone living in those aera, strength to y'all 🦾
I hear the traffic gets pretty bad along that stretch due to Vancouver's limited number of expressways. There are a lot of natural barriers and environmental regulations that prohibit road expansion. Not necessarily bad unless you're a daily commuter from Abbotsford etc...
Hi Asphalt! Long time no see! British Columbia is absolutely beautiful every time i see it 😍

My favorite part of the TCH in Metro Vancouver is the local-express lane configuration in the Cape Horn Interchange and Port Mann Bridge.
Vancouver is a beautiful place to visit especially its transit services and skytrain.
Right on! Another BC video! Always like these 👍

What Vancouver needs is more Metro lines: especially that extend further South along the coast, and further east along the Fraser river.

I’d like to film the Coq again since it’s been reconstructed following the atmospheric river. Maybe one day. Thanks for the comment.
@@AsphaltPlanet1 this year maybe?
It’s not impossible, but I’m not sure

Yeah this is a fun drive! Vancouver in general has a serious lack of motorways to drive around.
That's what makes the city so great. 😂
Great drive! have you heard about ongoing wildfires in California?
@@RoadsOfAsiaBen I have. The devastation is very tragic
@ my prayers go to everyone living there 🙏🙏
