- Installing Rough Country's 6" Lift Kit w/ Vertex Remote Reservoir Shocks on my wife's 2017 Ram 1500.
Part 6 of rebuilding a 2017 Ram 1500. In this video of the project Chief Blue Ram 1500 we get the interior all put back together and start to paint and install some awesome heavy duty Rough Country bumpers and other parts!

Right Mike, I have the same on my list for my ignition orange ram 1500, with the same Airlift 5000 and since I run a winch I'm going to upgrade to the Road Armory Stealth Titian 2 up front with Road Armor Stealth rear bumper. RSI smartcap and the same RC power steps.
The RC suspension kit says you have to go with 20s, so I'll go with Methods wrapped in Pro comp 37s A/Ts
Carhartt Custom Fitted Seat Covers in brown, and the ARB locker they just came out with with upgraded gears.

Ordered a 6 inch lift for my 2023 ram classic, i want to do it in my driveway to save myself a $1200 install. Nervous about doing it even though im pretty mechanically inclined.

At 3:08 what is the part you are removing the spring out of? The rounded part the spring seats into at the top?
Thank you for the detailed video. My 2015 Ram is in the shop this week getting Air Delete and a 6" lift with 37 Mickey Thompsons. My mechanic showed me photos of the teardown and I wish I was there to wire brush and spray paint the rear suspension but I'm on the road with work.

Have you made a video about adjusting your coilovers yet ?
I did but it didn’t turn out, some of the footage got accidentally deleted. It’s pretty straight forward though, remove all pressure on the springs by jacking up the vehicle, compress the springs with some coil spring compressors and adjust the adjustment nuts until you get your desired height
@@9NailzGarage thank you for answering my post. One more question, the spring compression was done with the coilovers installed on the vehicle, you did not remove them.
What size are your airbag spacers ? Hoe many inches ??

How does it ride after the install? My throttle response already feels pretty sluggish I'm wondering if it's worth getting a pedal commander after lifting
So now that you and the wife have had a few months to drive that beautiful Ram how do you like the ride quality? I've been looking at the RC Vertex for a while but heard the ride is rough as hell
We really like it, maybe slightly rougher than stock but that may also be from the E rated tires, I could let a little air out if I wanted, I usually run them at 40 psi. Overall I’m very happy with the lift kit, works well with the air bags and towing the camper and drives good daily. After all it is a $2,300 lift kit not $8,000.
@@9NailzGarage were you able to completely and truly level your truck?
I have a 6” RC. Lift too and I have a 1” rake like you mention in the video… I do not have the vertex though, so wondering how can I truly level the truck… I’m not concerned about towing, because I have air bags as well.

Did you have to change UCAs at all? I’ve heard from some people you can’t get the truck aligned with stock UCAs
Any plans on changing the Control Arms?
I’ve been running this way for 6 months now with no issues so I think I’ll keep them. Pulled an 11k travel trailer on a few trips as well, no issues
How did you change your door handle colors?
Did you torque everything or just tighten them and locktite them? Im doing one right now and i havnt torqued anything. Dont know if i have to or not

Not sure of the part numbers, they were the ones that came in the 6” rough country kit. You might be able to call rough country and get a part number.
How did you manage to get the brake lines long enough to fit in the bracket in the front? I cut the mount and it looks way short. They say to unbend the metal lines in the manual and I broke 1 that way...
I was able to straighten my lines to get them to fit without issues, were yours corroded at all?
@@9NailzGarage couldn't tell because they were rusty, may well have been! Truck has been through 4 canadian winters.
Your video was really helpful, bought and installed this exact kit today, I wanted to ask for your help/advise: my front is also sitting lower 1”, did you crack it up 1” higher with the RC coil adjuster tool? Also in my rear, the driver slide is sitting 1” lower then my right side… no idea why, do you thinking it might be because I tightened the control arms more? Or the track bar? Any advice would be appreciated
I did adjust mine after driving it for about a month just to let everything settle. The tool is useless, I ended up using a screwdriver that was perfect size of the round hold to move it. Make sure you take pressure off the coils, I lifted the front and used some cheap spring compressors to help. Good luck!

Soooooo... Do you still like the lift? Have you had to fix anything? Getting ready to pull the trigger on rc 6in w/ vertex coilovers for my 2022ram 1500
Still have it, we’ve put about 35,000 miles on it with no issues. Took a little bit to figure out the perfect adjustment to make it sit level, other than that it’s great. Very nice kit for the money! Don’t forget to check all hardware after a few hundred miles and again after a few thousand miles

I have a 2017 1500 big horn 5.7 4x4 and I'm just looking to get a little extra height in the front and level it out how do these compared to stock suspension is it smoother ride? I don't want a harsh ride I commute highway alot thanks
I think these coil overs are going to raise it a little past level, however they do ride very good for a lift kit, very comparable to stock, probably not better than stock but there’s also the other variables of the wheels and tires that change things. Overall it’s a very good set up that rides really well. Good luck with your truck hope this helps!

Did you paint right over the power coat or did it have to be removed first?
I sanded the powder coat smooth and then painted them, turned out very nice
How much time all together did it take you to complete the lift?
All together minus the filming, airbags and painting the rear axle it probably took about 8 hours

Did you use a angled spacer or straight?
I ended up going with the 4" angle spacer.

How does the vertex ride how is the ride quality
The lift rides very nice, very comparable to stock. The adjustments on the shocks really make a difference as well. I usually leave mine on the softest setting.

Hey how did you get the two front diff bolts off?
Particularly the rear one, on top of diff?

I think a stubby ratcheting wrench
I had the same issue. I used a 1/2” 24” long ratchet with a stubby socket and went through the front bumper and took them out. It took like 30 minutes, biggest pain of the entire lift

I’m doing this exact kit in my garage right now, I’m a little worried that it might not clear when I’m doing and trying to exit lol, did you have any issues pulling out of the garage when you were done? Did you need to air out some air in the tires?
Update, I installed the front end coilovers and it dropped like 2” giving me just enough clearance to clear the garage.. fewww lol
Haha that’s about what I had as well, mine still fits though drive through car washes and parking garages too

I did, I made a video just haven’t had time to post it yet. They are amazing though! The install isn’t bad at all, can easily be done in an afternoon. Been using them for about 8 months now in the salt and snow with no issues. I’ll try to post the video in the next few weeks. Also the exhaust is awesome for the money too. A little drone at highway speeds, but if I regreared the truck it’s be fine. Overall sound is awesome though!

Quick question for you man. I've got this same lift/bumper combo on my ram. There's a pretty big difference between the front height and rear. When you adjusted the front did it end up leveling out? I have the tool being shipped right now. Thanks in advance!
Yes, you’ll need to adjust the front quite a bit, I found the tool to be useless though. I lifted the front of the truck and put the frame on jackstands, then put spring compressors on the coil and then just spun the coil nuts by hand.

Hey, I have these same Coilovers on the front of my 2016 sport. A shop put them on but I noticed the body of the Coilover is threaded. Can you adjust ride height by cranking up and down?
Yes they are adjustable, you’ll need some spring compressors to compress the spring and then lift the front end off the ground

I guess I should’ve explained, we use it to tow a fairly large camper, the airbags are a huge help
On the 3.5" inch vertex coilovers does anyone know the min.-max height adjustment for these? I hear they come set at 3" inches out of the box.
3-4” out of the box sounds about right, after about two weeks they settled even lower than the video. I had to adjust them pretty far to get the truck level again. I’d say the range is pretty close to 4-6”
