„BABYLON BERLIN“ - INGENIOUS SOUNDTRACK ACCOMPANYING THE OUTSTANDING 16-EPISODE TV-SERIES INVITES TO A PANOPTIC EXPERIENCE OF 1920's BERLIN ON 2 CDs.
„BABYLON BERLIN“ is the hitherto costliest German TV-series. But it is already standing firm that the 16-episode series will be a hitting endeavour, with licences bought by most European countries and North America. "BABYLON BERLIN" is the first joint TV-series project by X Filme Creative Pool, Sky, ARD and Beta Film. Tom Tykwer, Henk Handloegten and Achim von Borries are directors and screenplay writers.
Based on an internationally bestselling thriller by novelist Volker Kutscher featuring detective Gereon Rath, „BABYLON BERLIN“ is set in the decadent and glamorous world of 1920's Berlin. Unbound hedonism, drugs and politics, homicide and art, emancipation from sexual stereotyping and extremism - „BABYLON BERLIN“ navel-gazes the mores of 1920's Berlin, perfectly staged.
Simultaneously released to the start of the series on Pay-TV, its soundtrack unites 34 tracks in a 2-CD-Set, which work as an impressive musical accompaniment to the striking pictures of the series.
Watch Babylon Berlin now! All 16 episodes available for streaming - only at Sky.

LYRICS:
Zu Asche, zu Staub
Dem Licht geraubt
Doch noch nicht jetzt
Wunder warten bis zuletzt
Ozean der Zeit
Ewiges Gesetz
Zu Asche, zu Staub
Zu Asche
Doch noch nicht jetzt
Zu Asche, zu Staub
Dem Licht geraubt
Doch noch nicht jetzt
Wunder warten
Doch noch nicht jetzt
Wunder warten bis zuletzt
Es ist doch nur ein Traum
Das bloße Haschen nach dem Wind
Wer weiß es schon genau?
Die Uhr an deiner Wand
Sie ist gefüllt mit Sand
Leg deine Hand in mein'
Und lass uns ewig sein
Du triffst nun deine Wahl
Und wirfst uns zwischen Glück und Qual
Doch kann ich dir verzeihen
Du bist dem Tod so nah
Und doch dein Blick so klar
Erkenne mich, ich bin bereit
Und such mir die Unsterblichkeit
Es ist doch nur ein Traum
Das bloße Haschen nach dem Wind
Wer weiß es schon genau?
Die Uhr an deiner Wand
Sie ist gefüllt mit Sand
Leg deine Hand in mein'
Und lass uns ewig sein
Du triffst nun deine Wahl
Und wirfst uns zwischen Glück und Qual
Doch kann ich dir verzeihen
Du bist dem Tod so nah
Und doch dein Blick so klar
Erkenne mich
Ich bin bereit
Und such mir die Unsterblichkeit

#BabylonBerlin
It was this scene that made me pause and realize I'm watching art and not just some TV show
In season three and four there are further similar art moments.
Exact 🤠
THIS was the moment Babylon Berlin stole my heart (and made me want to learn german)
Come on and try to learn some words in german. I will help you to teach. Greetings from Germany. Love Robert
TXS-Ballistics agree
And the singer is not even German. What a big interesting world!
Absolutely
Unheiloig
A Lithuanian actor playing a Russian countess who is singing in German while dressed in drag. Not a Hollywood production. They don't have the imagination to part from their old formulas. Brava!
Well, being German to its worst or best: You are wrong. It's just the words. Listen ! Kudos :)

Nothing I have seen on screen in the last ten years at least has moved and impressed like Babylon Berlin.
You should watch the Dark series, one of the best series ever, also a German production
The singing alone is a masterpiece of mixed metaphors. A woman dressed as a man. A Russian singing in German with a Berliner accent. Then there is the white women doing the banana dance, made famous in Paris by Josephine Baker. The band with influences from American big band to Klezmer. This one scene encapsulates the artistic boiling stew of east and west that made Berlin the nervous beating heart of a people haunted by the horror of empire and serfdom, plus the worst banking system in German history.
This comentar is amazin.
Just for your information:
She is Lithuanian)
Also a nice comment.
Or you are about her role in the series
@@ilyaignatiev6990 : The actress is Lithuanian, but the character she plays in this series is a Russian spy.
*First time hearing this song:* Ok, this is pretty weird, but I'll listen
*Third time hearing it:* OK, this is starting to grow on me
*Fifth time hearing it:* 🙌UND SUCH' MIR DIE UNSTERBLICHKEIT🙌
Same😂
I see no lie
💯 this
Same happened with me
The same 😅
Love how the melancholy nature of the song and lyrics mix up with the weird costumes and choreography on the stage and the crowd in total bliss. The fast cutting of the violent, pornographic, and nightmarish scenes adds to the feeling of being trapped with them in a decadent, nihilistic, and almost doomed society. They really captured the idea of the "Roaring Twenties" in a single music video.
No kidding. It's the calm before the storm.

Talking about perfection: this is it.
The best I've seen in years.
Everything comes together: the story, the actors, the camera work, the music - as I said, everything.
One of the best series of 2000s.
To ashes, to dust
Robbed from the light
But not right now, not yet
Wonders are waiting
To the very end
Ocean of time
Eternal laws
It's just a dream
It's purely catching

You throw us between joy and despair
But I can forgive you
You are so close to death
But yet, your gaze so clear
Recognize me, I am ready
And look for eternity with me!!!
I couldn't agree more.
This serie is pure magic. I don't know the author of the book but what I know for sure is that he is a James Ellroy fan. Everything in the characters, the stories, the cops, the mob... makes me think of Black Dhalia or other Ellroy masterpiece.
It’s just the way this feature is used to educate people about that time in Berlin. The 1930s as Hitler and Nazis came to power. Very decadent time
@@nightbloomer4739Sadly like today...decadence, huge problems on the other side and decorated with a new media. At that time it was the Volksemöfänger, today it's the social media...'every generation needs it's own desease..'

Eine hochwertige deutsche Produktion ohne Matthias Schweighöfer, Til Schweiger oder Elyas M'Barek. Das ich das noch erleben darf 🥲

I agree. I am delighted and horrified simultaneously. I don’t know how exactly historically accurate it is but this show does a much better job explaining where peoples’ heads were at than any texbook explanation of the Weimar Republic
I think Babylon Berlin is the best series I have ever seen. Applause from Norway 🇳🇴
Thanks to Norway°
and from Italy too....
Compelling series that always kept you guessing. From the UK
.
Another good German series though different time period Deutschland 83. The sequel is out but I haven't seen it. If you like books in the same sort of setting as Babylon Berlin read the late Phillip Kerr's Bernie Gunther series.
Unbelievable - what a song. It hits on the feeling of the exuberant past epoch in Germany, when Berlin was probably the coolest, most artistic, most beautiful, trendsetting and perhaps also the most decadent city in the world. The song has to get a Grammy. And the series is also breathtaking and frightening at the same time. I've never seen anything like this before - and I am 56.
I agree and I was geboren in 1942.
E G F cool so alt englisch könne und Medien nutzen 👍
What about Berlin Alexanderplatz by great master Fasbinder, my generation? But I agree, this is different era and uncomparable.
I would say Babylon Berlin ranks up there with Berlin Alexanderplatz and Heimat, which is very high praise indeed.
Praha!!! Fucking adolf piece of shit!
Would you look at that, Germans can indeed produce blockbuster entertainment that doesn't need to hide from US productions. Please more of that! :)
yeaa if it comes to ww2 stuff...but nothing else.

bro germans were crazy for making this show it's literally the best thing i've ever seen
an exceptional series. So far away from Hollywood, it is a tornado of fresh air.
Better than every Best Song Oscar nominee this year.

Best series of the year. Go ahead, Deutschland, we want more astonishing art like this.
best series at DEUTSCHLAND ever! (not only for a year -instead since 1945!)
Watch Dark and Deutschland 83 and 86. Two amazing series also from Germany.
@Pele Gacinovic , What do you think is art in video and cinema?
@Pele Gacinovic , you fail to understand that 2019 America and the rest of the countries in the Industrialized World are in a period of death and uncertainty just as were the 1930's characters in Babylon Berlin. At that epoch, times were so desperate, chaotic and Thanatos -like that all the Germans were high on something. 1930 Berliners worked like hell & partied like hell, in part, so they could defer their attention from the death & destruction that was headed their way. Severija's mad act leads the death waltz to the invasion of Russia.
The demise of the 85 IQ, American factory worker & the rise of the robot have put people into the same state of mind. Babylon Berlin is art because it catches the Zeitgeist of 2019. America has Donald Trump, our Hitler figure, & it has our own goon squad, the Red Hats who parallel the "Nazi Brown Shirts". Charlottesville was a presage to our own Krystal Nacht.
Furthermore, our "Why Don't We Get Drunk & Screw" and "Bye Bye Miss American Pie" parallel "Zu Asche Zu Staub". Babylon Berlin is art because it is a 1930's like theme which works perfectly in 2019. "Babylon Berlin" is art because it illustrates that history repeats itself endlessly .Like Germany in the 1930's, America in 1919 is headed for an Apocalypse. To quote Don McClain, "It's eight miles high and falling fast." "Bye Bye Miss American Pie".
John Walder, sadly Germany only has one Tom Tykwer.
Babylon Berlin is one of the greatest series! Sensational story! Perfect Cut! Amazing Music! Great work at all involved!
This is far superior to anything that can be produced in UK or USA, the acting, the plots, the music.... Best series I've watch in so many years
I agree, John. T h e b e s t.
Utopia
As an Englishman who adores Germany, This series is certainly as good as it gets, The acting, atmosphere, music, style, would love to see it on the big screen.
_"The Sopranos"_ and _"The Wire"_ are still my all-time favorite TV shows by far.
But yes, _"Babylon Berlin"_ and _"Gomorrah",_ from Italy, are far better than anything that comes out of Hollywood/the US film industry these days.
Both are/were made by "Sky" and public film funds.
Still, America has the best film industry in the world by far. But by the large quantity, the quality is often lacking.
I'm hoping HBO is going to put out another well-made show again. They're the best! They always film their shows were they actually take place. Not inside some Hollywood studios.
It's silly when a show like _"NCIS",_ which is taking place in Washington DC and the surrounding area, is being filmed in f**king California!
This series was simply stunning in its originality.
I had no idea where the story was going and I was just memorized every episode.
Easily the best foreign show I’ve ever seen and may ever see

If you are watching this show on netflix, I suggest switching the language from english to german, and using subtitles.
The english dub is very poor.
This show is a masterpiece
So true. I nearly quit this after 5 mins of the first episode due to the overdub. Then I did the language change you suggest and hey presto, the most gripping series I've ever seen on Netflix. A masterpiece.
I think something is seriously wrong with people watching dubbed movies. Lazy to read, I don't get it?
Yes! I switched from English dub to German with subs for my 2nd time watching season 1&2 much better.

I loved this so much that I watched all 16 episodes in 3 nights and am now trying to get my husband into it.
Brilliant song beautifully performed by Severija and all the dancing in the audience including the stars of the show. I love how they just straight up plopped this 5+ minute song into the show, the entire performance, and the dance routine to the drum solo.
So underrated, I wish this show had more international recognition.
What do you mean? It has been shown in more than 100 countries worldwide, making it one of the most successful German series ever.
@@solokom Well, it deserves way more. Not a very accurate measurement but the show has about 31k ratings on imdb while every average netflix or hbo production gets 100-500k, the biggest shows like got and breaking bad have 2.3mil.

The best television series I have ever seen. It is brilliant, dark evocative and sometimes frightening but draws me back into its web. The most perfect visuals and acting, directing composition. What can I add to this? It is great art. Babylon Berlin is perfection.
One night, I was dying and coughing up blood while watching Babylon Berlin, I liked the show but I was too sick, drifting in and out of consciousness with vision so blurry. Then this song comes on in episode 2, and while I was still coughing up blood, I could see and hear it, this song revived me, I love it and everything and person in it. I wish I could be there someday. Babylon Berlin and this song are some of my favorite things of all time not just because they are amazing, but because of how they made me feel in so desperate a time. Now I also sing this everywhere I go.

I had to watch the entire final credits to get the name of this particular track, played during the ending credits. As an English speaking Canadian, I can honestly say this series is probably the best foreign language series I have ever had the opportunity to watch and enjoy.
The music, the era, Berlin!, the acting, the costumes, and the Weimar Republic. There is so much going on in this series, for which it truly defined the term "binge watching" for me.

The half-naked dancers in the background are an innuendo to Josephine Baker.
She popularized the Charleston dance (the famous flapper dance everyone associates with the roaring 20s) and she used to wear her infamous banana dress. After she fled from segregation in the USA, she became famous in Paris and then also in the Weimar Republic.
Josephine is probably the first black woman to ever become a star after modern mass culture emerged.

That song is going world wide and Babylon Berlin is the Birth again of the great German cinema

German cinema is and always has been bloody brilliant!
This song really does crawl into your brain and take up residence. Always enjoy watching the club performance sequence as the audience sings and dances along. Looking forward to season 3 of BB - unfortunately, it takes a tragic turn: the grand experiment of the Weimar Republic is near over and the Nazis are seizing power. Should be fascinating nonetheless. The Germans really are doing a fantastic job with their long narrative TV series. Along with BB, for those of you who've not seen "Dark" yet - watch it. The song is good, but barely resembles anything from the period. It's clearly meant to sound like Brecht/Weill - but they used chords differently back then. They wouldn't have hung on a pedal point for the whole first verse, then gone to a repeating, slightly varied four-chord vamp for the chorus. It's much more modern pop music, glam/goth variety.
I would agree, but it’s still a good song
From an American who cannot speak German, this series is amazing!!
Learning this song in German just to sing along...
Awesome!
She's singing with a fairly strong Slavic accent. Which, to German speakers I reckon (or at least this German speaker), is part of the charm.

Babylon Berlin is more than good, even great. But Germany, do I, from the gloomy Balkans, have to remind on uncomparable Berlin Alexanderplatz by R.W. Fasbinder, as just a piece of his magnificent opus. That was the root-this is a fruit.
And don't forget “Heimat“ by Edgar Reitz. Epic

Babylon berlin is not on Netflix in my country sadly ;((
An Australian here who can’t speak German, and this song has been stuck in my head for days. Such a great show too!
Song with english Subtitles: th-cam.com/video/dF0Kg06dolw/w-d-xo.html
This song is absolutely amazing.
Thanks for the subs, since I made the original comment, I’ve visited Germany for the first time (only Munich) . Beautiful people and food. And the technological company headquarters we deal with back at home, is surreal.
I've listenned this song fifty times.(^^♪ We call this situation "yamitsuki" in Japanese.
Well then I guess I have the yamitsuki too
We call it "Ohrwurm" in Germany
@@heibk-2019 I call it stupidity.
@@vova47 so edgy
@@heibk-2019 No, "Ohrwurm" is when you hear it in your head against your will, and cannot get rid of it. "Yamitsuki" is when you choose to listen to it over and over, and cannot get enough of it.
This was a masterpiece. The utter decadence of this era. The unimaginable horrors to come.
Hold on tight world. It gets worse before it gets worse.
It took me a little bit to warm up with this show; after watching the first episode I was impressed but not blown away. After completing the second episode though, and listening to this beautiful song (which feels like both late '20s and modern at the same time, maybe a cross between Marlene Dietrich and a bit of Kraftwerk minus the electronics) I think this show is now my most favourite at the moment, and I watch quite a lot of them.
God, this show is so good. To anyone who hasn't watched it yet, you're missing out!
I have loved this series. I have watched in the first 3 seasons 4 times since I discovered it 2 months ago. I discover so much each time.
The music, the costumes, the dancing, the acting, the multiple storyline’s, the ability to immerse in this period of time and really lose yourself. Amazing. I wish more people knew of this series, I am in Australia and there aren’t that many people I know that have watched it.
Die Details machen es zu einem Kunstwerk!!
Same here in Greece. None of my relatives, friends, or colleagues know about this series, which is a pity. It's a masterpiece. I accidentally came across it, and I'm currently watching it. I'm hooked!
I have had Netflix for two years. This and Breaking Bad are the best. This scene is the highlight of Babylon Berlin. The song and the visuals haunt me years later.
i'm from Canada -- i binge watched this show so fast!! i love it!! need another season!
You'll get it. Season 3 has been confirmed.
genau so gehts mir
Ja das stimmt...
This sounds and looks SO fucking cool! And man, this song was an experience - it didn't sound like anything I've ever heard before. Absolutely breathtaking. Sending hugs and kisses from Czech Republic to my talented and beautiful german "neighbours"
Rina I Love the Czech language so beautiful but so hard...❤😭
Ruby Abc haha aww that's so sweet that you think it's beautiful ❤️ I don't dislike it but imo slovak language is even nicer, it's very very similar to czech, but more soft, gentle and delicate :-)
Rina I want to learn those languages but I've heard that they're really hard :/
Ruby Abc hmm i guess that's true, even we czech people have problems with our own language sometimes lol! :D I'd say it's hard and tricky and there's a lot to learn, BUT it is not impossible :-)
Agreed! When I saw this it blew my mind and reminded me quite a bit of Marlene Dietrich and David Bowie. Greetings from Amerika. I don't have Czech ancestry but my family ancestry comes from Northwest Germany in a small town callled Wesselburen. Auf Wiedersehen from the U.S.
This song was one of inspirations to write a theatre play about pre war Breslau. We perform it now seeing people moved. Thank you. When I close my eyes I see this city.
The series is fantastic, and this song is hypnothic. Greetings from Sweden!
Lotte is totally my new favorite heroine. Following her journey and wishing her great things the entire 2 series. Her social life was definitely a busy one.
Yes, it is.
@@TheTrueAdrian No, the second season is the making, but not out yet.
@@WindspriteM Absolutely not. The first and second season were produced and released together. I've seen both. The first season consists only of the first 8 episodes. The rest is season 2.
When Gereon told her his name and she asked, "Gereon? Are you from the Middle Ages?," I was hooked!
Ich genieße diese Serie in Großbritannien bei Sky TV. Brillant Ausgezeichnet! Entschuldigung für mein Google Translate. Ich muss Deutsch lernen!
Simonc48 in german it's "google Übersetzung"
nutzlose info lol
I can help u, I learn German as well)
.. Farewell and all the best to and with GB!
I LOVE THIS SHOW! It is so well done. Twists and turns. Perfectly cast, Set design is off the hook, Costumes glorious, Music is spectacular. Fantastic writing, haunting color palette. 10 out of 10 stars!!!! I'm addicted. I can't wait for the next season to come out.
Filmmusik at it´s best!
Impressive song! Pressing the "Replay"- button since 2 hours...you know the feeling?
Old Wynstone genau.
I enjoed the series so much! What a wonderful cast, script, atmosphere! I have learnt more about Veymar period of Germany
Greetings from Moscow!
Liebe Grüße nach Russland. Oh, was habt ihr leiden müssen.
This is hypnotic. When the high hat and the keys start, I felt this was going to be special. The crowd followed Svetlana as if she had them under her spell. I haven’t progressed past this part of the series, as I’ve been watching this scene relentlessly, almost as if I were just as spellbound. But there is one thing I can’t stop wondering. What if Svetlana could have been played by a young David Bowie?
@Simon McCreath “Babylon Berlin” is stellar! The series cost €40 million to produce and it shows. It is beautifully shot and the choreography is amazing!
Regards,
Bill
Or Annie Lennox
I've found that series recently and the music overwhelmed me :)... it follows me all the time even though I do not understand much German. The series is just great, the viewer may be taken back in time to the inter-war period. Just marvelous. Greetings from Poland!
Liebe Grüße nach Polen.
They always find a way to make the credits song sound new and appropriate for the current episode that just finished.
After Dark, Germany have produced an another marvel.
Brilliant show and soundtrack. So fresh and smart, with a lot of talented actors, good writing and wonderful imagery. A must see film shure
An amazing show. High quality. And yet, I've discovered it just a few days ago! Too bad that it hasn't been promoted properly and widely.
I continue my journey through the Weimar Republic specifically Berlin by reading every author who writes about this period. I am entranced by the drama, the intrigue, the descent into the hell that followed. Being of German ancestry I also feel I need to understand how an entire country could be steered into the depravity of the 40's. This song and the characters are the most evocative presentations I have witnessed in a long time. And help me better understand the German psyche of the period. Stunning.
Could you please recommend me something to read or to watch? I've bought those two famous books Berlin-Alexanderplatz and Goodbye Berlin (haven't read them yet). Those two and the movies based on them are the only ones I know
@@omg9261 Rather than titles I can recommend several authors. Eric Ambler, Rudiger Barth, Howard Blum, David Downing, Dan Fesperman, Ken Follett, Alan Furst. I also recommend you go to Goodreads where you will find other recommendations. There you can also become my "Friend" and peruse my reading list of books I've finished reading. Have fun.

Robbed of the light
But not yet

Ocean of time
Eternal law
To ashes, to dust

It's just a dream
The mere chasing after the wind
Who knows exactly?
The clock on your wall
It's filled with sand
Put your hand in mine
And let's be forever
You make your choice now
And throw ourselves between happiness and agony
But I can forgive you
You are so close to death
And yet your eyes are so clear
Know me, I am ready
And look for immortality for me
It's just a dream
The mere chasing after the wind
Who knows exactly?
The clock on your wall
It's filled with sand
Put your hand in mine
And let's be forever
You make your choice now
And throw ourselves between happiness and agony
But I can forgive you
You are so close to death
And yet your eyes are so clear
Know me
I'm ready
And look for immortality for me
The translation is good. 👍 But more accurate is "... and look for immortality WITH YOU" instead of "for me". ☺️

Well Germany in the 20's was quite liberal and accepting.. until it wasn't. This clip shows exactly how open life was... boobie alert... and more... didn't matter who you wanted to be with..only that you had the passion to try..
If you look at the election results Germany was very polarised Left-Right. Berlin was liberal yes.
